Anybody actually received their tickets yet for the Carlisle world round ?
I ordered mine in January but thay havent arrived yet
-
yes copemech for the same reason people in your neighbourhood by a 290 Sherco and then retard the timing 5mm
a bigger motor has more torque which suits me better even if I have to calm it down a little.
If you try and increase power on a 250 thats quite difficult to achieve without making the power peaky. However calming down a bigger engine is cheap and you get more useable power, this can be done through flywheel weights, inlet spacers and even just a slow throttle.
-
Peter
have you had any main bearing issues after fitting a flywheel weight ?
I'd like to try one but dont wish to comprimise reliability with the SSDT coming up.
-
Just that the minder can stand at the biggest step in the section to catch the rider rather than having to run about and that neither party needs to shout. If it wasn't any advantage I dont think they would use it ?
-
In those days we didnt used to run a tickover, ideally I used to set my bikes to run about 5 beats before stalling.
you couldnt do that with that model JCM, if you left the tickover the same sometimes it would stall almost instantly sometimes 5 beats. Doesnt seem that important but when riding it was very difficult to gauge when it was about to stall.
Problems at the SSDT were mainly the shock losing its damping due to the shim stack breaking up then bursting the rubber diaphram which held the oil. The major plus was the air filter system, that year it absolutely lashed it down but you couldnt drown a JCM, the air intake was up by the HT coil, a cracking idea.
when re fitting the rear wheel always remember to connect the rear brake cable. Some people have been known to forget to do this and then crash into the SSDT time control hut in the car park.....
-
I rode my first SSDT on a bike just like that.
Ignition system was poor as the spark is not reliable below about 1000rpm. Never had the problem you describe though.
Hows the shock holding out ?
pm if you need any more info I might be able to help you.

I think this maybe is a strategy to thin out the reserve list
-
I'm very concerned about HAM2, I cant see any undercrackers in that post of him in the bath with his bike.
Dubious
-
last time round was on my copemech tuning sherco in 2007.
drowned the bike monday and had to pump all the water out but after that it never missed a beat all week.
I'm riding this year on the new Gas Gas
check out your friends list on facebook

first year was quite an experience 1986.
Ran out of fuel on the friday afternoon run from fersit to Kinlochleven. I caught up with fellow north east rider who had burnt a hole in his petrol tank. Tried to tow him using both of our bum bags but we were to knackered to manage on the flat never mind the hills. We calculated the other guy had to be in Fort william in 10 mins or he would be out of the trial so I left him to the back markers !
I did about another two mile and ran out myself, but I was right at the top of the hill and coasted all the way to the fuel check in Kinlochleven
On the tuesday I had the carb off as the bike had stopped, I couldnt find anything wrong so I was refitting it when i noticed the fuel breather was twisted when I had refitted the petrol cap at the fuel check....
been lots of laughs since but i cant type that quickly

This is where Baldilocks needs some help.
I dont mind drops i can jump off its the ones you have to ride down with the front wheel on the ground I hate and often come a cropper on.
A few years ago I sailed over the bars at the Vic Brittain and the observer said I was the only person all day to do that !
so what are the basics so that I can work out what I do wrong ?
-
You have probably overfilled the system and water is not recommended as far as I know.
drain the system, it takes about 5 minutes, and replace with a coolant suitable for Aluminium engines with a corrosion inhibitor
-
you have let the cat out of the bag now Justin
all this my 4RT is great patter ?
It will be for track days, the rest of us are riding our bikes off road

One end of the spindle screws into the other, leave the pinch bolts tight on the right side and undo the pinch bolts and spindle from the disc side. THen undo the pinch bolts on the right and tap the spindle through, you need a socket the size of the OD of the spindle to avoid damaging the threads
-
If you need a wider fit try the Rainers boots Birkett sells. I have wide feet and find these comfortable. I got a new set before the SSDT in 2007 and although I havent exactly ridden every week they have lasted very well, I'm thinking I'll get this years ssdt out of them.
their not the most popular brand but I cant fault them
-
funny you say that, it leaps out of my hands a lot less since I removed the spark plug.
125 next for me I think
-
that looks a lot like a sherco engine from the left, wonder what the other side is like ?
-
just because I bought a new bike and you havent you have to go and post this
well thanks a lot mate
-
I'd bet your house thats a shirt silencer, is it straight through ? it should be
-
The stand was on the left on the S model so this is either an early R with an S model swinging arm or an S model with the small tank and seat.
good bike either way
-
Shirty did make some in aluminium, I had one, or it could be steel painted silver
-
If the M/cyl is leaking fluid where the adjuster attaches from the lever you will have to change the Seal, a seal kit is about
-
I rode an excellent trial a few years ago (2004) which started near Torver.
I think it was run by Barrow club ? single lap, lots of Lakes 2 day sections and it was late January / early feb I think.
anybody know if its on this year ?
cheers
