  1. Not all riders are good teachers. Ryan is. So while I think some of the 'blame' falls on the production team involved in the project, I have a suspicion Bou just isn't a natural teacher. Plus, it's tough to try and teach basics when to you the basics are so innate you don't even notice them anymore. Which is why guys like Ryan are such a big draw... great skills combined with the ability to teach.
  2. I've seen one in the US, at a trial. That's about all I can say...
  3. 350mL. You can use any 75w motorcycle gear oil (e.g. Maxima MTL) or ATF (either Dexron III or VI).
  4. My '13 would pop out of gear without me having done anything other than let out the clutch and roll forward a foot. Trust me, it wasn't the shifter length.
  5. I'd wager that the vast majority of failed wheel bearings in wet locations is from water ingress. Packing with grease isn't done to lubricate the bearings any 'better', but simply to create a barrier to water. I can't really imagine going through wheel bearings every 6 months... I've put 200+ hours on every bike I've had and I've never done wheel bearings in any of them. But neither do I live in bright and beautiful Britain.
  6. I think the bike has zero to do with any of this. Sure, Honda can throw more money at the bike, but if the bike were the deciding factor Fuji would be on the podium every round. We all know trials is 95% rider. Bou trains hard to stay where he is. So does Fajardo of late, and look at the resurgence he's had. The minimum weight limit is constantly trotted out as some sort of Honda conspiracy. Well, here are some other things prohibited by the rules, and I submit that if they weren't in here, it doesn't take much imagination to envision what Honda might be able to do that none of the other manufacturers could without going bankrupt. ---------------------------- - no supercharging - no telemetry - the use of titanium in the construction of the frame, the front forks, the handlebars, the swinging arms, the wheel- and swinging arm-spindles is forbidden. - no CF for handlebars or rims - no ceramics - electronically controlled throttle valves are forbidden - the overall width of the tyre when fitted must not exceed 115 mm (plus some other tread block spacing, etc rules). They also can't be one-offs, they have to be available for sale to the public. - some rules around permitted fuels, octane, etc. -------------------------
  7. You guys keep trying to "help" an already small class by cutting it up into ever smaller pieces instead of thinking about how to get more people into it. It's short sighted at best. At worst you're advocating telling the best riders in the world they're not wanted anymore. Talk about destroying the validity of the championship...
  8. Alpinestars and Gaerne are at opposite ends of the spectrum. The latter feel like slippers and offer similar protection. The A* are a ton firmer.
  9. The more you roll the bars forward, the more they essentially flatten out.. So the suggestion would be to either roll the bars you've got forward to make them less annoying, or get some Renthals. They only make two trials bar bends, and I think the only difference is the rise, so take your pick. These things are really all preference, which we can't dictate over the internet. If you can't try them first, my suggestion is just roll your Sherco bars foward. It's what I did, and it made them a lot less horrible.
  10. Apparently not that fine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRCjWWiCgGg
  11. Now I remember you. Here's the difference between your responses and mine: I'm just looking to have a debate and I see us as having different opinions about the subject in question. You just want the last word. Anyway, in deference to the original poster who simply asked 'Should there be another line between gp and t2', my opinion stands: No. Over and out.
  12. Ok, I lose. Congratulations on your internet victory.
  13. You're asking me to admit something as if your view of the state of things is reality rather than an opinion, and I don't share your view. Holding back your ideas on how to fix what you perceive as problems doesn't exactly further your argument to me or anyone else. Share the suggestions and perhaps you'll get some converts. Otherwise you're just complaining (which takes me back to my initial post about the internet and complaints... who'd have guessed).
  14. Apparently so. But given you have presented zero ideas for fixing your perceived problems, aside from perhaps building a 1990 time machine, I don't see that it much matters.
  15. And having them ride Trial2 would be, what? Shameful?
  16. I never claimed it would. In fact, as mentioned, in my opinion there's really nothing wrong. But please, continue...
  17. Ok, so what do you want to do? Make the top level easier? Go watch a 1990 world round (here's one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvCDu6GR1ck). Run that same event today and you're going to have half a dozen guys come back clean on the day.
  18. In your opinion. I know there's this feeling among some people that competition at the world level should somehow reflect a club trial. I don't agree.
  19. 30 years ago the level of riding was also not remotely what it is today. You've basically just re-iterated my point: it's really hard to ride GP now, so there are less people able to do it. So you've got two choices: make the top level easier, which I think is lame, or groom more riders early on to compete at that level.
  20. I know it'll blow people's minds to hear it, as the internet is the home of complaining, but I don't think there's anything to fix at the world level (aside from going back to three loops. I'll bypass the issue of no-stop for now). Trial2 has proven to be the best thing to happen to world level trials competition in recent memory: you've got a variety of winners, the championship is wide open, guys dropping down from GP are by no means guaranteed to win, manufacturers and importers are pushing riders to Trial2 because they know it's a place they have a chance of getting some visibility on the podium. I'll say it again: it's the best thing going for trials at this level, leave it alone. You're never going to have 50 guys riding in GP, the initial pool of people interested in trials at an early age is just too small to result in a huge influx of riders who can compete at that level. If you want more people in GP, you need to start at the bottom by getting more people into the system, not screw around trying to limit the level at the top. The jump to GP should be big: adding a line between GP and Trial2 is just going to shrink two already small groups into three extremely small ones.
  21. They will be. Next season will be 3 loops of 10 sections.
