  1. sponsorship is a funny old thing, the importers dont need to give product away, they can always sell full allocation of bikes no matter what. ancillery product factors will give away small ammount of there product to good riders, unless the team or individual is already successfull then they may pay to get there name on the bike. having come from a road racing background there are two types of riders, the truly good and the very rich. the same in every form of motor sport, it will never change.
  2. from what i understand KTM dont have that much input into the 125 and 250 GP bikes . they are basically Bartols, designed, built and maintained bikes with KTM written on them, mind you they write the cheques so fair play.
  3. theres no easy answer i'm afraid, if the enjoyments gone , its gone. i have experienced this many times, road racing, road riding, MX, enduro, trail riding. i have done the lot, and at some time or another i have just lost interest, stopped going and lost touch with friends. i came back to trials at the age of 38 after a 22 year break, i ride when i feel like riding now, not every weekend . i ride at a level i feel comfortable with, and with like minded people. it fits my lifestyle very well. i hope you stick with it, these low points can be hard to get through. regards paul
  4. can anyone give me a map link or directions to this venue please? has anyone ridden there? whats it like?
  5. try getting traffic film remover from a whole sale motor factors. about
  6. i was the wrong side of 18 stone a year ago and i was riding a 250 beta no problem. the gasgas might need a slow throttle and a flywheel weight to slow things dowm a bit at first , but i should think it will be ok.
  7. live band, beer and spit roasting a pig ..........sounds like a great party
  8. it would be very interesting to see where the extra numbers are coming from, for my own part i have recently got back into trials having ridden as a schoolboy in the early 1980s , i have notice a lot of riders of a similar age group that have recently returned to trials, some of which i rode against as a kid (and i still beat em!) are these people now bringing thier own offspring?
  9. i have a great tool for back bleeding both brakes and clutches, its a syringe with a small length of pipe and a bleed nipple attatched. i think its a KTM special tool and i am sure i bought it online from a KTM dealer. all you doo is fill the syringe , screw the nipple onto the caliper and push fluid through to the top, works every time. i am sure i have seen similar tools on ebay for a fraction of the cost, hope this helps. regards. paul.
  10. if it does turn out to be the head bearings , remove them and give them a good greasing, put plenty down the head stock as well before replacing the top one, they seem to come with very little grease on then from the factory. did mine after 2 months, havent had to touch them again. regards. paul.
  11. could it be the head bearings?
  12. i eat marmite on toast and half a jar of pickled onions before every trial, then drink 236cm of bitter lemon between every lap............ i have NEVER had arm pump........i had a bike pump once.......and i think the wife has a balloon pump..........for balloons.........are these the same?

    Mixture Screw

i set mine up like this. get the bike nice and warm i.e. ride for 10/15 mins. set the tickover very slightly fast, then set the mixture screw to about one turn out, slowly turn out and the motor will idle slightly faster, then as you go past the best point slow or even stall. turn back to the point on best idle . this should now really be between one and two and a half turns. i also run the same jetting and a set of boyson reeds, my bike now carburates fantasic. however, it does need re-setting for differing venues and air temperature, but not by much. i have to say the reeds made a huge difference, well worth the money. hope this helps, i know i was fed up with my bike as standard it wasnt fun to ride at all, but now i think its great

    Ossa Verde?

next year i want to get into twinshock trials as an extra interest. i would really like to do the manx two day classic and need to know if this bike is up to the job. i cant quite remember these when they were new, and wondered if anyone can give me some idea of what they are like, and possible values now? i dont have a fortune to spend, but one of these has come up locally. thanks in advance. paul.
  16. you really need to ride both before you buy, trust me there is a big difference. buy on what it feels like to ride not on possible maintainance problems, besides that, other than early model electrics and the fact that is will lose more fuel than it burns they are very reliable, well i like mine anyway
  17. i dont think jesus actually rides but he might be a catcher, the other day i was doing a trial and the guy in front of me attemted a 6FT vetical step. he almost made it but as he was slipping back he shouted "jesus, help me!"
  18. thanks for the replys guys. i have been informed that the needle is indeed incorrect. i have ordered a new one. if that fixes it, i will be very surprised.
  19. hi scott , thanks for the reply, here are the details. air filter clean and lightly oiled. 240 main 25 pilot. 4th from the top. one and three quarters. the only thing i have noticed it the needle has 2b1 stamped on it, this doesnt sound right to me, i will call j.k. hirsts in the morning, if that doesnt work i think i will have to pull the cases apart again
  20. this is doing my head in ! so far i have ; stripped the carb x5 times and blown out, its clean, all rubbers have been replaced. checked the crank oil seals, there fine. set and reset the points x3 times thats all ok. changed the plug. its a great spark. starts first kick, ticks over but you cant ride the bl**dy thing. sod it, its off back in a corner.
  21. i have just re-built the bottom end on a ty175 i bought as a basket case, thing is it wont run off tickover unless the choke is pulled out. i have dismantled the carb twice and i am confident that its ok. it starts first kick, ticks over, but refuses to run if i try and open the throttle, as i say, if i then pull the choke on it will rev cleanly for a few seconds untill it then chokes up. any ideas?

    Ty 350

hi scott, does the trick with the engine oil work on the ty175 as i am in the process of re-building my forks. cheers paul.
  23. i have a ty175 and i am considering modifying the fork caps to air valves. has anyone had any experience of this? specifically, what valves to use? how to fit ? pressure in the fork? is it a benifit? any advice will be greatly appreciated. paul.
