Steve I ran a 240 Fantic in the National twinshock championship here in the UK a few years ago and used a PHBH26BS carb from a 300. I ran it on stock 300 jetting and the performance gain was dramatic. Pretty well everyone else at the time was running the same set ups on there 240's and even Fantic eventually used the bigger carb on the 245's onwards. I know it doesn't answer the original question, but if you are replacing the complete unit, go for the 26mm instead. Cheers Martin

Also, having had a chat today with a man "in the know"!!!........I hear that one of the 4t's packed up in the Scottish due to a resistor type plug cap failing....so probably a good idea to junk this in favour of a standard one or carry a spare! I stood out in the rain at Butser that day!!!!! Seemed to remember that the Honda Shirty was riding had some connection with Derek Edmondson. Think it was given to him to use by the factory after Lejeune packed in ?????? Remember that Shirty didn't have a clue how to ride a 4-stroke in the mud, he was revving the motor to about 9,000 rpm and getting nowhere on the big hills! Complete front end, back wheel and back mudguard are from a Beta Zero. Has the tank got a dent down the side?

Jay....surprised you could get 50mph with that huge back sprocket.....looks way too low geared. You can tell it was designed by one of the SWM guys, the middle and tail pipes, swingarm even the mudguard stays are copys....take a look at my 84 TL320. Martin PS.Nice looking fuel tank!!!!

Bruce Thought I would leap in here before HondaRS does!!!!!.............take a look on www.classiccanam.com The first of the Can Am trials bikes sold on your side of the pond were badged up Armstrongs using the Hiro motors. The later trials twinshock and mono models used the Rotax motors. Probably agree that Hiro spares would be about as rare in the US as Hodaka's are here in the UK!!!!!! Martin

Just checked with my man in Italy and the Garelli motor was a Hiro unit. It was a fair bit different to the Armstrong and Aprilia units, main changes being the clutch case, flywheel cover, and a magnesium head and barrel with a chrome bore. However.....now we have established this, I wonder if the broken gears on Jays bike are the same as Armstrong.....they should be a lot easier to find than Garelli ! Martin

Hi I guess its a Dansi HT coil you have (aluminium cylinder type)....if so take a look on ebay at item no 7969209002. This is the later type HT coil which was fitted to most of the Fantics from about 1985 onwards, fitting one of these should sort your problem. Martin

Easy way to cut cable..........place the cable on top of a lump of flat metal, and chop it using a hammer and stone chisel. Need to get it in one hit to work properly....but it prevents the cable from fraying all over the place. Solderless nipple should hold ok if its tight. Your cable you have at the moment is not much use, so it has to be worth trying and it wont cost you anything!!!! Martin

Domino twistgrips usually come with a solderless nipple.........why not cut a bit off the end of your existing cable and use that!

Whether its suitable for a trials bike depends on the event!!! I rode Enduros for a few years and often entered Hare and Hound events near Bristol that were organised by North Somerset MCC. These were usually won by North Somerset club members who entered on trials bikes because the woodland courses was so tight, anyone on an enduro bike struggled!!!! They still run "time and observation" trials, which if you fancy somthing a bit different, is worth a try. Martin

Hi all Just on the subject of the Montesa 25C, has anyone got a parts diagram of the engine? The clutch has fallen to bits on the one I am rebuilding, and I need to figure out which parts to start searching for. Thought it was a big improvement on last years show at Coventry. The venue was much better, decent Autojumble and a good selection of inside stalls/displays with some interesting bikes. Big change from last year was the number of visitors, seemed much busier than last year with a lot of people from Europe. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think this is only the second year Alan Wright has run the show, either way thought it was an excellent effort and I will be back next year. Martin PS. Surprised you didn't have a stand there yourself HondaRS.....had a man ask me if you were there, who wanted a TLR200 tank.....will email you his info!!!

Just a reminder that the "Classic Off Road Show" is 10am this Saturday (12th March) at the Three Counties Showground at Malvern. If its anything like the show at Coventry last year there should be plenty of interesting twinshocks & pre 65's on display. Anyone else going? Martin

Hi Jay I visited a shop in Italy 2 years ago and they had brand new Garelli fuel tanks in stock. I have a friend going to the shop next week.......let me know if you want one and I will try and organise it (provided they are still there!!!!)
