Pre-65 Bikes

  1. Started by hendrik,

I'm interested in this B40 : http://hosbond.dk/bil-detaljer?bil=292201346# The seller told me that it is no ex army bike, but as I know all "WD" are sold as army bikes, I cannot found informations about a normal B4 version build 1968.... http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/193/82666429.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/9/23403206.jpg/ What a bike is it ? It's a good basic for trial modifikation ? The price is good for german conditions.... so I place the topic not in our forum....

  2. Started by broony,

Out on the bike today and my C15 was struggling with the mud clogging the front sprocket. Fortunately I don't ride in mud too much but on a few occasions that I do the issue with the front sprocket clogging causes the bike to snatch(chain jumping sprocket??),is there a way off keeping mud out the sprocket.I have an extension on the bottom of the mudguard going past the swingarm pivot.Any ideas?? cheers the noo Brian

Guys, Got a centre casing on my Cub that’s past it’s sell buy date. Im looking for a replacement, the replacement I’ve found has the same E4087 number as mine , but mine is stamped underneath that as AM 1, the replacement is AM 2. They look identical but that’s from a comparison of photos , not in person. Will the casings be the same, I’m assuming the AM number is probably a casting batch and the part number is the E4087. Thanks.

  5. Always a hot potato this one. Just wondered what the panel thought. I was over at a friends the other day droping some parts off and noticed he was rebuilding / refurbishing one of the local guys bikes. Now the rider in question usually already wins all the local events he enters but i did notice the ignition that was going to be fitted to the rebuilt engine. I was particularly interested as i am rebuilding a spare engine to put into my James. So what in perticular interested me? Well i am currently running a PVL system on the James and was going to fit a similar system to the new engine but the one that was to be fitted to the James my friend was preparing had a switch…

During a conversation at a trial last weekend I was told that 5 speed boxes are now being made for Bantams ? So had a look around on the intraweb and only found a few references to road racing. So who is doing them,or is it the GPO trying to get their telegrams delivered quicker.

  8. I need to find out the thread and length of the studs that thread into the crankcase on the Villiers 9e, 32a, 37a etc Want to get some new ones but i'm not sure of the thread in the crankcase, i think it's 5/16 Whit but i seem to remember the alloy barrel studs for a Greeves square barrel were also 5/16 Whit. However i have a pair of crankcases to be rebuilt into a spare engine that i feel sure are 5/16 W x 5/16 BSF which seems weird. Can anybody help with the correct thread and length?

Hi Fellas I am new to the forum and am asking for help in setting up my cub. It is all original comerford cub, one of the first 20 shipped to Comerfords. It is fitted with an amal 376/314 carb, I have renewed all jets but can,t get it to run without popping. I have checked all joints and they are airtight. On tick over it surges and pops and all adjustments that i have done have not managed to eradicate these problems. Any ideas, I want to keep the bike as original as possible

I'm in a fortunate position where I have a rigid pre unit frame and a 350 goldstar engine and gearbox. This is at the planning stage and would appreciate any suggestions. Also is it worth it? I could sell the lot and get a b40 special. I'm in the midlands and will attend a bmca trial to see what's occurring.

Hello, just in the process of gathering parts to build another Bantam trials. I have found a set of BSA C15 forks and was wondering if these are any good for tricking up with internals from say a jap bike ? if so, any suggestions for what to look out for, advice or info much appreciated. Many thanks, NB.

We're trying to strip a pair of Matchless forks, similar to those in the picture. Top nuts are off, springs and spring covers are off. The bolt at the bottom of the slider is out. How does the stanchion come out of the slider? It won't just slide out, it is as though something is still holding it. There is a damper rod (or whatever) only a few millimetres in diameter, sticking out of the top of the stanchion, this also seems held in by something. It will turn but doesn't unscrew. I've tried sharply pulling the stanchion out of the leg but it hits what feels like a rebound cushioning spring and won't come out. I'm now stumped. Can anyone tell me how to remove the stanc…

Hi Guy's Just about to mount a PVL ignition stator to my Cub crankcases. Now I have thought of several ways to mount the stator including a plate between the chaincase joints etc. But have come back to the conventional pole or stud (BSA) set up. Now do you think, it is better to mount the crankcase on a rotary table, on a milling machine, and scribe a 81mm circle (pitch Cirle diameter), then spot machine three pads, and then machine and tap three alloy or steel poles, then drill and thread the crankcases to exept these poles, then machine them level to exept the PVL stator plate. Or should you make up three poles and drill and countersink the crankcase from inside an…
