HELLO Is a TY250 twinshock engine the same as a DT250 engine, if not what is the difference? So if not, what other bikes have the same engine as the TY or a engine that will fit (different cc etc) thanks Owen

This is my plug after one section this past Sunday (and yes I cleared that one). Sorry about the picture - it's hard to get a close up picture, should have used a tripod. The bike is a TY250A, running 110 octane leaded gas, Bel Ray Synthetic mix oil. Any idea what caused this and second how can I avoid it in the future. By the way, I probably have at least 100 hours on this bike with no problems. Changed the plug and it fired up first kick. Thanks in advance. Alan

Hi, Iv'e started restoring a Yamaha ty175 1976, this is my first bike and my first restoration project. I'm trying to restore it to its original looks to then bring to classic motorcycle shows. When starting it in the past it has kicked back at me and smashed the cluch/crankcase cover. I have repainted it and now starting to rebuild it but finding it hard to come across parts in my price range will a Yamaha DT175 kickstart and crankcase cover fit my Yamaha TY175. I will try and post some pictures of it on its way to a compleded TY! thanks,

Hi all, Does anyone know of any useful mods that can be made to my mono to help it to stop. The bike is great for most things but the drum brakes can be a handful. I want to keep the bike original so wont put discs on. I usually clean the brakes out after 3-4 rides and rough up the pads/drums. Cheers

Hi TY Gurus I have a TY175 circa 1976 - mines great except knackered wheels (spokes missing, rims pitted, hubs look corroded, remaining spokes rusty). I have just acquired a TY250 also circa 1976. It's wheels are in brilliant condition - clean, straight and very recent new spokes Can I straight swap them so the good wheels are on the TY175? I cannot see any difference but thought I'd ask first? Even the hubs look identical? I'll probably swap the forks/yokes as well - I've read on here that the 250 forks are more suited to heavier riders (I'm over 100kg) - any advice appreciated. Are the rear shocks a straight swap as well? Anyone know standard length for TY175 and T…

Hi all, I haven't really ridden for 20 or so years (I used to do heaps of trail bike riding 20+ years ago on my old trail bike, usually more trials (rough) type trail riding rather than enduro (fast) type trail riding) and looking at buying a TY175 or TY250 (or maybe other twin shocker, KT250, RL250 etc) to ride casual trials/comp twinshock trials but would like to also to poke around doing some general trail riding exploring etc. My feeling is that the 175 would make a better competitive trials bike but the 250 would be better as a combination trials and trail bike. What about the RL250? What are your thoughts? If its relevant I'm about 5 foot 7 and 78 kgs.

How do i remove / dismantle the fork legs on a TY250 mono? I seem to remember a while back that there was a special tool required to go down the inside of the tube to lock it then you can undoo the bolt that goes up through the bottom of the slider. Be damned if i can find it though. Anybody have any details.

Hi there, Will a Mikuni VM26 mm carb fit my 1977 TY250? Just picked up a very nice low hour bike (318 miles on working speedo). The original Yamaha carb has some wear around the float area. If the Mikuni fits can anybody please give me an idea of correct jetting specs? Thank you for your help Paul
