I've ridden entire 4 loop trials on one tank without ever going onto reserve on my TXT 280,and it was a fairly long loop(Newark,Oh) I think that trail riding uses a whole lot more mainjet action than trials riding in events. I advise entering trials events as much as possible...And picking up a vintage trials bike for trailbriding that has a large tank(that'd be about a gallon and a half) Vintage trials bikes also have usable saddles and will out do enduro bikes by far for trials type trail riding.

Remove big screw at center of clutch cover. Back out screw in center of clutch assembly until you get 1/4"play at lever. replace big screw in clutch cover. Ride and check for slipping. If OK then adjust at lever adjuster for 1/8" play. If clutch drags badly when held fully into bar do the time intensive Beta clutch fix in the Beta forum. Use a top quality light viscosity motorcycle gear oil designed for two stroke transmissions, change it every two events or so. Automotive Automatic trans fluid will make the clutch work well but somewhere on the second loop or so the shifting will get very clunky so it scares me...rumors of kickstart gear failure with ATF too. Some say you must run Domino levers but they bend too easily for me and break if you attempt to straighten them. I get decent action with Honda CR levers. I run an extender on the arm down at the engine for lighter action.

Good to see Andy Gutish's daughter Rachel in third!

Tell her you'll be keeping at your place to hide it from French Mike's wife

All Fantics are awesome, even the crappy ones

Andrew is the most polite and pleasant rider ever! Hope he enjoys his new ride So do you have to buy him all new matching gear?
Man if I could have 1/10 the fun he has at a event....

Credit goes to Jennie,I was doing my duty in section 1 both days

Glenn,
If it's got 4 or more wheels it's just a delivery vehicle..... (Unless it's paying the bills!)

Stoney Lonesome trials this coming weekend in Columbus,In 17th & 18th
Since I'll be observing I've lined up a couple of "never even been to a trials event" first timers to ride my bikes, may convince a third also. Hoping to get 'em hooked!

Nothing sounds better than a flathead:-)

Trials Parts USA will likely have whatever you need, just call them.

Get that thing running and we should have a Air Mono party at Sam's in New Paris next year! I'll bring my Fantic 309 and my TY350
Just put my 309 back together after tearing it down to inspect and do some cosmetic upgrades. Rode it in my backyard and forgot how much the old thing rips,it'll eat my 03 Gasgas 280 for lunch!
I loaned my TY350 to JimmyZ last weekend while we were laying out Stoney Lonesome sections,he pronounce it fit to ride.
Don't forget to check the air filter while doing what Thedbf suggests,it'll really need all that stuff serviced, best if you don't even attempt to fire it until you bring all the fuel system up to snuff. While you have the carb off take a peek at the reeds to make sure they're closing. If you don't have spark then clean all the grounds for the ignition including the engine to frame mounting area before spending any money on parts.
If your new to trials then if you get the Beta sorted it's "worth" as much as having a new one,you can do absolutely anything on it you'd be able to do on a watercooled, plus you'll have intimate knowledge of how your bike works.
If your looking for actual cash value I will say that I paid $600 for my TY350,it was running, maybe equal cosmetic to your Beta, but tires were unusable(was able to give her hand-me-downs though).Paid $800 for Fantic 309,also running, better cosmetically.I've seen early watercooled Gasgas go for around $1000 running, riding stopping. All Middle-America prices.

I pop that style clamp apart with a small right angle pic that I've ground the sharp point off of. Squeeze them back together with CV Joint boot clamp pliers, which may not clear at every point on a Sherco, those style clamps are common on the Land Rovers I work on.

I must say, whatever their cause was I am not endeared to it now,I couldn't even tell what side they were on! If they thought hijacking this site was gonna make me Goggle them they'll have to think again!

I have to say I really enjoyed punching scorecards at section #9 yesterday, every single rider was polite regardless of the struggle getting through that mess of greasy rocks, punched so many threes it has to mean something mystic!
Scores actually got better after it poured down on us the second time and cleaned the rocks off. I REALLY wanted to ride our section when it was over but no way as I had only a helmet as protective gear and we were about as far away from the pits as possible. Next year wanna go back with my Fantic as the best rides by FAR through the Clubman ride were by the old white Montesa,he just seemed to cruise right through while all the modern bikes were twitching and skittering down through the slick rocks.
It was my first time watching the pros, the time limit was brutal! Much "motocrossing" to the end gate, but no one hit me
-
But don't get your butt back before you nose over the drop,I stay in a normal position except crouched down low on bike until the bike tips down away from me,I extend my arms as it goes over.Otherwise it feels like I'm being catapulted over the bars on a drop if I get back over the rear fender when when the bike is still up on the level,Might not be what's recommended but it works for me.
-
I prefer riser bar mounts as higher bend bars move forward and back too much when you tweek the angle, lower rise lets you angle the grips as you need for comfort without changing your riding position near as much otherwise. If you use the S3 mounts(don't personally know they're compatible with your Beta) you can then set the for and aft to your liking too.
BTW,Make sure your gloves aren't too tight,if a glove isn't loose on my hand it cuts off circulation when I ride.
-
Take the piston off of the rod, rather than the alloy mount, make sure and keep the shims in proper order.
My shocks don't leak at the shaft seals, but at the square section o-rings that seal the sealhead, make sure you source those too.(haven't tried to find them for myself yet, mine just barely leak)
-
I'm running a 50/50 mix of silkolene and mercon synthetic ATF,seems to have good light clutch action, plus doesn't get clunky shifting after the third loop,At least I think it was Silkolene I mixed with, will check when I get out to the garage tonight,if not Silkolene them some other quality Motorcycle gear oil in a light viscosity.I'm kinda afraid of straight ATF in a old gearbox, plus don't want to stress K/S gears.
