  1. straight away jump all over an electrix world ign.. the best 179 quid you can spend.. stops starts runs fast and slow when you want every time.. easily best mod.. 4 plate basket i think is a straight swap.. trials friendly plates and springs all over tinterweb do it right do it once.
  2. so back to this original bike been found..does this mean that a bike displayed in a prominant museum as the actual bike and displaying the registration number was not and is not and was infact a fake/replica?
  3. welcome to the wonderful world of bantams.. they are notorious fickle when it comes to jetting no two are ever the same and you may as i did have to experiment for a significant time before finding the sweet spot but when you do you ll know.. i ve used the electrix world and they fit and work ..
  4. the japanese motorcycle outsold its english rivals not because the english product was built to last and be maintained over its lifetime.. but simply because it didnt need the level of maintenace and its size and simplicty meant it became a staple of the ride to work working man. my grandad rode a velocette first a big banger with sidecar then a noddy bike finally selling out to a little honda as all he had to do was put oil and petrol in it he had a big wooden box on the back for his butties and overalls and rode to work on it till he retired at 65 ( that was almost 40 years ago..) british automotive quality was awful my father bought an daganham rust bucket in new in 1963. within the year it was scrapped as it was a common jest to blcck the rainwater channels with chewing gum on the production line..
  5. they didnt 'persevere' with them as the british motorcycle industry believed that big bikes were the only bike real men wanted to own. that and the fact that british workers didnt want to make any kind of bike unless they were paid more and when they did make them the quality was awful.
  6. as demand for amc spares for scrambles and trials is not strong infact i cant recall seeing a trials bike with an amc unit in a dozen years.. and that was in my garage..i suspect they will remain in the oil a little longer.. good luck..
  7. no security no overnight parking arrangements.. ask your BnB if they have something secure..
  8. you ll have to make up a top hat spacer from brass or something similar.. ufortunately no one at bsa imagined that anyone would want to replace their excellent forks with something from a spanish motorcycle 50 years later..
  9. fabrication time as above. either make one or have someone mod a new wes to fit.. the joys of pre65.. getting the length of the pipe from barral to silencer is critical to performance..
  10. my first question would be very simple followed by praise for making the effort.
  11. i have a simple rule.. when i step off my bike helmet comes off.. before i get back on helmet goes on..
  12. you ve not adjusted the clutch properly..
  13. if a youngster had wanted the bike he could have bought it.. it didnt need restoring it was a running riding mot d bike.. i have another coming this weekend hopefully.
  14. b175 comes std with a centre plug so its not even a mod.. result .. last one i bought a full running bike with mot.. broke it for parts on eblag kept the motor.. one fewer complete bike also means values rise.. result all round.
  15. a little background.. four into three wont go.. fourspeed box wlere not manufactured pre 65 and some clubs did not accept them in trials many clubs though have a pre 70 two stroke class for which they are eligible. Yorks classic was certainly amongst the former very much a three speed only.. however a motion was put at the agm some few yaers ago and the two stroke class became a pre 70 two stroke class and thus the 4spd became elgible and approx. a dozen bantams from home brews to 'works draytons can be seen most weekends in Gods country. the suzuki piston is thought by many to be essential but i cant notice any difference it makes swapping between bikes, electrix world ignition is a valuable mod ( other ignitions are available) and swapping the gears inside the box is also of high value in a 4spd but no good in a three..the best mod is time and patience.. get that carb spot on and they stop and go with barely a whiff.. no figures to guide though as a brilliant carb on one bike might be a crock of ## on a bike of the same spec. i have a drayton bantam with roadholders and falcons with a std engine and frankly its brilliant goodness only knows what a decent rider could do with it but more than one has ridden it and offered strong money..
  16. co incidence..http://www.the-saleroom.com/en-us/auction-catalogues/wotton-auction-rooms/catalogue-id-srwot10044/lot-63c417c6-00fc-482d-b453-a4470148686c
  17. answer the questions on the application form.. only answer the questions on the form..send it off.. they ll eeither accept or refuse it
  18. why on earth would one of the established trials manufacturer wish to reinvent the wheel.. they make a wrold class product and sell very few probably all bar one lose money on every bike.. look at gasgas where they have led others will follow
  19. i built my own drayton and had theexactly the opposite experience everything that i bought for the bantam just bolted straight on it was as simple to build as it is to ride. the only point of abrasion was setting up the carb. i took perhaps 9 months to get it smoother than silk and picking up from zero.. put the same carb on other bikes though and they wont run. setting up seems individual to each engine even if they are standard..
  20. Hurah that document from the VMCC linked above details everything you need simply and consicely.. can it be saved somewhere prominant on trials central?

  22. true but there is the VMCC or better still an importer and former importers are still trading.
  23. this is the current dvla apporved list https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/399932/V765X1_280115.pdf
  24. excellent question perce.. 100k is a lot of money.. he already says he has two bikes and spares in the magazine article. for 9 months if he takes a salary of 5k a month gives a spanner man/ van driver 2k a month uses a big merc van at 600 a month plus 1400 a month for fuel that still leaves him 8k before he runs out of cash.. perhaps he might turn up for the ssdt and show us how good he really is..
  25. i dont think roy bacon is accepted any longer.. you ll need the bike authentcating by one of the clubs on the dvlas list some clubs will take it on frame and engine numbers others will want 'rubbings' of the numbers some will want to send a very nice man for reasonable expences.. you takes your chances.. q plates are no longer reversible once its a q now its a q forever
