Can someone photoshop OTF's head on this?
-
Ouch! Let me know if I can sourse you anything for less Ralphy!
I found a local '08 KLR with 3500mi for under $4K, seems the going going price. Some dealer has an "11 for $5.2K, but I bet they screw you with all the add ons like shipping, prep and paperwork in the end. I may call, but?
It turned bloody cold again today as I looked at the little serow in the shed before errands on my day off, screw that, it will sit for another week! My hands still ache from frostbite when I was young!
-
What wewe you doing when this occured?
-
-
Jon, possibly their fuel is getting just as bad as ours!
-
Ralphy, I am sure they are good bikes, but to be honest(I am a sort of fundamentalist)I find no favor in German design and engineering, no mind the initial cost, the cost of parts and maintenance.
If I was out that sort of dosh, I would come closer to a Triumph Tiger! Yet both just too pricy for a beater bike of utility that I seldome ride anyway!
I like SIMPLE, or as simple as one can keep it! Add reliable and cheap to maintain. Think I have spent $100 on the Serow in the last three years for a battery and a petcock seal. A;though it does numerous short trips round the neighborhood, and a couple bigger outings, seems I have put 500 miles onit in the three years, so not worth a big investment. Yet I still would like to expand the range! Serow sucks on the highway!
I hate riding bikes in traffic on a daily commute! I hate them when it is too cold, I hate them when it is too hot! After a number of years in my youth when that was the only way, and enough near death experiences along with it, I simply try to enjoy a few outings a year in pristine weather when possible and take to the backroads out of town.

You should be able to take the complete bike. It is not difficult do do, you just need to find a competant soul to do it. Best not left to amatures, so an experienced mechanic or machinist is best. Just ask how many they have done! I have done hundreds!
-
I like the little Serow, but it is a bit nill for moving about at highway speed. I seem to want something I can really go somewhere on in reasonable comfort and a decent clip of 60 or better in cruise. Yet still give some flexability of getting off the beaten path to do some trails and such.
Seems there are others such as the V-Strom and even the expensive KTM 990 or some new expensive Beemer. The Honda 450 is just not a road bike, so what does one doo?
The more I look, the better I like the overall concept of this bike, although still big and heavy, which does have it's virtues on the road, there seems nothing like it out there for the money.

'99 and '00 are different from '01-'05
-
This is not the same thing as I understand! His seems to have a whine under load. Yours seema to rattle when tilt! There was some issue with kickstart gears in this year range as I recall. I had one in '03 i think.
ps- does noise change if you slightly move the kicker lever?

Try contacting Marky Boy on here or call H&D Racing(banner ads here).
You may get by with external sealer and 2K primer if the tank is clean, not sure as I have not tried it lately.
I hope tonybroad is not using the poly resins, as they are useless with the alcohol fuel. Modern epoxy resins should be better, buy I have not studied this. As far as I know there are not fuel permeability issues with the epoxy resins, but throw in the alcohol and that is another problem.

To be honest, I am not sure this is the best stuff to run in a trials bike. I tried the 927(yes I love the smell too)but found some real hard carbon buildup in the exhaust that was rediclously difficult to remove. I stopped using it before I ruined a mid and muff.
The full synth stuff just seems to stay softer and flow better through the exhaust, specially if you get some heat init from time to time to keep things clear.

It looks as though one could plant the ass and really rip some berms on that!

Long story made short, clutches and gears tend to rattle a bit, specially at idle and not under load, this is normal. All has to do with normal mechanical clearances and engine pulsations. Yes, may change with clutch application as load and rotating components change a bit. May also increase with heat and thinning of gearbox oil.

You seen what I meen Neo!! Now YOU are one to talk, I would almost bet a dollar to a donut that you have changed your effn brake fluid just to see if you could do it without screwing up!
-
It does sound better than the Greeves!
-
Pity, but at least it was not a faceplant! Yea, one has to watch out carefully for that sort of stuff. Last time I did the superman gig, it was a small slick root jus under the dirt on a sharp downhill!
Kinda like slipping on ice, as it is still two meters down for yer Head!
Get well soon!
