I kind of embarassed to ask this question, but I've made a fool of myself so many times on this forum that I suppose once more won't make much difference. I'm sure what I'm about to ask is covered in great detail in the ACU handbook but I don't recall receiving a copy with this year's membership renewal and I can't find a downloadable copy on the ACU web site (and a bit of Google-fu hasn't turned anything up), so here goes: ACU trials rules: Non-stop or not? Now just hang on a sec: You could quite legitmately say that someone's who's been taking part (note that I didn't say "competing"!) in trials for over a year since returning to the sport should really know the answer…

Doncaster, what a great place .. Seriously ... Does anyone know of any decent practice areas within say 20 mile radius, where I can take myself and two sons, 9 and 12, Trials riding without getting hassled by either chavs on nicked Honda 90's, 'crossers or the police ? There are a couple fo really good motocross tracks near us, Armthorpe and Austerfield, but they don't like Trials bikes .. We'd travel further for really good places .. We have a couple of areas that are accessible and relatively free of hassle, but not really totally legal, slurry pits etc between the Pilkingtons Glassworks and Thorpe Marsh power station for instance, and not really safe or offering …

I am delighted to say that Arthur is to recieve a special award from the SACU for lifting the profile of Scottish Trials within the UK. As you are aware it has taken lots of hard work and Arthur has an excellent band of Lochaber members who also help. We have been very fortunate to have run two successful championships and hopefully next year will be the same. Gary is also to recieve a special award for his contribution to the sport. I think I should get one aswell for putting up with them both during this time, it's cost me a fortune in hair dye to cover all the grey!! Sandra

I was very pleased to read about the ACU award for Kathryn Wardle. I have seen her ride in a number of trials over the last couple of years, she is a great competitor and a credit to the sport.

I mentioned the Highland Two Day trial in another thread. I,ve been away from trials for about 20 years and have'nt kept up my TMN subscription, so I,m a wee bit behind the times. It took place in the mountains around Aberfeldy. (Thats in Scotland) It was a summer event; mainly dry rocky sections. I observed at the event a couple of times and just getting to the sections was like a trial in itself. From what I can remember it was a bike smashing, bone breaking event that made the SSDT look like a Womens Guild outing. Does it still take place? This was at a time when trials bikes had 2 shock absorbers and comfy seats. fourstrokes were "state of the art", and St…

Thinking of going to this trial, can anyone tell me what it's like?. I fancy somewhere different but don't want a 180 mile round trip to ride a trial that's axle deep in mud or 10 sections of 'grassy bankings'. How long is the lap?. I'm at the lower end of the novice abilities. Thanks for any info

Off south for some trialing action! Riding with Guisbourgh at Charltons on the 7th then on to the Jersey two day trial on the 13/14th. Will I see anyone else at any of these trials?

Do they have different lines for the different grades over in the UK now? As I seem to remember (possibly unreliably) that there was one line for all, in the early eighties, when I used to live in the UK. This was in the Cheshire and North Wales Centre and may differ for other areas.

I had a conversation with JD (of TMX fame) at the finish of the Scott about what makes folk want to put themselves through so much torture and physical pain and neither of us could figure it out. We both decided we're happier BEHIND the lens! It obviously hurts even the fittest so... what makes YOU do it?
