Hi, I,m building a pre 65 bantam D7. Not having touched a 2 stroke for about 30 years I dont know what i,m doing. however memory says that back in the 60s I saw an article by George Todd in which he suggested 1/16 off the top of the exhaust port, 1/8 off the rear of the piston skirt and an increase in compression would would provide more get up & go. In this new age can anyone tell me if this is indeed the way to go. any advice would be much appreciated. THANKS.

just finishing my 4 speed 185 cc bantam project but not sure what gearbox and rear wheel sprockets to start with, the engine has 12t primary sprocket any ideas would be most welcome.

I'm thinking of buying some hubs for my Bantam. I know Alan Whitton does some but others are also available. I'd love to hear peoples comments and suggestions as to the pro's and con's of each. For example, I understand the Whitton hubs require over size brake shoes. Prices would be good too.

Does anyone know what size clutch hub puller (extractor) is needed for a BSA C15? It looks like a 7/8-20 thread but that does not seem to meet any standard.

So, a mixed day today, the two Tufnol spacers have worked a treat and very little heat is being transferred back to the carb, great, happy days. However, after around 8 sections I get that very painful metal on metal noise. Diagnosis between sections ranged from, big end, small end, tappets, push rods, etc etc. I rode the bike back to van really slowly and after say 5 mins the noise had totally gone. I spoke to someone and tried to make the noise happen again, and after letting the engine run for a while and a few Andy Roberton type laps round the field the noise came back. Does anyone have any thoughts, it must be to do with the heat of the engine or the amount of tim…

Hi all, I only have 2 unfinished projects in the garage at the moment so I am thinking about another one!!!!! I have a pile of bits and was thinking of throwing them together. I have an early Greeves frame ('59 I think) from the essex twin and was thinking of using a C15 engine I have spare. I don't like the Greeves forks so am considering putting some modified 3ta forks on that I have. Do you think it will be any good? what do you think of Bitsa's / hybrid's? Any opinions welcome. Steve.

Does the Triumph Tiger Cub have different valve springs for the standard cam and R cam, if so how do you identify which springs are for which cam. Same for the cam followers or are they the same for both types.

Hi, on stripping C15D engine with timing side bush, bush was seriously shot. Phosphur/bronze bush had either spun or been fitted incorrectly as the oil feed visible (pointing to anti sump valve) had closed to a eclipse equally about 10% of throughway. After removing bronze bush to replace I noticed that even though the steel case insert has machined faces to locate it vertically when fitted in case, the oil feed holes here do not align correctly. There is a devience of a few degrees. To open the oilway fully I would have to enlarge one side of the oil feed holes (in the case I would have thought preferable). Which of the two is less likely to cause a problem, opening the …

Hi, Will try to seal my Burman 4speed ~95%(for AJS/Matchless 1949). Outside cover, replace bushes, for kickstart- and gearlever axles, with shorter ones to make room for modern seals. Have any one of you done a similar mod on gearboxes that requires grease/oil mix? Final sprocket axle is allready sealed, hope its possible to replace it with a modern one. Faces, well I dont know if fibre gaskets are available, either special order or instead use some brand bond or blue, orange loctite, no leaks..;-) Cant see why not single- or multi grade could work after this improvement.

With end bolts removed, should the swing arm pivot shaft just tap out? Mine seems to have a little play and then locks up like it is hitting something. Any suggestions?

  16. Would someone who has fitted a Sammy Miller silent block conversion to a Tiger Cub please explain to me how it works. It seems to consist of 2 silent block bushes that locate into the swinging arm and a spacer for the frame but what prevents side to side movement? Is the spacer an interference fit into the frame ?

  17. Started by unclebuck,

do people use in their unit BSA C15 B40 Cub engined mounts? Monograde or multigrade? Mineral or castor based? I'm thinking of running mine on Castrol R40 as recommended to me but I'm not sure if this is overkill or not for trials (as opposed to scrambles or grrasstrack). Also have people fitted external oil filters? If so, what and where did you mount it? Any help/pearls of wisdom appreciated. Cheers, Rob.

    Triumph Trophy

  19. Started by glenn r,

I'm restoring a 350 unit twin Triumph at the moment. It's a '58 3TA frame and '64 engine. On the rear of the engine case near to the frame is engraved (roughy with a dot punch) "HOLLOWAY". Presumably from a previous owner or whoever built it in the first place. Does this ring any bells with anyone? Cheers, Glenn.

  20. Started by bultaco49,

Just finished a rebuild of a James swapped for a surplus Bultaco. Its interesting having a new 'old' bike and researching all about the history of both bike and manufacturer. There is a very good website for James bikes in general (http://www.simplywizard.co.uk/index.htm) and Bill Lomas's book, which is a great read in its self, also provided a lot of background for which I am indebted for the blurb below to go with the photos. I would add the bike to the garage but the manufacturer dropdown does not include James! Anyway, here is the blurb about the bike and some James trials history... The late 40s and early fifties saw an upsurge of 2-stroke trials specials built …
