Does anyone know if the CRF250 piston rings or piston fits the 4RT? I remember the original Montesa brochure saying that the engine was based on the CRF250. You can get CRF piston and rings much cheaper than 4RT parts.

I have a TLR 200 and 4rt and being an inquisitive engineering type have cast a tape over various dimensions. Most notably is that the engine is much further forward in the 4rt and obviously the steering is much sharper. I have a project to fit a 315 swing arm into the TLR (with lugs welded on for 2 shocks) but as the 315 swing arm is longer I need to shorten the front end of the s/arm which is no problem. But as I have the longer swing arm and before I cut off 2"s I was wondering what would be the effects of pushing the engine forward to mimic 4rt dimensions (especially if combined with sharpening up the head angle) Would be interested to hear peoples opinions -is the…

  5. The internet is a great thing but I just couldn't find out how to time my tl 125 k2. I had a worn gear bushing and a bad one way for the kick starter. With a set of new gaskets from bike bandit i have dug into the internals and gone though the gear box. I am all sorted out now but decided to give the ole beast a new set of cam and crank gears along with a timing chain. I felt it deserved the attention. I am at the point where i want to get this thing timed. I discovered that the crank gear is a pressed on with NO key way???? Ok well i might for go the crank gear because mine seems to be in good condition with nice square teeth. I have the new one but if it is not broke …

The offset appears to be incorrect on my bike, in the 89 manual it says the rear wheel offset should be 24.5. But my wheel is 35.75. The wheel had been rebuilt with an excel tubless rim which is 72.40 wide. I'm am rebuilding the wheel with stainless butted spokes, so need to confirm wether it was wrong and what an 88 offset is. Does anyone happen to have an 88 manual or a link to a PDF. I already have athe 89 one, but because there are differences (all be it small ones, it would be great to get one). Cheers for any assistance.

Looking at a trials website (lewisportusa.com) and saw a 1992 honda tlm260r that appeared in good shape for sale. How rare is this bike and would parts be a pain in the ass to get? Thanks, Mike

I'm looking for input regarding adding lights to my new-to-me TL125. I see a different alternator and a light set-up under "optional parts" in the microfiche, but have no idea if those parts are still available, and they're pricey! Can someone tell me if those parts are available, if parts from other bikes would work, or give me any leads towords getting this done? Suppose I should mention that I'm in the states, where the TL125 only had lights for one year, making finding used parts unlikely.

What are the widths of the various aftermarket footrests that others are fitting to their TLR's? I am in the process of widening my footrests (all extra width is being added to rear of footrest to give a small degree of moving centre of footrest back) and would like an indication 'how wide to go'. The bike has a powder coated frame (done before I got it) so I dont want to cut-off the original mounts and re-weld alternative mounts. If anyone requires a copy of the 200 & 250 manual I have a pdf they can borrow. Happy new year by the way!
