  1. Gearing differnt maybe. Or you got low compression or flywheel weight added or his has boysen reeds or differnt timing
  2. piston around 100 120,rings maybe seperate extra 10ish replate around 120 post x2 20ish gaskets little end pin odds n sods another 30ish so could be 300 odd , i would speak to your dealer or maybe see if any breakers have a top end try allens spares uk they are on ebay
  3. that looks like its been red hot , is it poss your water pump didnt go back together properly and failed , you could of had an air lock , or maybe just the fan failed , but it now looks like the top end needs removing as your cylinder and piston are probably goosed , remove front pipe and get a look up exhaust port ,,, if you dont know what you are doing i would strongly advise someone else rebuilding it as one small thing over looked and your back at square one and its easy enough for said be experienced people to miss something or replace a small part incorrectly and cause engine damage
  4. never heard of a clutch slipping downhill ,, why not use your brakes more than the engine braking long engine braking on a 2 stroke is not good as theres little lubrication at high rpm which can cause a seizure
  5. Cant see that been possible . What is the first symptom is it a bork maybe ? If so it could be lean might just be due a carb clean
  6. 520 would be best but you will need the appropriate sprockets to fit ,,ie if it has 428 on you would need to replace sprockets as well

if not having linkage was a downfall it would have been improved as you will know each year a new improved model comes out , they have now changed it on the evo but id rather have no worn out linkages on my suspension , it is a good idea to keep an eye on air filter and clean when necessary depending on riding conditions , changing the oil is up to the individual , but the more the better , trials engines are not run flat out like mx they just potter about thus under far less stress and can go on for many years without a rebuild
  8. side to side is normal ,push to one side and check for up and down ,,, if nothing you need to check piston to cylinder clearance , also check if any up and down on flywheel
  9. Removing a wheel or both maybe enough to put them off . A bit inconveniant but cheap
  10. maybe drill through head and use grip securing wire to tie it somewhere
  11. sounds rich low down ,, is it like the chokes still slightly on
  12. someone has mentioned on here recently that the magnets can loose there strength but havnt come across it is the earths ok , any breaks in wires dirty connections black wires ( corroded copper ) can you check voltage going into rectifier , could fan be failing and needing more power to operate
  13. you might get it with a hand held impact tool with a socket on the end
  14. air ratchets arnt all that powerfull needs to be a rotary type you can get 240v ones poss from machine mart ,, has to be refitted fair tight aswell or will break the woodruff key
  15. if they are damaged then yes and they are core plugs , vehicle engine re conditioners tend to stock them
  16. it is left hand thread an impact gun would make life easier other wise you may have to put a screw driver through one of the holes in flywheel and find something solid on the inner case to hold it against ,, you will also need a puller to remove flywheel
  17. i think its for aerodynamics to prevent any unwanted turbulence or drag so to speak
  18. it is always best to make sure everything is working as you go through each stage , it is necessary for the shafts to be turned for the gears to locate , i think you need to dismantle until you find the problem , also tightening the casings back up if some things out of place it could cause damage so always make sure all shafts turn nicely whilst fastening back up ,, you may need to tap the crank to free tension through the bearings to free it
  19. i didnt think monos were out in the 70,s what model is it
  20. what is colour of plug if checked when ran up to problematic temperature ,, it does sound like it is running lean which will also cause hot running adding to the problem
  21. what happens when you adjust the slide height , also how have you set the mixture screw ,,, how about having the carb ultrasonic cleaned
  22. Cut end of mont off get 2 pieces of plate to make new mounts drill bolt up and weld to frame you might be able to get away with 2 washers welded on but if not confident get someone to do it with fabrication experience or good mechanic
  23. I did hear the scotts are getting new powers ,it could happen l lol
