This will be OK.
The advantage of a smaller primary is that you can reduce the size of rear sprocket making it less vulnerable to snagging.

The wheel is on an Italjet 4 banger.
I want a spare as usual.
I wondered if it was fitted to other makes as it is not easy to find broken (other than the kickstarts) bikes.
Thanks for your help.

The hub width is not the same as the fantic.
The drum size is definately the same so I was probably wrong.
I have never had a CCM Armstrong etc so cannot compare.
Thanks.

I have a bike fitted with a 110mm conical Grimeca hub which is very similar to those fitted to a Fantic.
It differs in the following ways;
the strengthening hubs internally are much larger,
there are small strengthening ribs visible on the outside of the hub,
the distance between the spoke sets left and right is narrower resulting in a narrower hub.
It was originally white.
Fantic sprocket and back plate fit.
The bike was constructed in about 1983 or 1984.
Does anyone have one for sale or know of a model it was fitted to.

Do you have an address for Off road only as I cannot find the URL

Are there any differences between carbs fitted to two strokes and 4 strokes?
For example I have a spare Mikuni originally fitted to a Beta Zero, can I fit it to a four stroke honda engine?
I understand the jetting may need changing but is there any other differences I need to be aware of.
I ask because I seem to remember that Amal concentrics are engine type specific.

As the World round is right next door to the factory I guess that this would be a good time to present it.

All modern bikes will out perform 90% of the end users. They are a very basic machine with few real differences in design as they are all designed to do exactly the same job. (250 or thereabouts single cylinder two stroke built into a frame with standard geometry wheelbase etc, and bought in forks wheels and brakes). So why on earth are they going to be very different to ride. It basically boils down to nit-picking details between factories. At least the four strokes have changed the natural order in the combustion department but the rest stays the same.
Vive la difference!

I have two Ossa monoshocks with the cantilever rear end, an ex- works DMW with the petrol in frame (~1976) and an ex Jarvis 2001 Sherco. I am always looking for others to buy with a cast iron history.
-
I know of two genuine ex miller in France, recently there was one on ebay from a batch of I think 5 which Mick Grant had built into Jim Susans frames. If anybody wants to sell one....
-
Anyone know of a source of tank graphics
Thanks.
-
Thank gawd mines not like that one.
The monoshock is a simple cantilever as was used on the yamaha crossers and DT series, i.e. no linkages.
The best thing about it is the weight 77kg all up less fluids!!! A good 20kg lighter than standard.

Thanks, JR did ride one as did Geoff Chandler, Mecca Metcalf and others. I am looking for details on the air filter and exhaust position etc, which unfortunately the Morley book doesnt show.
Thanks for your help.

I am looking for some photos of the works ossa monoshocks (Cheney frame) which were around in the mid seventies. Does any one have any images that show how the bikes were put together. I would also like to contact any of the riders or Roger Holden.
Thanks for your help.

Simal, they have two places near Preston and in Wakefield do all sizes and will cut to your requirements. Top blokes.

I grew up in South Yorkshire in the mid seventies. Everyone but everyone was generously sponsored by NCB whether the company knew them or not. Happy memories of single route trials riding against all the heros. Dave Thorpe, Mick Andrews.....

The Yam clutch is normally v.light, I suggest a venhill featherlight clutch cable would be a better move.
-
Err.... big and grippy I suppose???
-
Why not ride the easy route on a less competative bike, air cooled mono, twinshock or pre 65. It is amazing how much fun you can have on the easy course with an old bike. Not to mention upsetting the young 'uns.

Looks very good, does the fuel injection need a battery to pump the fuel under high pressure??
I have got to say it has exceeded my expectation, cant wait to try... buy one.
-
Why do people rate the Jumbo so highly, I have one and find it a bag of nails. Does'nt rev handling not that clever and heavy to boot. It has done very very little work so is not just a question of tuning. What am I missing????
-
As the owner of a dozen twin shock and pre 65 trials I go with Steve with the 240 Fantic being the closest to modern in response.
A large number of multi test articles (written in French) from this era can be found on the Fantic Motor Passion website. The conclusions are understandable. I have also found info on an Australian site.

Standard airbox is very poor.
Use a Gas Gas or similar from a later bike to give more volume.

Go to your local dealer.
Ask for an after market Honda C90 step through coil.
Go home and fit it.
Viola.
