Hi, Can anybody tell me if the shock length is the same for the standard TY80 and the Big Wheel Whitehawk 80? It's got non standard shocks at moment and looking to replace them. Another question, does anybody run a 21" front wheel on theirs? It's had a 18" rear fitted but still got the 20" front usual tyre issues! Thanks.

Hi My Sammy Millar seat/fuel tank unit has failed. The bike has been sitting for a few years with some petrol in the tank which has broken down , there is loads of yellow sludge in the tank. The thread where the tap connects had loosened and is leaking. can this be repaired I would think I'd have to cut the base of the tank to repair fully.

Hey 175 guru's, just getting a 1976 up and running again. Starts first kick and ticks over like a swiss watch....but open throttle past 1/4 and it just dies out. Is this the classic "o" ring around the main jet problem, or something else. Carb has been stripped and carbie clean/airline blown out.

Hello has any 1 got any tips on how to put the ty 80 rear tyre on daft question am use to putting the big full size ones on but this 1 is very hard to get on I have it on the rim problem is I keep nipping the inner tube any help would be good thanks chris.

Hello can any 1 tell me how the ty 80 forks get put together I have a rough idea but I want to know dose the tube get held in with the bushes? the rod is just held in with the screw hat the bottom dose the rod in any way get fastened to the tube? cheers,

On another site someone has done some research and posted that numbers 525-000102 to 525-002751 are for 1975 models and 525-100107 to 525-102650 is for 1976 models. Can anyone confirm that this is correct?

Am assisting with the restoration of a pretty standard Yamaha TY 175 into a bike that will be ridden in trials, is the air cleaner/airbox perfectly ok as is or are there performance improvements to be gained by changes or even replacing with a different set up?

Hi, I'm new here, new to trials, but not new to motorcycles. I ride mainly KTMs, however I overhauled a 1979 CanAm 250 last winter. I use the term "Overhauled" because I have no intentions of a complete restoration at this time. I just want it safely ride-able. So I picked up a non-running 1978 TY175: It is in fair shape, complete, but with a few problems. I have a '74 TY250 and it seems like the back end is a bit skittish. I saw someone had posted in one of the forums about modifying the rear suspension to match the dimensions of a Honda TLR200. I checked the measurements and it looks like the swingarm on the TLR is about 1.56 to 2 inches longer that the TY. I have seen a set of weld on extensions for the TY250 on eBay. Anyone have any inputs on this? Anyone extended theirs? How did it work out? Note, I am in the USA so no problems with scrutineers. The TY250 is mostly a buddy bike and occasional play bike, not a serious competition machine. Thanks.

Hello esteemed and revered friends! so i finally got the ol' girl all finished (74 TY250a), with many many thanks to all you on here i'm deep in gratitude. Hello All this may be a daft question but on the top off the fork tubes just under the top yoke there is only what I can describe as a small groove looks like a Letter C or like a small thumb nail any 1 any idea why these are there? 1 each tube. ?

Too cold to do much today so painted the muffler. Zipped around yard with it out a couple of times. More noise - no extra power.

Hi folks, looking for some advice. im currently restoring a 1980 ty175 during strip down I noticed one of the fingers is snapped off on the clutch basket. Looks like a previous owner has welded up a small hole in the case from the outside not considering the damage it could cause on the inside upon start up. Each finger is badly scored and one has completely snapped off. The bike was running all be it quite rattling so they must have removed all debris and used the bike. My question do I need to replace the affected parts and if so where can I get them (tried EBay) many thanks all.

I got my TY175, now dubbed "Pinkie Pie", back in February but it took until last Friday 'till I got it back into one piece ... and even then only because I was entered into the Downland trial today! I didn't manage to finish* but did have a lot of fun, and I love this bike So, phase 1 has been Majesty-ised frame, lengthenned swing arm, steeper yokes, fatbar handlebars, Rock Shocks (very plush!), SM and Wes exhaust (very loud!), and lots of little fixed bits from where the previous owner didn't use any grease on anything. This has taken it from an unrideable turkey (zero back suspension action) to really pleasant to ride - once I got to grips with it it doesn't fee…

mechanical maestros, if you could tolerate yet another question from the ignoramus..... i realized at 160lbs (72kg) i'm on the border between 40 and 50 lb springs. maybe i should have got 50 lbs as i ride mostly road here in NYC but i went with 40lbs on the new falcons as that's what the guy sent me from the UK. i know the 40lbs are perfect for trials use however now methinks maybe i need to set them on max pre load as they seem a tad soft. im used to the thread/tool adjuster and the original step adjuster type pre loads, but not sure what the procedure is for these cir-clips? no doubt its super easy and you're all laughing, but i don't want to damage them…

Maybe someone knows this one? I got the rebuilt cylinder back from Millenium with a chrome bore and new piston,(ended up being a Wiseco piston) but the 6 studs that hold the head on were not installed. The threaded holes are in fine condition and very clean, but can someone tell me what sort of chemical(s) should be used to keep the studs from backing off? I am thinking some sort of Locktite, but I am not sure. Also, the studs have more thread on one end than the other. Which end should go down?.
