Hi there hope someone can help I've just bought a tank seat unit for my 1973 Cota 247 that has the original fibreglass tank and not the separate aluminium tank. I got it to replace a leaking Ali tank and cover. Unfortunately, the 12mm petrol tap from the ali tank does not fit the fibreglass tank. The tap boss on the fibreglass tank appears to have a 16mm metric thread on it. Unfortunately, the tank came without a petrol tap and none of the usual firms can supply a 16mm petrol tap. Any ideas on what to do please?

Has anyone used the Sammy Miller Bultaco Sherpa T Main Box Exhaust? I seen that it was aluminum and repackable. If you have used it, what kind of performance increase did you see if any? Hi all, I`ve kind of inherited a 242 montesa, trouble is its in a terrible state as its been left outside for years on the farm my dad shoots on. My question is were these mont`s any good and is it worth restoring? The one saving grace is its all original and all there and the forks look to be in reasonable condition some pitting but above the seal area, the engine has however seized up through being stood. Or should I save my money and sell it on or break it for spares. Any advice welcome. Andy

Hi , I have my first LDT this weekend. Feeling nervous. Having spoken to the organiser she assured me i'd be ok; there is a small girl riding a big bike staring behind me and she is ok. I am a big bloke on a small ty175, i think i will just look funny if nothing else. Anyway what should i know? Any tips? Biggest question is tyre pressures - do i have a set pressure for the day with road work and sections, or pump them up and let them down as i go - and what pressures should i use? cheers

Just resurecting one of my ty175's and have just purchaced some new falcon shocks and the sammy miller footpegs, although i'm not aiming to create a museum piece I do want her to be competetive in the twin shock class. I have noticed that one of my 175 frames has been modified, although cruedly to enable the rear shocks to be layed down to a variety of positions. Is it worth swapping frames and if so what is the ideal distance from the original top mount to adjust the shock too? What are the advantages/disadvantages of laying down the shocks and at what angle do you stop?

Hi. I have a 76 TL125 that came with new 360mm Betor gas shocks. I think the springs may be the 50lbs ones and am wondering if I can source the lighter ones somewhere. With the pre load on the lightest setting and all the Gas released they still feel stiff. I'm about 80kg in gear. Is there any way to tell which springs they are and does someone in the UK sell just the springs? Cheers

Can anyone recommend a good way of sealing a fibreglass tank. Most people i`ve spoken to say these tanks leaked from new and I should try putting some resin in it and rolling it round until it goes off but I`m not convinced this works. Also I`m still trying to trace the bike and would like to know who rode 250 hiro`s in the 84 ssdt as from what little info is available it looks like the top riders were all on 320`s. All i`ve found out up to now is it was 1st registered in the bristol area and its number 71 of 75. Cheers and all the best for 2012

Had an interesting experience that I would not recommend. When taking off for a ride I had to ride through a small 5 acre paddock that my wife has taped off with electric fence tape to keep her horse in. Normally it isn't turned on - but you guessed it... I rode up as usual running the front wheel under the tape intending to lift it over my head and proceed. But as soon as my Cota's aluminium front guard touched the tape I started to receive a whack from the electric fence unit. These things crank out short high powered zaps - we are talking thousands of volts. In my panic I grabbed the tape and tried to flick it over my head so I could get away but the tape snagged…

Falcon Shocks I have a pair of Falcon Classic shocks fitted to my Tiger Cub, what should the air pressure be? as they have never rebounded any sense. I weigh 85kgs

Hi, my latest project is getting costly as i have just pressed apart the big end to find the rod is ovaled and knackered. Anyone know where i can get a kit from or at the least a serviceable rod? cheers Dave

So, the Cota has a 28mm OKO carb on it (the original carb came in a bix of bits, and has a big chunk missing out of it), and I have a couple of questions ... Where can I find a rebuild kit for it? What's a good starting position for the idle screw? Where sould I route the tube that comes out of the float bowl? I seems to get pretty full of fuel for some reason, so I'm guessing the float is stuck (?) I'd really appreciate help with this so I'm not chasing my tail unnecessarily

Im trying to sort a problem weve an ossa engine ive got up and running it starts up ok, and 1st and 2nd select ok and the bike pulls away normally BUT wont shift into 3rd gear! anyone had this problem? the gearlever not bent and the bike selects 1st and 2nd going up and down the box when riding it but no 3rd gear and upwards! HELP!!!

hi i have a swm 240 and have no idea how long the current piston has been fitted. what lifespan would you expect to get from a piston before changing it or the rings? also could i tell the condition of a piston with a cylinder compression guage and what would be a good pressure? thanks for any help matt

Just a reminder that the "Classic Off Road Show" is 10am this Saturday (12th March) at the Three Counties Showground at Malvern. If its anything like the show at Coventry last year there should be plenty of interesting twinshocks & pre 65's on display. Anyone else going? Martin

Not much that's newsworthy right now up here as were in the grip of winter snow at my house, there are no trials for a month or so, so I'm thinking about project bike. Just out of boredome I thought I'd post a pic from the "Hodaka Days fun trial" which will be coming up on it's third year this coming June in Athena Or. As you can see the terrain is not the most challenging thing you've evr seen. I am one of the guys in charge of laying out the sections for this event which promises to become a classic. Every year more people are building Hodaka trials bikes. The estimate for 2004 is thirty riders. With this in mind I am planning to build some sections in advance, perhaps …

Does any one know the correct length (centre to centre) for the rear shocks on a 175 Mini-Majesty the one with the chrome Godden frame.

Looking to make a new back wheel spindle for my Cota 200 to replace the old rusty thing!! And was wondering if anyone new which grade of aluminium is best?, I plan to copy my Gas Gas pro spindle bit a bit longer. Thanks Ian
