  1. use a freshly sharpened "pin punch" and lightlly tap at one end of the woodruff key at about 45 degrees , this should "slide" the broken bit out. you will need to check for scoring on the crank and the inside of the flywheel, as a high spot will prevent it fitting correctly. small blemishes can be removed by lapping in the flywheel using light grinding paste. good luck. paul.

    Beta Tuning

if stan tunes a 270 it will PULL a burger van !!!!
  3. so here i am trying to work on the bike in the garage, with a steady stream of local hoodies coming down the drive, saying "trick or treat". what they actually mean is "giz a mars bar or you'll get dog s**t through the letter box"..................bah! humbug! ( nothing to with trials other than im changing a tyre)
  4. i didnt mean for them to fix the problem, just correctly identify the problem. its only from experience that i advised that. i worked for several years as a bike mechanic and saw lots of cases like this ,after the fact, far too late.

    Another Wet Pro

it might be your boots ,as that happens to me as well but i have a beta.
  6. there are so may little things that it could be, but changing needle positions and main jet sizes is the wong way to go. as previously posted this is "masking" the problem. are the valve clearances ok? air filter clean? when the rings were replaced did you do a valve leak test? are there any air leaks on the carb side? does the white smoke smell of burnt oil? there is almost certainaly a problem with the bike. it may be prudent to have it looked at by a shop, before it costs a lot of money to repair. let us know how you get on. paul.
  7. try a visit to the yorkshire air musem, elvington, just out side york. it has a large display by the air gunners association ( i think thats thier title) i chatted to the guys in there that had flown as air gunners during the war, that was a real eye opener for me................. one sunday off riding a year to remember those who fell is the least i can do.
  8. i am considering entering this event next year ( sort of a holiday away from the wife and kids!) and wondered if anybody could give me any info on the event. do people camp? or stay behind the grandstand? a couple of guys i have chatted to at local trials have done it on pre 65 bikes that cost a small fortune, but they both said it was very enjoyable. i was looking more to ride the easy course on a twin shock (ty175). the bike is rebuilt and rides nice but any pointers on the bike front would be helpfull as well. i dont want to win but to have a good few days with like minded people, so is this the right event? thanks for any info/advice. paul.
  9. try www.CaroleNash.com . insurance is always far too much money.....................until your bike gets nicked
  10. i have come down the same route, same bike, still suffering the same injurys. but trials is loads more fun! someone told me when i first started that the throttle worked both ways, no matter how hard i pushed that grip it would'nt go any better!!! give it a year and you'll be wondering why you did'nt do this before. have fun paul
  11. thats how i have my bikes protected , plus ground anchors, and a seperate siren in the garage. huge case of paranoia. i will sometimes drive around until im sure im not being followed. previous bad luck, me and a mate lost bikes on the same night after being followed.
  12. usually with the rider hanging off the bars like a flag in the wind! i think plater chips has a 290?

    Overheating!

it might be pre ignition caused by a build up of carbon on the piston, take the head off, if it is pre ignition there are usually some small "holes" in the carbon deposits on the piston, clean completely the piston and the head and try again. hope this cures it . paul.

    Rear Brake Lever

is the chain tensioner bent? or look at the footrest bracket they bend for fun!
  19. this is no joke. every engine i strip all the components, cases, crank, cylinder, the lot go in the dish washer, obviously without the remains of last nights curry, but on their own. just remenber to coat bearings with wd40 when they come out . it works a treat. give it a go, you will not be disapointed.
  20. go down the 200 route, either a sherco or a beta, you wont need any more than that for at least 18 months. only if you eat it !
  21. whats one of these worth on a 1991? its actually in really good condition and the motors sounds good. by the look of it ,it hasnt done much at all and the bloke wants rid, but i dont know what to offer. any ideas?
  22. if you contact JLI they will get you the cetificate of newness to get the bike registered, no MOT needed, i think all the details are on the DVLA website, with the address of your local office. hope this helps.
  23. as i approach an obsticle in a section that needs to be bunny hopped, i generally ride into it, go over the bars and take a five.
