I am new to trials riding and i have been looking for a trials helmet! what sort of makes would you recomend and my price range is around

Right ho, I did a quick search but found nothing. The things is I am going to be buying a new set of tyres tomorrow and didn't know whether or not to go for the x lite over the x11. What are your views on these x lite tyres? I heard some say they are like IRC tyres but I really don't like them. Quick answers please. Cheers

Hey all, Went to start my 06 sherco 125 earlier and found it started smoking quite badly! Over the past few rides I have noticed it sounds a bit rough, like a metallic noise and increasingly poor at starting! More on the starting Well, she will start fine from cold... Its when she's warm that I get the problems... but only if I stall it, when killed with the kill switch it will start right back up first kick but if stalled i can be sitting there for 5-10 mins with choke no throttle, no choke full throttle and every other combo imaginable! My boys and I went swimming at the Warm springs Indian reservation yesterday, the whole area is big rock climbs, the water in the pools is from hot springs, nice and warm, big hotel and casino on site, it would make a great place to hold a world round, you can watch some sections without getting out of the pool.

I come from a skiing background where ACL injuries have been common. Years ago there was research done into the specific mechanisms that caused the injuries and out of that some falling techniques to reduce the risk. Similarly snowboarding has a high incidence of wrist fractures and shoulder dislocations, and people are taught (or should be) specific falling techniques to minimise the risk. What are the common trials injuries, and are there techniques or practices that can reduce the chance of injuring yourself? I'm guessing ankle injuries are probably fairly common? Are ACL injuries common? Shoulders? Clavicle? Shoulder AC joints? Facial injuries?

Sammy Miller and Bernie Schrieber have written in the past about practicing and the techniques they use. I'm just curious as to what everyone else does? Do you take flags and mark out sections? Do you start off difficult and make it easier? do you leave it alone ? do you start easy and make it harder? I see many posts on how do I hop, flick turn, nose turn etc, and many club riders loosing points by hopping and trying to trick ride in a section when just riding through is all that's needed, it's an old saying! but first you have to learn to walk before you can run. I know some like the flick turns etc but even Jordi Tarres, and Doug Lampkin didn't/don't trick ride if it's not needed. I have been asked to make a adouble control lever , clutch & front brake for a guy (friend of a friend in France) who rides trials with only one hand. As far as I can tell he has a hook on his right arm and uses left hand for throttle clutch and front brake, His problem is that having two standard hydraulic lever mounts makes it difficult to reach one or the other lever. My first thoughts are to make a single resevoir with double cylinder and lever mounts using standard trials master cylinder parts and levers as much as possible (he must crash a fair bit and breakages/repairs for a unique part have to be simplified. I am interested in getting a used modern trials bike but am concerned that some of them may not be easy for an OLD guy like me to start - particularly when I'm tired and the bike has been dropped, etc. I have e-start on my trail and enduro bikes for this reason. I recently saw a 2008 Beta 270 Rev 3 for sale that sounded reasonable. I asked a friend that has a bike like that about it and he told me it is rather difficult to kick start - short kick lever requiring lots of force to spin the motor. Can anyone give me an idea about a knocking and pinking problem with my Gas Gas 300 04 model? I

My Sherco 250 manual says I should use Super Unleaded, which I have so far. But money is tight and I have a good few litres of ordinary unleaded in a can from my last trackday. If I use that in my trials bike will it be OK? Numpty question I know, but I am new to this lark.

on the subject of levers, I was wondering about the merit of an idea that is current in mtb riding......the current vogue is to move the m/c a long way inboard on the bars, so that the lever is pulled by 1 or at most 2 fingers. As its mounted so far in board, your outer 2 or 3 digits stay hold of the bar, and also dont get squashed by the lever. You are using your strongest finger on the very end of the lever, so have maximum mechanical advantage..... What do people think? Ian

I've ridden and owned a 4rt for the last 10 years on & off I an missing out by not riding a modern 2T? i've had a go on a mates '16 Beta 2T & really liked it Very different to ride and l thought it was good So which newer bike is best in your opinion ?

The last few years have been a great experience for me as I have learnt to maintain / restore a number of T/S bikes following me getting back into trials. I am slowly learning a number of skills which I would have previously not had the confidence to tackle without the help of forums such as this, so firstly thanks to all! So my next learning curve is around a Bultaco 175 which had its first shakedown ride but i have put this in the general section as it is around tuning...
