What would be the best bang for the buck? I have a ty250A It has about 40% Michelin x11 trials tires and stock shocks. Would I be better off with new Betors or comparable shocks or a new set of sticky Michelins or IRC'S.I ride mostly rock.

Hi all, I`ve kind of inherited a 242 montesa, trouble is its in a terrible state as its been left outside for years on the farm my dad shoots on. My question is were these mont`s any good and is it worth restoring? The one saving grace is its all original and all there and the forks look to be in reasonable condition some pitting but above the seal area, the engine has however seized up through being stood. Or should I save my money and sell it on or break it for spares. Any advice welcome. Andy

Hello I have just bought a 349 mark 3 in bits.I have managed to rebuild most of the engine but im not sure how to line up the gear selector mechanism to the selector drum. What position does the drum start from and how do all the marks line up.Managed to get a parts book but there are no descriptions on how to set up the engine or ignition timing. If anyone knows where to get a proper workshop manual or could give me some advice on the above it would be much appreciated cos im dying to get on the thing. cheers.

Hi guys, I'm after some advice on anodizing wheel rims. I've got a pair of good condition old rims off a early Gas Gas I believe, the rear is tubeless but is the older type with the spoke nipples through the rim. The rims were a dull silver colour as common on most bike of that era. I took them to a small local Anodizing company who reversed the anodizing process so I could get the rims polished. They now are nice and shiny with no scratches. I took them back to the anodizing company to have them done black, I asked the knowledgeable gentleman to HARD anodize them but he was very reluctant and advised against it due to a high copper content of the…

I believe that the forks fitted to Bultaco, Montesa and OSSA were made by either Betor or Telesco but which suspension company supplied each bike maker does anyone know?

A friend of mine bought a well used 348 Cota last year and rode it a couple of times without much pleasure. It was very hard to start and when it did, took time to pump up and go when you turned it on. It sat in his shed 'till last week when I went round to fetch it. He helped me move, so I told him I'd fix it. The bore was like glass and the piston clunked around in it, so I had it bored and put in a new 1st over piston. It started on the third kick after the new parts, and with a little fiddling with the Anal carb it ran very well. so... with my friend's blessing, I decided to give it a go last Sunday at the Blue Mountain trial, here near Vancouver, B.C. I took it ou…

Anyone know where to get tapered roller steering bearings for Montesa Cota 348? They should be 25 x 45 x 11 (or 12). (The standard size is 25 x 47.)

Did Montesa have difference swing-arm on the 348? I'm rebuilding my Dad's old 348 and I have two swing-arms one is 14 inches from the shock mount to the pivot point and has the kickstand mount is on the left side, the other is 16 inches from the shock mount to the pivot point and never had a kickstand or mount. I seem to remember that when Dad got the bike in England and bought the the bike into the States there was no lickstand on the bike. But after 30+ years I'm not sure. Here are some pics. Scott

Is it possible that the grip on modern trials bikes is wildly superior to my 247? I'm WAY out of practice, and was never too good to begin with....but this 247 has a brand new pair of Dunlops and I was slipping ALL OVER...in every situation...going across gentle hillsides the front tire was washing out...everything. Was my Sherco really THAT much better?

Hi , I have my first LDT this weekend. Feeling nervous. Having spoken to the organiser she assured me i'd be ok; there is a small girl riding a big bike staring behind me and she is ok. I am a big bloke on a small ty175, i think i will just look funny if nothing else. Anyway what should i know? Any tips? Biggest question is tyre pressures - do i have a set pressure for the day with road work and sections, or pump them up and let them down as i go - and what pressures should i use? cheers

I had a problem with my 200 Fantic running 'rough' missing or 4 stroking is the only way to describe it. I found a partialy blocked pilot jet, could this cause the problem described?

(i know these bikes are not road bikes but a friend has just bought a 250 beamish and suggested doing the above!) thanks in advance.

There's a nice looking one in my area...thinking about scoring it. It has a TY250 front end. Is that a common mod? Sensible? Better brake? How would it compare to my 247? I had one in about 1978....but it was a long time ago and it was the only trials bike I had ever ridden! It

Hi All I have two Cota 123's and a Cota 172 which will form the basis of two finished bikes. One 123 and the 172 frame have broken at the front downtube at some stage (and been badly repaired). Were the frames known to be weak and if so, does anyone know a strengthening fix for them? Thanks in advance David
