Myself and my brother were very fortunate to compete in the 5th Annual Aberfeldy 2 day trial on the 17th and 18th July 1982 on the year when they allowed a youth class. As well as a fantastic experience for 2 young teens (we lived in Bristol so a trip to Scotland was just incredible) it was one of those competitions that was a great learning excercise. The event was held by the Forfar and District Motor Club Ltd Last week my brother showed me a copy of the original program with the adult and youth listings but we are unable to track down a set of the results. If anyone has a copy (I know its a long shot), it would be really appreciated.

I would just like to thank the Perth and District Club for the trial at the weekend. The event was initially cut from three laps on Saturday to two then the second lap was scrapped as so many retired and the main burn became unrideable and the climb from section 2 up on the moor became a serious challenge. (I know of at least one rider who took an hour to get up that 200 yard hill.) This then led on to Sunday being cancelled altogether as the rain continued to fall. This was followed by a mass exodus from the camping site as it began to look like Glastonbury. Even with a down hill run from the back of the field we couldn't get out without the help of a bunch of pushers an…

SORRY TRIAL CANCELLED I have just come back from meeting the farmer who has requested that we postpone the trial to another date. There is 4 inches of snow in the parking field, which is very wet already without the predicted thaw and rain forecast. Sorry Mike Roberts Abergavenny Auto Club

Given nobody else has commented I thought I'd just like to thank them for all their efforts over the last couple of Years. Without them many riders would not have been able to compete abroad as successfully as they did and gain the experience that stood them in good stead. They always gave riders who were just on the "cusp" a go at the major trials and in many cases pushed them into the limelight. They seemed to have major success with lady riders, giving them the support lacking from some of the importers. It is sad and frustrating that the "mainstream" press seems to fickle regarding riders and teams. The lack of column "inches" inhibits mention of good rides, the sup…

Why is the licence fee for trials so cheap? I, like a few others are seriously demoralised by the lack of vision the ACU has in developing youth trials and I for one are sick at seeing lots of home grown talent going nowhere because there isn’t any funding available. The decision to not increase the licence fee is ridiculous. Where is the vision and leadership from the ACU to do something about this situation? By not increasing it they have effectively 'DE-CREASED' the money available due to inflationary effects so there will be less in the pot next year than there was this year. I ride for fun but for some of the best youth riders in the country, it could be their liv…
