  1. Look at the pinned Mikuni threat at the top of the Beta forum!
  2. I just want the pic of himon it! Maybe his back yard is worse tha mine!
  3. Oh well, overall and regardless of history, I kinda like where we are at in several ways! I can stop, balance , re-calculate and re-group if needed! I may not roll-back, yet if I do get stuck and need to rock the bike a bit, or bounce back, none of this is counted against me! If I need to pivot the bike, I can stop take my dab for a one! At my age I do not do any of this as dynamically as I might have many years ago! Add the section sevarity has increased! I manage to take enough points as it is! Let's not even get into Brain Farts! Add, If I were a new rider coming into this sport, I would not want to be judged too harshly as well, seems it just tend to put people off, thus back to basics, put your foot down is a dab!
  4. You all are early on the New Year! I got me beer and am waiting to watch my balls drop in New York! Best to all!
  5. Actually they will work just fine, although it is imparitive that you grt all the old oil out! In a nutshell this means removing the dampening unit and manually working it back and forth for some period of time maybe up to five minutes or so. Seems anything less is just a guessing game. I seemed to have difficulty getting an accurate read using the levels method, not quite sure why?
  6. In a way it seems ironic! Firstly, in a club setting I want to set a trial for the riders sections that are safe yet offer difficulty in a technical or physical sense. The objective is to take points off the riders without them killing themselves and all while attending to the rules! Secondly, the observers job is to administer points! Based upon the rules! As an observer that is my job, and I am not leinient because that is the entire objective in the first place and why I am here! I personally enjoy busting some butts! If well deserved. That IS the game! There are still limitations, as in most cases the observer cannot see both sides of the bike(or the feet) and disgression must be given to the rider. Not perfect! Yet it all shakes out I think! Questionable rollback for advantage? NOT MUCH! Still not a Hitler judge, but my job it to give fairly! Enjoy! Find the balance and be fair and equal to all is the best I can suggest in a subjective situation.
  7. One thing for sure, the Beta will chug along down low whilst the Mont flames out! There is a difference!
  8. Very nice work, Dan! Having followed some prior posts, I had done some inspection on the Sherco plates yet did not seem to find the same roughness on the tabs. I am totally unsure who is making these things for either brand, as it did seem sureflex was doing the Sherco ones, and not sure aboiut the Betas at all. Has always seemed to me to be overall very similar overall in the fundamentals of design between the brands, although sort of reversed left to right. I am not totally sure how all this directly relates to potential cold stiction issues which seem common, yet I would guess that the elimination of the glue in between the pads on the plates might at lease help improve things. To take things even to a further extent, it has been suggested that micro grooving in an X or / pattern upon each clutch pad on the plate may be a potential solution. I have other thoughts on this, yet not sure if anyone really cares!
  9. Was hoping Billly Craig might chime in on this, as I think I recall himself being a recovering knee patient, and the local physio therapist! Cannot recall his position. Yet do not take me wrong, as motofires suggestions are sound in that you want as good of working muscles as possible to help prevent injury. Yet at the same time, unprotected atheletes suffer still, due to the limitations of the knee joint.
  10. Personally, I tend to syay away from this type stuff unless absoutely required. Seems most the modern bikes are designed to work perfectly well on 98RON unleaded fuel. Lead in itself does nothing for a 2T motor other than help foul plugs! A mix of Avgas can have some advantage in bringing up octane levels in bikes that are prone to ping, yet Avgas does have levels of tetra-ethyl lead that are possibly 3-4 times higher than what was once found in auto fuel. TEL is sort of bad stuff, and even though avgas is basically blended to atomize well at cooler temps, even the many aircraft engines that were not neccessarily built to use that stuff have fits with carbon and lead buildup! My Cessna was built to run on 87 octane avgas, which is no longer available, and the thing actually runs better and cleaner on unleaded autogas, yet along with the introduction of alcohol induced autogas, the FAA has totally prohibited the use of the alcohol laced fuel in any aircraft! So back to the other lead fouling crap! Other additives like MTBE have their own faults, as you can WIKI this and TEL stuff to see.
  11. Actually this can be a good concept, yet all up to personal taste really. They look really nice! I did my own based upon the ali tube domino some years back. The concept does work, sort of best of both worlds you know. Yet with the later year bike tuned less aggressively, I have not really needed it.
  12. A couple visited a marriage counselor and each was instructed to write a sentence using the words 'sex' and 'love.' The woman wrote, "When two people love each other very much, like Bob and I, it is morally acceptable for them to engage in sex." And Bob wrote "I love sex." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Under a tree a lion tries to sleep. Suddenly he hears strange laughing. He rises and strolls towards the bushes where the laughter seems to come from. Behind the bushes a group of elephant bulls are sitting in a circle and laughing their heads off. "Hey elephants, why are you laughing?" asks the lion. "We're shaggin' monkeys!" says one of the hysterical elephants (apparently these were British elephants!) "Well, I do that too," notes the lion, "but I don't see what's so shaggin' funny about it." "That's because they don't explode when YOU do them!" spews the elephant.
  13. Good report there then! Somewhat surprised tohear it had already been changed to the Kiehin. Whose was it? I doube the 125 power has changed much, still got to work it a bit, but will go! A 250 is better on the transition, doubt there is much that cannot be done on one!
  14. Personally, I would take the braces as I don't do the MX any longer, and even if I did? Seems if you crash on an MX these days you are guaranteed to break something! The bone will heal, the soft tissues will never be the same, and short of bleeding out from an open tip fibula protruding through the skin, I canot think of anything but the knees to protect! I doubrt this example would be an issue in trials.
  15. I am not quite sure who came up with that thing about being able to push out of a section with a dead motor? I did not see it in the clips, maybe I missed it somewhere? I had to do a doubletake on the one where he hops both feet back for a two, yet it does seem his butt was on the fender and the feet were not behind the rear wheel. One thing that does not seem so obvious about crossing tracks as they use the example of front crossing is OK, just not both!, which also means that a rider can hop the rear to throw it accross the tracks after looping and coming from the opposite direction of entry, then throwing the rear wheel accross the inititial track while gaining an advantage of position. This is ok as well. Seems you can do one or the other, same with hopping over a tape or marker, yet not both.

    Shock Question

Best I recall, it is as you describe and simply does the inner workings. If you put it back in, you should be able to feel it contact the control valve.
  17. I think I almost got enough chrimbo money left to try one of these! Look good, and the price is right off fleabay at less than $100 with the post from the UK. Rateg a bit heavier than my NZI, but? If it is too hot and too heavy, I will drill a few holes in it!
  18. Nt gasser specific, yet still Dellorto specific, yet I even go further to get the thing in a better range of controllability at two turns or so, which means going to a 36 or even 38 depending upon the reeds you are running and so on. Seems with the oxiginated fuels(alcohol) this may be more important. But if they get a bit blubbry on the transition(less than 1/8 throttle) you may need go back a notch.Otherwise seem to make the smoothest full power with the proper jet and the best transitoin to the needle possible. And if you are too lean, and maxed out on the pilot circuit screw, wil find yourself at a loss of power. 30-32 is just too lean!
  19. Is that you in an aircraft? Just fly over and get some!

    Cold!

It is snowey and cold in Texas! It is about -3C here with the wind at 30 knots! I have the small heater in the shed but it is doing little goog and it seems the intense shivering is causing me to have a urinary disfunction as I am findind myself needind to pee three times per pint! Is this normal?
  21. I gotta admit that seems an odd rule! Yet for some odd reason it was there last I knew. Seems as though if a rider kills the motor, yet can still roll through the exit without stopping, he only takes his dab points(if any). Good luck trying that on most any sections I have seen! Basically a non issue in my mind! Never seen it used. On the other hand, they can still kill a motor and restart if balanced while touching nothing but tires, even using a rock to support, but nothing other than tires! Skid plates, pegs and toes will get you on this one! You are dead! Anyway, that is my understanding on it all as best I can tell it. Good luck with your last part, as I do not know anyone that would try it !
  22. Oh good then! So which was it?
  23. Today I made the Chex Mix! Tomorrow the Crab Dip! Wife is doing the traditional bird so I must prepare for turkey sandwiches till new year! We actually got an inch or two of snow on the ground here today in near blizzard conditions! This may actually be the first white Christmas I have had here, or maybe one other? Been so long I cannot recall! Best to all!
  24. Umm, my mistake here, as I honestly had you mentally displaced in NZ, my bad! Now you can shame me !
  25. Gawd, I did still nearput beer through the nostrils on that one! Good one!
