Sweet!
Get used to it for a bit before any big changes. A softer(supple) suspension can find you a lot of traction!
Who are you riding with up there?
-
The wavy disks on some earlier modes tend to squeal badly. Non of this has anything to do with stopping ability.
Seems to me if you have decent initial pressure build in the levers things have little to do with the master cyl's, although I suppose one could have some sticky pistons in the calipers, yet still seems unlikely in the newer bike.
Have you done the thermo cycling and proper dousing with water yet? Many times this works wonders! Mind you the dousing could require a few tries, then let them dry.
-
Have you run the bike after cleaning the carb? Many times you may never find the culprit bit, as they are soo tiny as to block the pilot jet.
Most caps or vents have a one way ck valve to allow venting in as fuel declines, but not fuel out!
-
You may need to call Jim Snell on that one (Rising Sun), hopefully he has something
-
Wow that does seem odd to me, as I had not heard of this in the past. Soppose it could be temp related?
Might be a good excuse to go to the billet clamp and the fat bars!
Wonder how many times them been crashed, since the bikes are what, 12 years on now? Guess them castings will only take soo much?
-
tHAT IS WHERE TIME LIMITS COME IN!
-
I am not sure that is the case, as the event is the event and all must sigh up! What club or assoc. that keeps point standings is another. Ama does not keep point standings on regional events, the clubs do.
One could earn club points, or regional points, or series points! Who cares, other than the riders?

Zipper, ATF is roughly equal to 10wt fork oil and has good anti-foaming properties. Not sure if there may be an advantage in a real fork oils anti-stiction properties, possibly so, so since you are doing the once a decade fluid change, go for the big bucks!
-
Sounds like you are screwed!
-
"Me and My Baby" comes to mind! You just bought a high maintenance bitch!
-
-
I seen this has been answered elsewhere, but I would say a handfull or half dozen!
-
I guess he missed Christmas!

There is probably some type of racing fuel dealer in your area. Mind you being race gas does not make it alcohol free, as much race gas is "oxigenated" meaning it contains alcohol for its anti knock properties. You must research this.
It does stand to reason that emptying the tank and letting it outgas would work. Just how long it takes I am unsure. A bit of heat such as laying in the sun, or a hairdrier may help, but not to get things too hot!
-
Seems to me most all brake pads start out a bit soft and lacking. This is primarily due to the non asbestos materials used now days and the things require some thermal cycling to firm up and work well.
I usually perform 2-3 good hard stops from a good high speed run in 5th gear to warm them, then let them cool and resume normal operation. Do this 2-3 times to thermocycle them, then on a final trip do the same to get them and the disk good and hot and douse them with a water bottle to steam off. Different pads may take longer to firm up, and tyou do not want to overheat them as they are then ruined!
The stock Galfer pads seem the quickest in dry weather, a bit nil when wet, while the Braking pads seem good in the dry and seem to perform well in the wet.
-
Nice try Zipper! Point I was making here is I just put non-alcohol laced fuel in and left it alone! It shrunk!
-
My basic thoughts here:
Three types of vintage riders:
1- Hardcore Old Iron restorers with big bucks to play with their toys they love.
2- Those that have an old bike, like to ride it, and that may be all budjet allows, do not want to be World Champs, just want to ride.
3- The modern riders that may have an old bike, or want one to play with, yet have been put off by AHRMA rules and such because of all the BS!
Getting(or inviting) these folks for a day out is a big deal! They are out there!
Opening ITSA branches is a start, I do not know that it neccessarily needs to stray far from the regular established clubs events in a regional sense, as they all get together. Yes, there could be special or separate sections. Yet that is where the ITSA comes in.
If there were any common sense applied to any of this, then Zippy might be able to go ride his little TL or whatever it is and get some fun riding in, possibly some regional points! Mayby even qualify for a National get together for a long weekend!
You get the jest ovit!
As a ps- I doubt we have seen the last of Mr Peacock, bless him and lovely wife. They have worked hard at the sport they love.
-
Not that I actually ride one of those POS, but look at things this way. There are probably a lot of folke out there with older bikes that would like to go out and have some fun without restrictive rules and a lot of BS!
I have always thought ITSA may have a bright future if and when some got totally fed up with AHRMA, and that is still true.
Yes, there re a few hard core folks that want to be a national AHRMA Champion, yet not many. For the most part, folks just want to drag out their bikes and ride.
Now not only does this offer an oppertunity for many to incorporate the ITSA series with their exhisting club events, National events, and so fourth. As in the NATC take on things, we do not want to exclude folks here, we want to INVITE them.
Along with that, I can see incorporation of riders and classes of more modern bikes, such as Early Monos, Modified T/S and such! Let them do their thing and enjoy it! For god's sake, is it not for our enjoyment in the first place? Why and who pays the bills here is all up to the riders, not Ahrma for sure!
Is your bike 20years old? Lets RIDE!

At a quick read through this topic, opinions vary and I have my own. I shall go back and take in JC's long dissertatation later, as I cannot absorb it now.
Yet one thing that noone has brought up is just how much skill is required for a modern "hopper" to ride no-stop properly. Yes, the good-uns can still do it properly and it seems to me it is quite difficult under the strictist of observation, yet can be done.
The top lads are not only good ridere, but can be quite decieptful in their quick workings of the bike.
In my recent viewings of some of the top riders in the SSDT I found some potential issues. I cannot recall the specifics, yet I think it was possibly Dabill who was caught in this one section with a momentary pause, then after that a young Jono that rode the same line properly. Same bend, same rear wheel move, yet Jono never stopped the front wheel movement. Perfect! A top lad is hard pressed to get caught out on a momentary hesitation, yet it can happen easily, and it is a lot easier to get points out of these lads that way as compared to trying to kill them on big stuff.
It is SOO hard to lay out a top level trial without getting someone hurt, or making it too easy it is crazy!
I have studied sections for years now and it is still mind boggling. I do think taking the WTC to Scotland sections worked well it seems, as there was a big question on that at first under stop allowed.
So even if I think or prefer stop for one is more in the spirit of the average clubman, I could easily administer some points on the high side to top riders with a few bobbles! They came to play the hard game! Lets play! Don't cut them any slack! Then they MUST improve, yet still a skills game.

Ah, all good then for now! Sweet bike!
-
I know full well not to leave things sit too long even with decent fuel in the bowl, yet that seldom happens here. Other than that I have never had a problem, usually a 2 kick operation or less.
In the 2T, the straight Avgas seeme to do OK, but not in hot weather, as it seems to vaporlock on hot restarts. Although it does seem to keep well in a sealed container, and better than even non alcohol car gas. But getting clean car gas here is next to impossible yet it seems, unless you want to go to Oklahoma for a small can!
Seems you gotta be careful with the race fuels even, as a recent read suggested that even VP was running a 5% blend in most, yet one of their fuels!
Back to the start, I was just surprised the damn thing shrunk!
-
Just tell him to keep checking his "noids then at every chance!
-
Yea, I think Bigfoots is really much more a riders perspective. What's his mates name? Fugly?
I think he got Fugly to do the risky shots laying in the stream! Bunch of nutters they are! He probably got run over a couple times! Still probably the finest representation I have ever seen, or may ever, cause I know it is a lot of hard work and explains why it took him time to complete.
Not sure I could do it if I had the chance! Folks need to realize a bargain when they see it!
-
I kinda think the level of protection should run parallel with with your level of adventure, or skill (OR STUPIDITY)!
