    04 Sherco 290

glasses guide has the value of an 04 between
  2. it sounds like a "top off" to me, just for peace of mind i would want to check the piston to make sure it has'nt nipped. there is a fine line with the lubrication on two strokes, jet rich and you can get away with a slightly leaner oil ratio. jet spot on or slightly leaner, then the oil mix has to be spot on , with a good quality oil. i have recently re-built a 200 ktm , good fuel mix but very low on gearbox oil, it nipped the mains but the barrel was ok, as i say its a fine line.

    Engine Knock?

try a de-coke, piston ,head and exhaust, cures mine everytime. the knock is an ignition in the cylinder not caused by the spark, when you look at the piston it will have pin head holes in the carbon but not the metal, this is where its gone PING ! de-coke and it will be cured. use new base gasket and new o rings as well. hope this helps
  4. try a google search for towsure.

    Beta Carburetors

jetted my 05 250 last weekend, much better, but not spot on, yet. i wonder why there are differences between bikes of the same year some rich, some ok, mind you, not really bothered now cos mines alright
  7. best bet is to take the mudgaurd down to a local bodyshop / re-finishers, they will identify the type of plastic and advise what paint it will need. wont be cheap though, would'nt a new gaurd would be the best bet?
  8. i should e-bay the wife, nevermind the shirt. mind you the postage whould be astronomical ! i also realise i have posted this in the wrong topic.....thats jack daniels for you.
  9. socks, pants and a sherco.....i think not!
  10. "what do you want for christmas?" says the wife "oh how kind, i would like a beta riding top to go with my beta please, their red and on the left as you walk in the shop" "consider it done". so this morning i reach for my parcel from under the tree, it feels about right, it weighs about right, i open with visions of being fully cordinated at tommorows trial. its blue and has sherco written right across the front.........
  11. check the float needle valve by removing the carb and blowing down the fuel pipe, air should pass freely with the carb the right way up then turn the carb upside down and it should stop, then it sounds like you need to adjust the air screw, get the bike nice and warm, turn the tickover up ever so slightly the adjust the air screw in or out until the bike ticks over at its fastest. do all the adjustments without touching the throttle. it should then sound like, yyyyiiiiinnnngggg,
  12. i know there has been a thread on 270 jetting but has anyone modified a 250? my 05 chokes at the top end of the rev range, it will clear but at the next section its choked again. it only clears when its really hot. i have held off doing anything until the tempeature droped to see if it made a difference as it got colder, but i cant say i have noticed much. im fed up with charging at long hill climbs only to get half way up, the bike chokes up, and back down i come!! any advice welcome. ta.
  13. you need to remove the pivoting end, it will come out backwards, but its a bit faf to say the least
  14. streams, i love em, especially the ones in winter, about 2 feet deep, that you cant get out of for 3 sections, and there a massive line of riders waiting to go, oh yeah, streams, i love em!

    07 Beta 250 Vs 270

i have owned both recently and i found that droping to a 250 from a 270 has improved my riding, better results and far more enjoyable. its the way the power comes in on a 270 that makes it harder to ride. i can see why better riders favour the 270 though .

    Filter

always clean and oil with proper filter oil after every ride, best way is to have two or three filters, that way you can remove the dirty one and replace immediately with a clean oiled one.

    Beta 4-stroke

they do look great i agree, but, i will only trade up to a four stroke when i am convinced it will better my riding and give better results or when the section plotters favour a four stroke. the difference between a two stroke and a four stroke is nearly a
  18. i have just fixed a friends 290 with similar symtoms, engine cutting out after going over an obsticle, felt like it was going to run out of fuel on long uphill inclines. we chased the problems conviced it was electrical, we finally traced it to the smallest ammount of contamination in the fuel causing the needle valve to stick. we cleaned the carb 3 times before finding the problem, fitted an in line fuel filter, and swapped filling stations, the bike now runs fine, i would check the carb again just in case, its a lot cheaper than buying a full ignition system . hope this helps. paul.

    04 315 Advice?

i am going to look at an 04 315 this weekend and wondered if there was any advice that anyone could offer on what to look for on this particular model.
  20. there was another post recently about this, i was there two weeks ago, no signs up to say closed, gates unlocked, and quite a few practicing. i have to say though the farmer did'nt make an apperance for his two quid. does anyone know the correct availability for this land as i wont ride there if it really is shut. will be a shame if it is shut great venue.
  21. could you post some directions to deer park?
  22. you need to hold down the chain tensioner about 50 to 60mm away from the bottom of the swinging arm, so the chain has its shortest possible distance between the bottom of the sprockets, when the chain is linked up correctly you should adjust the tensionerto the correct distance from the arm (20mm?), if the sprockets are std size and the chain the correct lengthyou shouldnt need to alter anything.
  23. may sound obvious , but have you chocked the chain tensioner down?
  24. try any large walking/outdoor shop, they will have loads of different types of waterproof socks, just dont tell em you ride off road!
