I would think the majority of club riders have gone through many rule changes and although not liked some of the changes have stuck with it because they like the sport and people that go along with it.
To say you would stop riding trials if they do change the rules to full no stop is a bit soft in my book.
When Doug started riding the full world championship series, the FIM changed the rules every year, somtimes twice, the good ones adapt and get on with it.

This topic could go on for another 6 pages if it's about who prefers what rules, isn't the real issue about falling numbers across the board ?.
Yes! in the past 25 years, the riders, bikes and section have all got more spectacular, but for some reason over that same 25 years the participation in every aspect has dropped off.
If the number of bikes sold is down and the cost of running a world team is way up, at some point the focus has to change from the sharp end and get back to the grass roots,
I would like to know who the major player is that has supposedly pulled the plug, it will also be interesting to see what reason they give, probably summat along the lines of WOFTAM.
The poor man's motor sport was at it's best when machines were cheap, and the sections were sensible.
-
Hope you get an entry Pete, you won't be no virgin come Mon evening if you do,
in fact old slapper comes to mind.
I talked Stan in to entering again, and plan on sending an entry in myself.
-
I think Kinell had that in mind, or was it bar crew
-
It's not hard to mark out an event for the majority of riders, just sensible straight forward sections, the sharp end may moan about it being too easy, but attendance at many trials grows from experience riders have in years past or word of mouth from riders who tell their mates it's a cracking event.
Deosn't really matter what the rules are if the C of C stop trying to please the few and plan a course that can be ridden under any set of rules, bigger entries are worth a lot more than the odd big name.
-
I got a free entry once, cos I marked out the trial and did the entries are there some daft buggers still thinking they can mek owt at this job.
-
The scoring rules of maintaining forward motion , are a lot harsher on the rider than the current rules that let you correct yourself if offline.
It about sums up how soft it
-
My thoughts about using the SSDT as a round were a bit tongue in cheek Andy, no way would I like to see any changes to the event just to cater for a couple of riders, that it just why the world championships went down the toilet in the first place.
Those that rode no stop back when! had to go along with rule change when the world riders started trick riding, it would be no different for the young riders today to change back to those style of rules.
-
The young un's will prefer stop and hop if the majority of trials they have ridden are scored that way, to them it's the norm, those 0ver 35 yrs will have ridden both and many are seeing that the sport before all this trick riding was more enjoyable, easier to plot a section and had more participation at both club and world level.
I don't know how many rules changes there has been since I started riding trials, but it's a lot, and I don't think one change has improved the sport.
The wrapping round the box does look rather special with the fancy bikes and mega sections, but once you open the box it's all packing material and rather empty.
-
I don't think it would unless they ease way off on the section difficulty, cost, no minders, and all on stock machines, then a couple more might ride
Mebe the SSDT as one round, that should count for one of the best entries ever in a world round, then one or two of the Euro multi day events, and call it good.
-
Some nice modded machines but does it give the owner/rider an advantage ? if the answer is yes, Then it must be a foul. Then the question must be! do you ban the machines, or add a class for modded air cooled mono's.
I think it's a foul because the machine didn't start it's life as a twin shock, if the rules had stated this from the get go, it probably wouldn't of become a problem, if you keep letting the rules slide, in the end they mean bugger all.
-
I think Tessier was one of the original men who started Scorpa in the late eighties, then sold his interest to fire up the Sherco brand.
Now if they can get that little air cooled Yam four banger in a perimeter Frame, they might have a good seller, it needs to get the sump off the ground, and a way to get at the carb without taking the bike appart, it was like they found a way to shoe horn it in the two stroke frame and that was enough, if Sherco are going with a whole new frame for the 010 range, I think the current frame could be a good home for the little air banger.
Scorpa do have some loyal fans, and the Yam lump is very reliable in both the Two and four banger version, I would like to see the option still out there, it only adds to the sport.
-
Stop, no stop rules come up every so often, and you
-
When riding the SSDT one should always avoid the luminous green stuff, or you could be up to your neck in
-
I too have never done more than half of the events, I would rather do the SSDT and the PNTA series, the sleet and rain is a lot nicer than the Tennessee sweat lodge, although I hear Vermont and the New York were a lot cooler.
No complaint's! if you don't ride em, you can't win em.
-
Just a thought, but the competitor lane for entering and exiting the impound is against the wall of the parking lot and it does give some protection aginst the weather, if the trade stands were against the wall, and the bike lane was next to the waterfront, it may help a bit in bad weather, and also keep the entrance to the PF a little more open.
-
From water pump side, valve cover on to stop me bashing owt, I think the hardest part was getting the rear motor mount lined up so the frame would slip over it.
-
I had a 05, and put the motor in an 06 frame, as said above don't try put the motor in the frame, I put the motor on a bench and then placed the frame at an angle and twisted over the motor, it will go so don't give up hope.
Note the frame needs to be down to bare bones, all the other parts are then very easy to install, the rad will come up from the bottom, but do it when you have only one rear motor mount in, so you can tilt it back a bit if needed.
-
I have only ever ridden the trial out of the west end parking lot, for me it would be a shame to move it.
So it was a bit misty this year and the view may of been restricted, but it's a grand place in nice weather.
That first pint after a long day of riding has to be taken within five minutes of ending the day, or it's just isn't the same.
A load of trials enthusiasts crammed into the west end car park make for a busy and hectic situation, but they also add the flavor that is the SSDT, spread them out and they will all hide in their own little corner,
My opinion is based on what I think I would prefer, nowt more than that.
-
How do you mean copy the GG frame ? no bugger has seen it yet, were you refering to oval tubing, like the 86 RTL ? or the tank under the seat, like a JCM, nowts new, and not a lot to work with on any trials bike, most so called new ideas have been applied before in some way or another.
Some parrot invented the wheel, it was a good idea, makes sense to use those ideas.
-
I have nothing but respect for Doug , and I don
-
Thanks for the heads up .
-
I thought Andy was the only person who Googled his own name.
-
"Plenty of onlookers" Who should apply the rules ?. World rounds have been won and lost because of penalties missed by officials, and fans at soccer or any other sports boo the ref for missing fouls etc, the official can only call what they see.
I know from past reports that Richmond apply the rules to the book, on any rider they catch on the dodge, no matter what thier name is.
-
I could say I saw the top three miss a section, that's why riders can't protest another riders score, if an official sees a rider miss a section that is another matter.
