Hi, am working on a 30C engine (similar to 8E) . Just put new mains in the crankcases, and drew the 2 crankcases together using longer bolts. Now the r/h crank web (Ignition side) is touching the inside of the crankcase. There were no thrust washers on the crank when I stripped it,and online diagrams show none present. What determines the 'end float' / centralisation of the crank anyway? Once I tighten the primary drive sprocket fully will that pull the crank away from the opposite case, a quick tighten has already moved it a little.... Thanks in advance, for any help to ease my frustration with this

Hi there Im after some advice on my sons Bantam It has a D7 Engine, standard Amal carb and standard style Air Filter. Currently it doesnt have electronic Ignition. We have only had it a few weeks and took to first trial today. Up to now its been tried out in the street with no problem. First couple of sections if was fine - then started to bog badly when opening the throttle - also a bit of backfire ? Got to the point it was difficult to ride was boging so badly. Changed the Air filter for a foam one I had in the tool box but the problem was the same. Got home and after an hour or so on the trailer, fired it up and it ran spot on (albeit only for a few minutes). I …

Can you help me with fitting a cub hub in a set of b50 front forks? Do you have to make a new spindle or are there other ways around it? Is it a good idea too cut my c15 frame to raise the engine for more ground clearance? do I live with it or go for a faber frame? Any help much appreciated.

I need to drill a hole in the rim of the front wheel for the rim lock, how do I work out exactly where to drill it? I've been told the correct position is four spoke gaps behind the tube valve in the direction of forward travel of the wheel, thoughts please gents.

I'm looking to make a change from modern to Pre-65 trials. My father used to work at James so I quite fancy riding one in Sammy Miller series & similar traditional events with roadwork. I've seen some replica bikes at a few trials but do not know where to go to source one. If anyone can recommend supplier(s) I'd be grateful. I'm also interested to know if anyone builds up full bikes in the way Jim Pickering does with the Drayton Bantams.

I recently got hold of two Cub/Bantam hubs to widen, and then flog the spare online to recover some of my outlay. I followed the info on the excellent BSA otter site and I'm very pleased with the results. However, I hadn't noticed before, but the two hubs are different lengths - after adding 38mm/1.5" to them both, I now have one 6 inches long, and one 6 3/8 long. I plan on fitting one to my royal enfield crusader which has plenty of room in the swing arm, to lose the weight of the standard brake drum and combined sprocket, and also because cub sprockets are plentiful and have a greater off the shelf choice, plus easier to change. So my question is which one w…

Have had a problem with my AJS trials tank this weekend (absolutely gutted!!!!!) Where can I get a new one? I would like an alloy one, but a very good copy of an original one in fibreglass would be ok. I'd really like to have one with the original type filler cap, rather than a push and twist one that Miller sells. Any one got any pointers? Names / numbers and indication of price would be very much appreciated.

I'm considering an inline screw on type oil filter for a C15. Should this be on the line feeding the engine or on the return line? Are there any recommendations for filter types or are all remote auto type filters adequate? Do all modern filters have a pressure bypass built into the filters? Thanks!!

I have a Triumph 5TA distributor engine in a trials frame, and currently have the engine out for repairs. I have noticed a lot of twins with breathers out of the dizzy mounting hole. When making this mod do I blank off the original breather, and remove the associated disc valve?, or do I run both systems? I always worry about water entering through the original breather when in deep water sections, but I have never seen any evidence of this happening. I would like to alleviate this worry, if I can. I have also seen a few bikes breathing out of the primary case, I presume this means taking out the seal between the crankcase and primary, but does this include drilling a ho…

Does anyone know the thread types/sizes on the Cub engine? I'm particularly interested in the fasteners that attach the gearbox casing to the crankcase. On my engine I've dispensed with the outer cover, meaning I've got 10 2BA screws of various lengths, plus two larger diameter screws at either end of the casing. These are the two I need sizes for. Many thanks.

Hi All I need some help, I want to compete in pre 65 probably with a Cub or C15. Is there a set of rules as to what can and cannot be modified, for example to be eligable for the Scottish and the Talmag. I won't be getting an Otter or anything like that but I do like modding my bikes. Seeing bike's like Mick Grants of which very little seems to originate from before 1965 lets me think any thing goes, then I hear about no electronic ignition, no concentric carbs, no oil in the frame etc etc. I am confused!!!! P.S I'm not critisising bikes like Micks, I think they are wonderful and would build one tommorow if I had the ability.

Afternoon All. So my Cub is all together and a runner. Warmed up and tickover set. Starts lovely on the choke from cold and also when warm. However I’ve got a jetting issue. Here are the symptoms - when I open the throttle gently it runs ok but when I snap the throttle open it muffs badly or stalls. - I think it’s therefore when it comes onto the main jet? - after running it for a bit a shiny new pipe is now a gold colour, so getting hot. Im now about to spend hours researching on the internet, but is someone can point me in the right direction or a good how-to link that would be great

Looking at rotating kickers for C15 or Cubs with the clevis pin type mount, everything I see is massive looking steel mounts. Would a similar massive aluminium (6061) mount be adequate? I suspect there is some reason I do not see them in aluminium. Thanks!!
