Hi I've just bought a bike and have stripped it to find what needs replacing, its has a new Domino throttle and cable, as I'm on quite a tight budget I was hoping to use these again. Is there anyway to tell if it's a slow pull or fast pull throttle. Thanks in advance

Hello gentlemen On my visit back in May 2003 I met Don Smith on the evening of 1st Scottish Pre65 day at the Clachaig Inn, where I stayed with my father. It was about 7 pm and I had a beer at the pub, during my father Mark (80 years old)had a nap before dinner. Next table to me where 2 gentlemen, one was smoking selfmade cogarettes. I asked him, if he would mind me smoking a ciagar? "Of course not, go ahead!". I asked the two seniors, what the were doing here? "Watching the Pre65!" one guy answered. "Years ago, I competed myself, but I never won".."Oh, you must have been good, then" I answered, " Whats your name?" I asked getting courious. "Don Smith." ??? "You must be j…

OK---it's been a while, so bear with me... I've noticed that the brake stays on this Montesa are solidly fastened to the bike on one end, and to the backing plate on the other. I assume that precautions should be taken to be sure that the backing plate is aligned with the drum, but would it help to allow the backing plate to float a little so the shoes will be able to square themselves to the drum? I have also noticed that the front stay is made of particularly soft stuff; maybe it has enough flex to allow the shoes to center.

  7. My SWM's drum brakes have my attention at the moment and searching for improvements to drum brakes came across a few references to using 2 pack paint hardener on the brake linings to 'pep' them up. These threads were from afew years back....and not posted April 1st. Seems the linings were lightly sanded down then 2k hardener was painted onto the linings, left to dry for a day, then sanded down again, refitted and hey presto (shazam may work too?) improved brakes....although why this should work no one knew? Anyone doing this these days? (Obviously no substitute for properly maintained brakes I will add...just curious)

Hi, I've been told that a DT 175mx barrel fits straight onto a TY 175 and gives it more power due to the porting. Has anyone done this and if so is it a worth while mod? I've also been told that a lot of people used to lengthen the swing arm by an inch or so to help keep the front end down, does this work and does it affect the steering in any way? Thanks in advance.

Hi All I have a really random and very subjective question for you all. As the title says, what is the easiest twin shock to ride? The reason I ask this odd question is I have a medical condition that causes me to get excessively fatigued from even light physical activity. However I refuse to give up riding just yet and before I do I'd like to ride a twin shock. I do like the look of the TY175's and the Fantic 200, would these be physically tiring bikes to ride? Again sorry for the bizarre question and thanks for any, and I mean any advice Cheers T

Hi I have been off my bikes for several months (valid excuse available). But before my break I was having problems with hand cramp particularly when riding my Cota 247 which has a pretty heavy clutch despite the long arm. So a few weeks ago I ordered a part called Easy Clutch off ebay from a guy in UK for about $30AUD delivered (love our exchange rate)I only got it fitted correctly today and wow what an improvement. Gone from 3 fingers straining to 1 finger easy. Takes a bit of fiddling as intended for modern thinner cables but worth the effort Best $30 I have spent since I bought the compression release

Had an interesting experience that I would not recommend. When taking off for a ride I had to ride through a small 5 acre paddock that my wife has taped off with electric fence tape to keep her horse in. Normally it isn't turned on - but you guessed it... I rode up as usual running the front wheel under the tape intending to lift it over my head and proceed. But as soon as my Cota's aluminium front guard touched the tape I started to receive a whack from the electric fence unit. These things crank out short high powered zaps - we are talking thousands of volts. In my panic I grabbed the tape and tried to flick it over my head so I could get away but the tape snagged…

Hi I wonder if theres any one out there that can help me. I am doing up an old Montesa cota 200 and have found that it has no spark. I have tried a new plug, coil and plug cap. is there any way of testing the generator? also could the condensor cause this? Thanks for any help.

Just wanted a bit of advice on Electronic ignition. I'm thinking about fitting some Electrex World electronic ignition on my AJS Stormer and was looking for a bit of confirmation as to whether it would noticeably improve the engine pick up from low revs. The bike is fitted with points and set up 2mm btdc a the moment and does actually run a treat but I keep telling myself that static ignition like what I have can't be getting the most out of the engine. Any advice from any two stroke experts out there, I know some of you must have been motocross stars at some point. Cheers for any replies.

Sorry if this has been done before, just wondering if anyone has direct experience of fitting one of the kits to a Ty250 - the type with inbuilt advance.Reason I ask is that whilst I really like the low down grunt of my Ty,it is a bit flat higher up the rev range. It is in good nick a generally runs very well, except I wonder if the extra ignition advance would give a bit more top end zap.Or would the 270cc big bore be better ?
