USA Trials

Over the weekend our club (Ridgerunners Santa Cruz, CA) put on the British American Cup at Hollister Hills. My Dad started the event in 1971 and has had past winners such as Marland Whaley, Lane Leavitt, Scott Head, Kip Webb. I'm moving to the Phoenix area this month. Where do you AZ riders go for practice areas?

Picked up the rebuilt engine for the TY175 Friday evening. Got it installed and running by Saturday afternoon. We've got a CAT trials scheduled for Feb 8th, so I've got one weekend to get some practice in. Sure feels good to be riding a trials bike again, even if it is an older machine.

A video of us riding in a friends backyard who had a nice section built. There is also a newbie riding a bike for the first time. She did great after the initial fall. Ray P is a great instructor.

My wife got a call Tuesday night that Bill Markham lost his lease on the property he has been using for his schools and events. For those that don't know Mr.Bill is the International Trials School where he puts on great classes for newer riders and awesome smaller trials that have five sections and a short loop.He has brought more people into trials than anybody else I know with his demos and 100's of other trials things he does. There will be no more riding there as of May 1st. His summer series was just about to get started where he was going to have 2 or three trials a month,April 22nd. will be the last on there. Well the AHRMA Trial at Barber is history. I don't have the results, would be great if someone could post them. The loop trail was harder than most of the Sections I've ridden this year. I think we lost two before we even got to Section #1. Sections were some of the hardest I've seen in an AHRMA event this year. Not really unfair - just very difficult. I don't think I ever really got my head into it. I either got a clear or a 5, nothing in between. Somehow started one section in 2nd gear (on a Bantam thats a bad thing). This has been brewing for a while, but the flights are now finally booked. Trials Central is going international and I'm delighted to say I'll be in Duluth this year with the intention of giving coverage at least equal to, if not surpassing, the extensive coverage I give to the UK and more local International events I attend. I've made many good online friends from the US Trials community over the years - stretching back to my early days setting up the SSDT website. In all that time, I've only ever met one - Bentley Wolfe - and that was only two weeks ago and only because he was over here on business! Beave, I couldn't make this **** up if I tried. It is a VERY small world. A few minutes ago I got a call from a ridin' buddy who said "Sendero! Get out of the life sucking chair and git yer *** over here, ya gotta see this bike!" (I'm not working today cuz I'm part mexican.) "Si Senior, I'm on it. I'll be right there." I jumped in the Polaris Ranger and melted it over to where the bike was. There was my buddy who called in the sighting, and there it was... the PERFECT Beave bike. Based on a KX 500, this thing was ready for section clearing. No livin' thing is getting anywhere near this bike, or in a section, unless the rider allows it. I couldn't believe my eyes.…

On the Todo Trial site, www.todotrial.com on the Clasico section, there is a news story that Bernie will riding at an event in Spain next year along with a recent photo of him. The english translation is not so clear but it says he's in good shape from mountain biking so I guess he's going to be riding this vintage event. Maybe someone who speaks Spanish can translate better. It's been a long time since I've heard anything about USA's only World Champ. Has he ever ridden in the US in the last 20 years? From what I know, since retiring, he stayed in Europe, married the sister of another European world round rider, and switched from motorcycles to mountain biking.

Its too hot to ride, so as a brand disloyalist, I though i should create controversy by declaring which brand is best, I am a poor "intermediate" level rider that has owned late model versions of most brands....so here goes: 4. Scorpa....nice bike, but heavy. Rides like a chopper ("raked-out" feel) and built like a tank...you never check for broken parts after a crash because nothing ever breaks. 3. GasGas...nice bike...very light. Rides a bit "jittery"...nice power...smooth shifting (but also lots of tranny failures in our club). When you crash...you do check for broken parts....and you do find some. 2. Beta...nice bike...kinda a hybrid between the heavy/slug…

Some of the USA high lights of 2007. Im sure some of you have some also. This is no particular order. 1. Patrick wins US Nationals. 2. Cody wins the Indoor Nationals 3. Patrick wins some 125 World Rounds 4. The USA TDN getting 6th. I knew they would do good and will only get better. 5. Endurocross. I only went to Vegas so Colton getting a 4th and getting a ride with KTM for last man standing and finishing 16th. 6. Endurocross. Just watching the Trials guys kick ass. All that rode did very well.
