Classic Trials

Hi Guys Picked the Villiers 10e engine on weekend. my first villiers engine. Which is suitable Frame for this engine. Francis Barnnet , James , Cotton , Dot ? , i think bantam frame will too much of work. ? just thinking if i get some rolling frame want to build trials bike .. I heard the Villiers 10e engine used in Cotton starmaker and they it convert to 250cc or greeve not sure. Any advise/suggestion. Regards

Guys Can you help , did anyone other than Sammy Miller make a nickel [or chrome] plated frame for the 250 Bultaco Sherpa 198 series ? Cheers Greg can post a picture later , but just wondering as I know Mike Whitlock did make frames for the TY's & RL Suzukis , did he ever build a Bultaco frame or was this always Sammy's business.

Hi Guys I will be converting slowly royal enfield bullet road model to trials bike . I know in trials bike world 18 inch rear wheel is almost standard. I am thinking of putting 4.0 x 19 Trials tyre on my Royal enfield bullet. as they are availble from vintagetyres. http://www.vintagetyres.com/item/571/400-19--400x19--ensign-trials-tyre--universal--s-r advantage i see i dont need to change RIM/spokes and tyre price is reasonable as well. currently i dont have plans for any completetion. what are the drawbacks of using 4.0 x 19 tyre . > any problem in riding if using 19 Inch type > do i need to make any changes to swinging arm > any rest…

Found these photos of an MZ trials while looking around on the net. I remember a story from a few years back about an East German rider turning up at the SSDT, just after the Berlin Wall came down, with a home brewed MZ effort....not sure if this is the same one ???? Martin

OK folks, I am now looking at a 1978 Bultaco Alpina, model 213. Will this make a good trials bike? Other than changing the tank, seat and sprockets, is there anything else I can do? Thanks, Gordon

Hi folks, I've just signed up to the forum as I'm looking to build up a bike for green laning and long distance trials. I've got a WD B40 frame and a C15 engine but I'd really like to put a Triumph 3TA engine in (mainly because I love the sound of the twins). I haven't got as far as acquiring an engine yet as I thought it would make sense to check out whether it's possible first. Has anyone out there done it themselves and if so are there any major issues i.e. will the engine fit the frame without major mods and is it possible to get chain alignment ok without dramatically changing the balance of the bike? We finally got confirmation that myself and my 3 fellow Taverners members are in this years do. So if you are going down expect to see a Panther being thrown around and at the scenery by me. As long as I can stop it spitting split links out of the rear chain that is. I have moved the gearbox over a bit and bent anything I can see that might be rubbing on it out of the way. Fingers crossed I will find out this weekend that its sorted.

Can anyone advise where i could source parts for a Minarelli motor 175cc circia 1972. Interested in a gasket kit, rod kit, clutch parts, covers etc Preferably UK but if not then Europe or USA. Cheers

I wonder if anyone has ever fitted a Mikuni VM22 to a Villiers 7E spec motor. I was prompted when my 3rd and last Villiers S24 Concentric showed hairline cracks. I had a VM22 handy and a hose to couple it up. I've long held that the 24mm size was fit for road work, but maybe overchoked for a trialer. The carb came from a GP100 so I'm awaiting suitable jets and filter. Anyway I'd like to hear any experienced views, thanks.

Hi All , I have just finished restoring my Ducati . I obtained it not know much about the history apart from an old guy started the project many years ago but passed away unfortunately ,his family hung onto it for a while before selling it to a trader which is were I got it from over a year ago . Anyone recognise it or have any info please let me know .

How do people machine brake shoes to fit a drum brake for full surface contact ? Pictures of any jigs ?

Hello All,Please help if you can, have had this bike locked away in my mums garage for at least 15 years, swapped it for an air rifle then promptly did something else, always meant to get round to doing it up! What I remember of the original Transport for Arms transaction discussion, was the owner thought it was originally a Ty175 but was now 200cc, a whitehawk?, nickel/chrome frame,and oil pump removed and its now premix! Any Help or hints etc would be gratefully received!! Cheers Matt

i just bought a Trials Bike of unknown orgins. id like to know what it it, it looks to be a DOT but im not sure. it also might have a Villiers engine but again im not sure hahah. i would like to know what engine it has so i can find parts. the frame vin is : what might be an H 530350 engine case vin is : A2502DCR 3966

Hi All ; I just got back from the North American Twinshock Championships and I have to say that besides having a great time and not crashing , that I got to ride a work of art !!!! a 1960 royal enfeild bullet ... although trimmed down to well under 300 lbs , and a work of art in everyway , WHAT A MONSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you could plow feilds with this beast ! But I must admit it is the most comfortable trials bike I have ever riden , the stance can only be summed up as perfect !!!
