  1. I have seen main bearings rust from a bike not being started afterwards. The bike was washed hard after an extemely muddy event, driven 1500 miles home and parked for two weeks. When started it made a nice roaring sound. The bike was only 3 months old. I know this as I was the mechanic that fixed it. Start it aftwr a wash, or do not wash it.
  2. Just remember you must run it after it dries. The same day, not next week.
  3. The depth is very short, so short I left my used michelin on and put rhe new Dunlop front on a bike I was selling. i just bought two sets of michelins for our bikes and two dunlop rears for practice tires.. The new Dunlop fronts might be ok with some, but I will stay with the Michelin.
  4. The gp Dunlop front is the lighter as tread is 33% less.
  5. Yeah, I bet a bit smokey at 25 to 1. Fuel consumption is totally dependent on what type of riding. If you are trials riding the bike barely gets on the main. If you are out trail riding all the time, it will suck down alot more. At least the old Cota has a big tank.
  6. Just buy the Michelin X lite. No comparison needed.
  7. It does not take very long to burn a 4 stroke valves running too lean a mixture. My sons bike we ran a 135 main and 30 pilot at low elevation. We run a 115 main at ten thousand ft.
  8. Don`t bother to take the whole ring off as it is hard on the clutch and the 40% works just fine. Thanks for reminding me that I have a Beta tubeless rim I need to put on my bike next weekend. Much easier just to use a 32 hole Morad rim than make a project out of it. new spokes can be bought from the UK.

    Rear Brake Woes

Do you have new pads? It usually is just pads as the brakes are not real thick to begin with. I have seen this happen dozens of times.
  10. If you have been riding a bike at sea level that was properly jetted for high altitude, I would first do a compression check.
  11. I have never had a shifting problem on a Beta. `86 `89 `92 `95 `96 `97 `00`01`02`03 `06`10`16. I would bet you are hitting the shifter some how. Good luck with the Gasser. It does some things better. Rear brake and easier to get up under cut ledges. It breaks better too.
  12. I think you have read too many modern posts. Or it is lost in the translation. The 1996 did not use mineral oil anywhere. But pre oiling your plates is always good in a wet clutch. Remember the clutch boss or pressure plate only goes on one way. It is marked with a notch.
  13. He usually does, but sometimes I don`t wait for him. Being he is 6`5`` the bike suits him well.
  14. Trouble is it is quite large compared to the two stroke. I am reminded how large every time I load my sons bike into my van.
  15. I have never boiled water, but I got married for that. Location, temp, etc, All have things to do with it ever coming on. In the winter the fan rarely comes on unless you are abusing the clutch. Besides the fan, it is still getting air cooling and water. You would think of asking who you got it from.
  16. It is true the standard 4T Beta is very quiet., but the two stroke 200 Beta is the best all around bike to someone new to this sport.
  17. With out a better pic, I would say they are the wrong pegs.
  18. I am trying to make it. I need to get out of setting the two day ITSA National that I have set the last three years. So far nobody is stepping up to do it. My son has yet to ride the UTE. I first rode it in 1974, started the same minute as Schrieber and Whalley. I have ridden it over twenty times. Need to get my kid up there.
  19. I am not a 4 RT lover. But the bike has been around a long time. Yours is crap because you took it swimming. Not because it is made in Spain.
  20. Alarms. All the noise does is annoy the neighbors and a monitoring service let`s you know you have been robbed. Spend your money and time on prevention.
  21. On anything modern it is more about timing and the clutch.
  22. It is called a trials bicycle, not a bmx. (Of which you need.) Any practice is better than none though. The mountain bike is a great idea for balance, timing and cross training.
  23. If the bike runs better on choke, then the problem should be the pilot circuit. There are two exists to this circuit. One under the slide and one in front of the slide. Spray contact cleaner into the pilot jet and you should get fluid out of both. The Keihin has got a known death barble. Find another carb to test with. Sometimes it may require a new carb.
  24. All bikes are underpowered at elavation. That is why 300's are popular out west. You are on a UK forum, they pretty much ride at sea level. Even 125's run good there.
  25. There is a main jet, like a 118. A choke jet like a 60 and I think the early 315 had two small pilot jets on top of each other in the same hole. Either way the pilot circuit has two other openings. One under the slide and one in front of the slide towards the engine. Spray something into the pilot jet and make sure it comes out of both holes. Also make sure the choke circuit in the bottom of the float bowl is clear. That is where the long jet with the oring sits. PS if it has two pilot jets, just go ahead and leave the bottom one out. Just leave the top pilot jet in the carb. Be careful taking these out.
