Aircooled Monoshocks

I know some people frown upon it, but I'd like to convert my TY350 Mono to a twin shock. Has anyone done it and can pass their wisdom on to me?

I'm planning to convert a Hiro 125 engine from the end of the 70's into a trial engine. Why? Who knows! The engine has six speeds and a reed valve. It's from an Ancillotti 125 moto cross bike. I have the Ancillotti frame too but it's too heavy and wide to converted into a trial frame. So the frame would be some monoshock (or twinshock) trial frame. Any opinions, advices, ideas etc.?

I'm freshening up the engine from my 87' garelli as been as it's never been touched since new, and not sure wether to have the cylinder replated or have a steel liner pressed in instead??? Originally the hiro engines have a plated bore!! What do people think about this???

Hi Anyone know how to clamp the damper rod without damaging it so I can unscrew (I'm assuming its screwed in??) the damper from the shock base. I've tried a couple of pieces of wood in the vice but can't get enough grip. I want to strip an early TY mono shock (the one without the remote reservoir) so I can give it a good clean etc. Cheers Tim

Steve Jewitt was the Mecatecno uk importer and was based on the High street in Driffield ,Northumberside. I think his father may have been named Colin. I need to ask him a few bits a pieces re the skywalker and Dragonfly bikes i have.Noone has any info on these bikes at all and i figure that Steve may be my last chance at shedding some light .Is he still involved in the biking community?. Please either post what you know or Pm me please. Also ....do any of you have any photos of Mecatecnos that you could post up. Ive trawelled the net and there are only a few . With the cable disconnected I have maybe 20mm of free play on the clutch arm. Am I right in thinking I need to screw the adjuster on the pressure plate in to remove this free play then back the adjuster off a half turn maybe? The biting point of the clutch is near the end of the lever travel, the friction plates look ok. Is there a stack height for the clutch plates? Cheers.

ive just got a fantic 212cc, it has a monoshock disk front brake and drum rear brake how can you find the model and year of the bike. i have changed the statement about the brakes in my haste to post i got them the wrong way round the bike is white with yellow and is the same shape as some models ive found they range from 1989 to 1992..

As the a/c mon shock forum has gone a bit shall i say boring am hoping this will spark off some fun.. what was the first mono shock trials bike, not a ridgid, was it the legendary ty 250 mono or the JCM 323 or was there other pre production bikes. What year did the ty mono did development I know pre 1984 as one N Berkett was a develepment rider but in 1983 was on a jcm so was the ty all done and off to the next challenge??? we are talking months days not to sure what do you lot think.pretty sure 1984 was the year....I have 323 that was made on the 17th aug 1983 that i think is the first production bike...as th ssdt was the challeng for a bike what was there???

Hi all Anyone know the torq setting for the front sprocket nut? I have online ty350 manual which covers most of what i need for my 250, but no reference to the front sprocket at all?! It does have a table of torq settings based on nut size, but it only goes up to 20mm and that’s 130Nm!! thanks

hi all i have a yam ty 250 mono 84 and a 77/78 twinshock yam ty 250 new to trialing and trying to learn it all what would be the best fuel mix at the moment i am running at 40:1 all info would be greatfully apreaciated cheers mick

I bought an 87' model Garelli 323 aircooled mono today, road registered on a "E" reg and only 3 owners from new and even had the original handbook with it. It's in exceptional condition, but isn't sparking?? I think the points need looking at?? i haven't messed with points for about 15 years?? any one care to refresh my memory on the right way to set them up??? And any info on these garellis would be a great help.

Wrighty called me this evening and mentioned that he is short of a Garelli and a Moto Gori trials bike for his show next year. There are a number of themes to the 2010 show and Italian Twin shocks is one, he would be very interested in speaking to anyone who has a nice example that they might like to display. Pete

Just bought a 1989 gas gas 250, it needs a bit of tlc but not sure where to get them, I need fork seals and the front brake caliper is seized so may need a new one ( brembo), also general items such as air filter,brake pads and also is there a parts of service manual out there for this type of bike. Any help would be great, tried main gas gas dealer but dont seem interested.Anton

Hi all I recently rode my air cooled gas gas for the first time. I bought as a complete bike but have had to do quite a bit so far such as fitting an 18mm kickstart shaft and a pedal and clutch case to match from a JTX model. I noticed two things in the 30 mins test. 1. It gets very hot, the tail pipe is almost too hot to touch where it exits the middle box so i wonder if the timing is retarded too far. I seem to remember they kicked back a lot but this doesn't. The second issue is the bike has quite a flat spot at 1/4 to 1/2 throttle, this may also be timing related but the bike has a noticeable induction noise.
