Aircooled Monoshocks

  1. Started by old trials fanatic,

In the process of putting a Fantic 305 back together and the discs are knackered. Found someone who will make some for me but they have asked if i want wavy ones or just std discs. Question: Ive seen wavy discs on bikes but never knew why. So why would i / should i fit wavy discs and if i do drilled or not ? Sorry but most of my trials experience has been with drum brakes and i have no idea why you would want to fit wavy discs in fact they look like they would feel really weird in use a bit like having distorted drums but i'm probably dead wrong. So please enlighten me before i spend my hard earned. Thanks

  2. This very unique home made trials bike has recently surfaced at a local trial in Connel Washington. It was built by Frank Theim of Idaho and uses a KX 80 bottom end mated to a very customized Hodaka cylinder and head. Apparently Frank made his own frame and almost everything else!

I bought an 87' model Garelli 323 aircooled mono today, road registered on a "E" reg and only 3 owners from new and even had the original handbook with it. It's in exceptional condition, but isn't sparking?? I think the points need looking at?? i haven't messed with points for about 15 years?? any one care to refresh my memory on the right way to set them up??? And any info on these garellis would be a great help.

  5. Now this has probably been debated on here many times but i seriously would appreciate the advice. Some of the local "Classic" clubs dont seem to cater for or want the pre 65 bikes so as they have an air cooled mono class thought i might try that seeing as i'm an old fat git with very little talent so the modern trials are not my cup of cocoa. Seems to come down to TY250 mono, Beta TR34, Fantic 301/303 i've seen a Montesa 309 and a Gas Gas but spares might be a problem. TY250 is probably the favourite as good parts availability and bullet proof but are they competitive against the Beta or the Fantic? Seem to remember they could hold their own in the early 80's but i …

Hello, Trying to learn about TY Yamaha's prepped by John Shirt in the mid 80's. I have one that I know has been in the US since 1985, I've noticed a few items that seem to be different than a stocker, Mine has John Shirt stamped in which appears to be a different style silencer than stock. Can any one tell me what John did to these bikes. Thanks, SB

  10. Started by fergie,

A friend's father has a can-am mono that he might sell. I don't know the year of it. Can anyone one give me any advice when looking at it. He says he has not started it in a couple of yrs. and it has sat most of the last 15-20 yrs. Only starting occasionally. Any problems with the mono can-am's. All I know about them is that they were made by Armstrong in England until 1987 and they had a Rotax motors. I know chassis parts will be difficult to find. Are these bikes competetive with other mono's of the day. Also, what size rotax motors were in these bikes? Thanks for any info you can give me. Cheers, Fergie.

TY350, sat open out in the weather for a bit, crank is stuck transmission is free, I have the rest of the parts minus the wrist pin. Bore and piston are perfect. If it's worth rebuilding I'll send it to B&J Racing, just looking for opinions.... I know, it's a crime but I'm not the one who did this!

A quick question? Does anyone know if a specialist tool is available to hold the inner fork mechanism when loosening the retaining bolt at the bottom of the fork leg? I read in an earlier posting that people have mede them with a Hex bolt welded to a piece of steel bar? Does anyone know the correct bolt head size to use? thanks Rob

  16. I'm planning to convert a Hiro 125 engine from the end of the 70's into a trial engine. Why? Who knows! The engine has six speeds and a reed valve. It's from an Ancillotti 125 moto cross bike. I have the Ancillotti frame too but it's too heavy and wide to converted into a trial frame. So the frame would be some monoshock (or twinshock) trial frame. Any opinions, advices, ideas etc.?

I can't even remember if it was significantly any better than standard any views ??
