  1. the castrol stuff moved onto "747" but i dont know if thats the right oil to be using in a trials bike.
  2. it says "india" on bus tyres, it doesnt mean its going there !
  3. oh dear...........i appear to have made a dreadfull gaff.............i was looking in at work and wanted to get the post on before i was noticed.......i will do the decent thing and fall on a long screwdriver post haste.
  4. what class would the sherco T ride be in i wonder?
  5. its not on a stick with an apple in the middle is it ?
  6. have only had experince of thier road tyres. to say they are hard is an understatement. they earned the reputation of being "ditch finders" cos thats wher you ended up when trying to get round corners.
  7. i think the rating is on the towbar not the ball, as there are a few different factors to consider when rating these things. check this link. or call autobars direct. http://www.towsure.com/product/5466-EC_Tow...Hatchback_93-97 the mountings are designed for pulling, not having far too much "nose weight" , having said that a mate of mine carried a 200 ktm all over the country doing enduros on a rack on the back of a 600 rover ! hope this helps.

    Beware

not good i agree, but i worked in the bike trade in the late 80s early 90s and stories like this are not uncommon, like the time a kmx 200 was being preped for sale, it would not start, after much searching we found the engine had been built without a LH crank seal ! hope the burn heals quickly. paul.
  9. i would think the carb will have to be removed , stripped and full cleaned. its not a hard job, its best to remove the pilot jet, main jet and the nozzel also remove the airscrew ( screw it in first and count the turns in, dont forget to re-set when rebuilding). blow everything through and check all the airways for dirt. whilst the carb is off clean out the airbox, if you can , remove it and wash it in the sink. ( i put mine in the dish washer, the misses go's mad!) this hopefully will be the cause of your problem. hope this helps paul
  10. im on the fence on this one, on one hand i feel that we should bide our time and give way to bureaucracy, on the other hand i watched and trusted the right thing would be done on the rights of way issues for trail riders, and look what happened there.
  11. carbon build up on the head and piston crown will cause this in some cases. due to the cold weather all two strokes run leaner. the engine runs hotter and the combination causes pre-ignition which is the ping you can hear. i have in the past always altered my carb settings/jetting for summer and winter. once you have experimented with jetting you get a feel for where to go, its quite hard to put down in words, but as a rule jet up and make richer in winter and down in summer. this site has a good explaination of pre ignition. hope this helps. paul. http://www.ngkntk.co.uk/working/RunScript....\Pg176.asp
  12. ham2, what brand of ATF do you use? and do you buy the same grade SAE ?

    Rev3 Kickstart

yes i think you can, the attatched link is from the importers site, it shows that you will have to remove the outer case only. if you call the importer and ask the question they will be more than helpfull with advice, and they will dispatch the advised parts as well ! in the mean time check this link (page 12 of the file) cheers paul http://www.betatrialuk.com/images/stories/...0-270engine.pdf

    08 Beta Plug

spudsdad , its a bit technical but check this link, it explains most of what you need to know. i must admit though that i have an 08 beta and so far the plug looks fine ! ( its a 7 ) http://www.ngkntk.co.uk/working/RunScript....\Pg100.asp its a good site. cheers paul

    08 Beta Plug

as far as i am concerned this is the wrong way round. the higher the number the hotter the plug. the rev3 has always run better on a hotter plug, this is the reason why the importer advises to use a 5 rated plug. some people use these forums as a source of good information, to genuinly help with set up, running and riding. hovis , you are giving out misleading information, if you dont know, dont reply.

    based on what ?
  18. tombo46 . if at all possible try and get a ride on a gasgas before changing , even if its an 07, you will be amazed at the difference. i know what you mean about getting fed up with a bike, once its in your mindset its time to change.
  19. it may end up costing more in postage but you could try http://www.jkhirst.co.uk/acatalog/Pistons_Rings_Pins.html or http://www.tytrials.co.uk
  20. i agree with danman10270 the jet kit sorted my 05 bike no problem. at the same time i would also give the top end a strip down and a good de-coke. i also fitted at a later date some dual stage reeds (boysen). these made the biggest difference but i had to go back up one size on the pilot to stop it pre-igniting. overall it transformed the bike. hope this helps. paul.
  21. thats great to see, its the only way to learn how things work, and the feeling he gets when its back together and running will be fantastic. reminds me very much of my youth. you must post the pictures of the finished bike. regards. paul.

    Tyres

yeah....great idea, and what about increasing the suspension travel as well, and upside down longer forks to increase the ground clearance. and put a seat on it so you can get better traction out of corners, and a 9lt tank. and paint it orange and write KTM on it.
  23. hi and welcome. re-practice, join the Horsforth club and practice at swaine woods. see you there paul. http://www.horsforthtrials.co.uk/
