Have just acquired a rare aprilia 50 trials of 1981 vintage..... (similar to a fantic 50). It's got the obligatory minarelli motor but the carburations a bit, erm, fluffy! -runs all nice at tick over, ok on full throttle but not so good on the rest. Carb doesn't have a pilot jet, just a main and an emulsion tube. Anybody got a carb of japanese origin (approx 15mm) they would care to pass on for a good price......? Andy. ps. or 125 honda 4 stroke motor.......

I have tried to set up the carb as described in a previous post but i seem to be struggling to get it right, the bike is a montesa cota 200 with a amal carb. The bike starts easily from cold using the choke and once warmed a little i then close the choke and unless i rev the bike it will stall i have tried screwing in the tickover screw slightly but then engine speed seems to be far too high. Whilst i blip the throttle to keep it running the first little bit of throttle seems to cause a slight bogging and then the engine picks up and revs freely. If i let the revs die and the engine stop the easiest way to restart is by using the choke even when hot. I have started at …

Hello there I have a Bing 84 fitted on my 1975 Sherpa which needs new gaskets and O rings, but the price I found online is the same as whole new carburettor! Therefore I’m wondering if: A. Is this is the right carb for the bike? B. Where I can find a cheap rebuild kit so it runs properly? C. Can I put a new carb on it? I don’t know much about this bike so any help is much appreciated. Thanks Tom

Hey all, did anyone catch Pegg & Frost's Perfect Night In, on C4 last night? About 5 minutes of Kickstart, including interview with P Purvis, and some great action from JR on a nice Beamish (chin strap present). It must be the holy grail for us saddoes, does anyone have any of the early shows? Can we canvass the TV companies for a re-run? Any media types with contacts down in that London? Lets have it!!! All the best, Tommo

I dont get the mag myself, but heard they built a really tricked up TY175 over the first few issues, and the bike ended up getting sold. Wonder how much the bike went for, as a mate of mine used to own a TY175 in the 1970s, and is looking for another one, but doesnt want sometthing needing lots of work?

Just a reminder that the "Classic Off Road Show" is 10am this Saturday (12th March) at the Three Counties Showground at Malvern. If its anything like the show at Coventry last year there should be plenty of interesting twinshocks & pre 65's on display. Anyone else going? Martin

I'm waiting for my new Raga replica so I drove down to Mercer this morning to watch a classic and twinshock trial. Mercer's about 60km south of Auckland. Some of the tackle that was there was very rare indeed, for example this 500T Norton ('bout a 1949 vintage): There were also 4 198/199 Bultacos there. This was possibly the cleanest example: Also there was a lovely Greeves. The Greeves was ridden by NZ reigning enduro champ Chris Birch whose father is pictured on the 198A Bulto Peter Birch on the 198A Sherpa Also pictured, the great view from the venue. As well as a few local enthusiasts.

Did a search, still have a few questions please.......... I'm trying to clean the exhaust silencer on the 348. Tried the caustic soad soak x 24 hours......very little if any grunge came out. Still looks oily inside. What is inside a 348 silencer for packing? Thinking of trying a propane torch and burning any crud out. Seems others have cut through the silencer and replaced packing material.......but on a 348?? Not wanting to spend $200 plus on a new one at this time. Thoughts? Want to paint the exhaust system with high temp black paint following cleaning.
