General Trials Talk

General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

  1. Started by phiggs,

Hi Guys, I have just replaced an old wheel on one of my bikes with a brand new one, as the old one was going rusty on the rim and spokes. Would there be any problem with painting the new wheel with Clear Coat Spray, so that it would last longer (over 30 years) than the previous wheel..? I have used this petrol proof spray on freshly painted fuel tanks, and it has given good results. .

Would anyone happen to know where i could find some pictures on the internet of the Youth Nationals held at hook woods in Guilford last weekend? Thanks

  3. Started by niki,

Ive just bought a pair of xc-ting trials trousers and find that the black heat resistant patch on the inside of the knee is rough on the inside of the trousers, which is very irritating. My Hebo's had a lining on the inside of it. Has anyone else had this problem? Does it easy after washing? or should there be a lining on the inside? Thanks.

  5. A couple of weeks ago I stiffened up the rear spring with the proper tools. The adjusting ring was sure a tight one to turn like people say. I noticed that the shock itself was twisting a little bit each time I turned the ring. Is that normal first of all? I assumed it was. Secondly, last night on the way to go riding we stopped at the gas station and I noticed something different about the appearance of the shock. I saw this yellow rubber piece the was laying at the top of the shock. I'm guessing it's a bumper that normal stays at the top of the shock to cushion everything when the shock bottoms out. Is that right? Why is it not staying where is should? And las…

  7. Started by gaff,

Playing with my other toy today, noticed that the throttle will stick open, but only while the bike is running, switch engine off and the throttle will snap back perfectly, done this every-time. Cleaned and checked every-thing, (twist-grip and cable are new and oiled, as is the handle bar end clean of any grime) and noticed that the slide and the inside of the carb (1988 Amal) has scour marks, do you think that this could be sticking with the air-flow from air-box to the cylinder ? Can carburettors be re-built or would it be more cost effective to buy a new one ? Gaff.

There is a new 2017 spec irc trials tyre for sale on eBay, anyone have any experience of these yet has anyone bought one??I've had a lot of trouble with Irc's coming off the rim and not holding pressure in the past but I do like the feel of them so would be intrigued as to whether or not these are a genuine improvement

Am I the only person who struggles to see the red text on the red banner when using the ‘search’ option? Admin people... is there any way to easily change the colour of the search header text to something a bit more legible? Please. Cheers Boner.

For anyone who didn't already know, if you go on the manx radio website and click on Webcams, there are a few around the island including one on the mountain where the course for the two day and the Classic two day crosses the railway lines on the way down towards Laxey- next best thing to being there if you didnt get to go!

Hey Guys, Currently marking out our van for a weekend/camper conversion...to carry 1 trials bike.... Problem is - my bike is in various bits, 300 miles away!!! Could do with some basic dimensions if anybody is anywhere near a bike!!! Length Max Height Max width (not bars) Rear mudguard highest point I know bikes vary slightly...but, just some rough dimensions would be a great help. Cheers,

Howdo guys, can you tell me of any trials blogs to follow. I know of Dave Dawson, Blackcats and Totalshells but wonder if there are any more. The ones on here seem to of been abandoned Twinshock, classic or Pre 65 preferred but will give all a glance through Cheers Treevor

Does anybody know who supplies heat resistant material to fix to an aluminium exhaust heat shield. Something like the adhesive foil backed type fitted to some carbon fibre shields would do nicely but other types would be of interest.

My Gas Gas 280 felt like it was going to snap in half on any jump higher than about 7 or 8 feet, even with a nice tranny. I was told if I sprung it any stiffer it would really suffer on the climbs. I like the mtb trails and natural cliffs and even kickers on the trials bike. I want the bike to feel ok off a 10 or 15 footer, nothing huge but just regular mtb drops. What are you guys doing who are into jumps? Are the guys in Out of Section just using different bikes for each different style of riding?
