  2. I'm currently putting together a Villiers 32a engine to go in the James frame, when it eventually arrives , and i've got to sort out the ignition. Now i've got a PVL on the B40 and am most impressed but i dont know what is the best system to fit on the Villiers engine so was wondering if anybody had any experience of them. As usual heard different stories about the systems on offer so which is the best? I cant afford to buy a system only to find that it's not up to scratch or unreliable. Oh yes dont know if it matters but i've got an Alpha full circle crank with a std Villiers taper fitted. Havent got a flywheel yet as i thought it might depend on the type of igniti…

Hi, am working on a 30C engine (similar to 8E) . Just put new mains in the crankcases, and drew the 2 crankcases together using longer bolts. Now the r/h crank web (Ignition side) is touching the inside of the crankcase. There were no thrust washers on the crank when I stripped it,and online diagrams show none present. What determines the 'end float' / centralisation of the crank anyway? Once I tighten the primary drive sprocket fully will that pull the crank away from the opposite case, a quick tighten has already moved it a little.... Thanks in advance, for any help to ease my frustration with this

Has anyone used Aspen fuel in Villiers engines and did you use Aspen 4 and use your own twostroke oil or the ready mixed Aspen 2 ? Was it better than pump fuel and was there a noticeable improvement ? I know its alot more expensive but is it worth it as I only use my bike a few time a year .

hi there, I'm planning to convert my Royal Enfield Crusader from an Amal Concentric to a Villiers S22. Trouble is I have little or no information on settings or tuning of these carbs. I understand that these carbs are very good once set up, and if it was good enough for Gaunty! Does anyboby out there have any tuning or base settings for one of these carbs with the 250 RE, I also have a S24 and a S25, would one of these be better suited? I know that the current trend is for 22mm Dellorto's but at

Just stripped down my 4 speed gearbox, the bearing on the output shaft seems to have a coating of copper on it, I presume it’s a 6205 bearing but it measures .002” over size? I’ve tried a 6205 bearing on the casting and it’s a slide fit at best, I presume the copper coating is to pack it out, has anyone had a similar experience? Or does it use a special bearing?

I’ve checked the gear ratios on my Villiers 32a motor and it has standard set (As opposed to the wide ratios), does this mean it’s a road bike gearbox or the standard fitted to trials bikes? Also I have a 20T primary drive sprocket and a 15T gearbox sprocket, what would be the best size for the rear sprocket?

Hi Everybody I'm after a Villiers folding kickstart (to clear the trials footrest). I am told the way to go is to graft a Gas Gas folding section onto the Villiers splined boss. Can anyone outline the procedure and specify the Gas Gas kickstart to use? Many Thanks. Regards Sparks2

Hi, i'm just after any advice someone might be able to give me regarding piston / bore clearance when reboring the barrel of my villiers 32a engine. I have been given sizes ranging from 2 to 5 thousandths of an inch, what is the best clearance to have? Also where is the best place to get a new piston and do you need to fit a head gasket, I have been told it is not required. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi. I’m embarking in my first Villiers project. This is a Francis Barnett with an 8E engine and 4 speed box. I’m after some advice on gearing and primary ratios, so here goes - To begin with I’ll be using the standard clutch. I have though about lowering the primary ratio but figure that may introduce some clutch slip. Currently the ‘box of bits’ includes a clutch with 38t and a primary sprocket of 19t. Should I go lower than the 19t? - Final drive I can go 13t/50t by looking at the Villiers Services shop. Do anyone have problems with chain issues using a 13t? - Final one, given the answers above is there any benefit in going low 2nd? Is there some…
