Sherco 250's are freakin' magic, many times I felt a dab coming but just held on and concentrated and she pulled through for me, EVERY dab I had was just me,Must work on discipline to ride senior class in Trials Inc. Greybeard class has several guys who have been riding trials for ages, this is really the first year I've taken it seriously enough to attend all the events I can, having a blast, even if I get a 5th place while scoring a 3 for the day! (BTW,That's JimmyZ in the picture above,I'm the guy in the red kit in the slideshow on the 2011 Sherco)

Great event, had big fun despite my down the order finishes both days---Brought Jennie along on saturday to capture the event for you guys

Hey,Thanks for being the test pilot for us Glenn, when I get over the Idea that my originals just need to be rebuilt one more time then I'll give Works a call!
-
Me too!,So why didn't Ossa clean everyones clock in 1980,I don't see anything around that period that looks as good as that 303 does.
-
How low is your rear tire pressure? Are you bringing your body down in to the "valley" of the bike to lower your center of gravity? Other than using good trials techniques I'd advise a KTM 380 for hill climbing days

OK,
You got me interested in getting my 240 going again,so this morning I finished up my fabricated Aluminum airbox project, changed her fuel, put on a new fuel filter, swapped on new bars and fired her up. Man,I had forgotten what a sweetheart she is, I seem to have become a little better rider since last time she went for a spin,I recall having to overcompensate to do full lock turns, now I can just flick her to the stop and crawl in a circle as slowly as I want, possibly not gonna worry about pulling in the rake, just will lower the footpegs.
She's such the opposite of my TY350 I can't imagine how they came from the same era...time to cut the flywheel weight offa the TY I think...
My clutch does well with it's extender, the increased lever travel helps me modulate the clutch. Mine releases completely using 1 finger before it gets to the bar and will sit and Idle like that in gear(wish I could get my 2009 KLX250S to do that,I stall it consistently trying to 1 finger the clutch in the woods)
Using an extender I fabbed to match the aftermarket one on the 240 on my 309,same thing, better control as it spreads out the friction point.
I need to make sure I know what gear oil I've been using in everything, all my clutches are working Ace right now. Will cut off the face of the bottle and staple it to the wall
-
My clutch arm plus the aftermarket extender is 80mm center-to-center.I use Yamaha ty350 factory levers, not the Sunline aftermarket bend. Domino levers don't agree with me. I Did the Beta clutch fix labor intensive procedure to all the clutch discs. Adjust the center bolt of the clutch to position the release arm to as low an angle as your clutch cable will allow, this places the clutch actuator cam in the smoothest operating position.
My Kickstand pivot is 118mm from the swingarm pivot center,200mm from the lower shock mount. It sits at a 36 degree angle from vertical. My kickstand is 400mm long. It would be ok to be welded on a bit farther back on the swingarm if you need the clearance to position you footpegs where you want to.
Sorry,no pics, heatwave here in midwest keeping me outa the garage for more than a few minuted at a time

I love my 309,she rips like a motocrosser and I dream of the day when I'll have half the skill to utilize it (She's still got her flywheel weight on too)
I'd check all the electrical grounds before splashing out cash on new components, including the engine to frame and the stator to engine case(requires removing the flywheel)
If you're just fouling out the plug I'd recommend a new float also, they tend to get a bit heavy from the ethanol in the fuel.
I run 80:1 in mine, piston clearance is staying right on spec.
Your shock and resevior have adjusters on them, see if you can get the damping slowed before shipping it off for a rebuild just to see if it's completely dead.
I bought some $5 brake pads from some Hong Kong ebay seller, they feel ok to me.
What da hell, here's mine the day she came home(made a lowball bid on Ebay, ended up driving 7 hrs each way to get her when I won )
Need to get a fresh shot of her, she's got alloy kicker and shifter, grey painted engine,Beta rear wheel with a flanged rim, wider footpegs, replaced all the bearing in linkage with bearing from supply house, nothing proprietary in there. Very tempted to swap my OKO from my 240 on her.

Also the british suppliers can ship to you pretty easy, just call one when you get up in the morning.Phone orders work fine.

201
Value is subjective,I'd say 350 is a bargain for a rideable trials bike, whether it's quid or bucks

Moved mine down and forward, seem to have had more traction than steering, which does seem better now,but the heavy flywheeled TY350 doesn't pull up the front end as well as my Fantics or my Sherco so it's a tradeoff. Footpegs are still farther from the handlebar grips than my modern bikes
-
I swapped a older Beta rear wheel onto my 309,sprocket lined up but wider wheel required new spacer/disc mount. Spent a saturday or so on it and works well.best benefit was the flanged rim that requires no rim strip. (swapped because the Fantic hub had a broken sprocket mount tab) Sorry,no pics at this time.

'Cause Jimmy's bike is like my ex-wife....everyones had a turn?
-
Just bought a 2011 Sherco that has bars that are 1/4" shorter per side,1/2" total. I can very much tell the difference, sucks to go right out and buy $90 handlebars but I'm gonna do it. I feel the wider bars help me get into the right positions when turning without concentrating about it as much, leaving my brain free to pay attention to other aspects of turning. I came from a "Woodser" background where we used to cut the center out of bars and sleeve them to get them down to 28",now I always look for the widest bars when I order new ones.
Also roll your bars forward to the same angle you see on the top riders bikes, feels odd at first but it also really helps.

JimmyZ's 011 250,told myself I have will not have another dab the entire rest of the year
(Expert plate coming off before riding it!)

Thanks guys,really enjoyed this event!

Best advice I can give is to find some trials riders to practice with,It'll speed up your enjoyment of owning a trials bike, you could watch the Ryan Young videos but nothing helps like someone harassing you!
On June 16th and 17th there is a National in Toronto,Ohio,WELL WORTH YOUR TIME to come on down and check out the action,Don't be shy and talk to everyone you can,If I bring My trials bike you are welcome to take it for a spin(I'll be working the event,I assume I'll bring one for transportation around the property)

I recommend joining team Sherco But keep the 240,there's just something so fun about riding them that you'll miss yours immediately if you sell, mines just been down for a few mods and keeps getting pushed back in the cue and as such it pains me every time I'm in the garage and look over and see it
-
Well, actually I rode my buddies $250 Reflex awhile back....had me really thinking I may eventually need one to play with
I'm working a dealio on something myself, let ya know once I get it.
I skipped work and showed up at Ryan Young's Spring break training today just to watch the brave young kids...POURED rain on us and it made it VERY slick...worked out well because I was able to pick up tips that I can actually use myself rather than just watching the team do incredible stuff I never will attempt ,made up a bit for skipping Trials Training Days, which I will attend next year.
I've also heard the same issues about the 3.2F's,but that does make them very intriguing to me first trials event I ever attended Ryan was riding one,he made it look oh so fun!
-
Glenn,if ya think ya need a 4 stroke just buy an old Reflex, that'll cure ya!
-
FYI,my 309 rips like a motocrosser compared to my 04 Gasgas280...turns good, stops good, only issue is it has USD forks, they work well but I'm always ready for leaking fork seals.
Go ahead with th TY80 swap....I think I'll find myself a 300 or 301 Fantic engine and swap it into my SuperSherpa so I'll have a street legal twostroke
-
make him send you a cell phone pic before you drive over to see it,no one knows what model year trials bikes are....probably a K-Roo....
-
I bet Andrew is excited about spring break training too,On Wednesdays they're only about 30 miles from me but I haven't been able to get away from the shop to ride with them,I will try to make it down there at least once this spring.
