Classic Trials

Could not make it to the event but need to know what is happening, any one any info or pics please...

Hi, I have owned a Matchless 350 trials motor since 1965 and ready for the AMOC Towcester national Jampot rally a few years ago got it all together with 21" and 19" rims but in a road frame. I now have a desire to make it reasonably competitve in the clubmans sections. The question is what do I need to do please? I have alloy rims in stock, new tyres [they were in 2001!] and a rear frame section from an AMC lightweight plus a fiberglass tank. Your collective advice please. Thanks. Richard in Bedfordshire.

Well after rebuilding my 198 Bultaco engine [all new seals etc] and spending the last week carefully putting it back together and not even rushing the final assy today , the bloody thing still wont run ..... not a back-fire ...nothing ... zipppp ! Plenty of spark , fuel is there and am annoyed / fed-up / going back to 4-stroke & leccy start as soon as I get this bloody lemon going ! If anyone knows the ins/out of a Bultaco engine and can help , even if its "try this carb" I would be so happy to hear from you , am more than happy to bring the bike over to your garage ! Other than that , constructive comments apprecaited ! Going down the pub , Ta Greg

I was lucky to purchase 2 Dalesmans at the weekend with a load of spares to go with them. First thing is; Along with the spares was a folder which has a Puch engine manual in it with full parts list and numbers, exploded diagrams and some other litarature. Second thing; one of the petrol tanks is the fibreglass tank/seat unit. How do you think this will cope with todays petrol? Trevor

We are trying to judge if there are any other interested parties on here as its approaching 40 quid and fellow TC user Pitley wants it to wear on his Majesty. He will probably need a blonde wig as well, as like me time has not been kind to him where hair is concerned. (As a coot) He will be gutted if it goes for silly money.

Along with another T.C member I have been asked by the powers that be in the trials world in France to organise a trial here in my region, The South west of France. Firstly, putting on a trial in France is a costly affair apart with the permits and insurances, depending on the type of trial, closed multi lap, or longer one or two lap trials you need one or more ambulances and a doctor on standy all day ready to attend any one injured. This can add up to six hundred euros a day so you have to make sure that you will cover these basic costs, ie you have to try and encourage a decent enty. I know this might open up a complete bag of worms but here goes..... The Sprite I am doing at the moment has a Villiers 32a engine with, I understand, a Parkinson Head and was once a 360cc. It has since been re-sleeved and is now back to standard bore as a 250 so other than the oversized cylinder head it appears to be a standard ally barrel. The question is; Which electronic ignition is the right way to go for trials? I have heard that numerous James, Greeves, Sprites, Francis Barnets, Saracens etc etc are running well on either Simon Bateman, Rax Caunt or PVL ignitions - can anyone point me in the right direction and advise the different characteristics that make one…

Entered the first round of the Twinshock Trials Championship at Congleton this Sunday. Very good trial with 20 sections 2 laps. Nice venue and very good sections and route with around 100 entries. I think it is a very good idea and initiative to try to get out the twinshocks from the garages to use them a bit and return to the trials of the 70´s. Bit muddy for a Spaniard... but aniway enjoyed a lot. Thanks to the motoclub. Some pics:

have a session on Google and came accross this excellent Austrian web site which along with some great pictures of Alta, Gaunt and Collier Suzukis, has (in German) some information on KTM trials bikes, with some pictures of bikes from 1975-77. Looks like there was a works team at the Scottish, but love to know if there are bikes around in the UK, or if anyone rode one ?

The Strtaford-Upon-Avon Club are running a round of the Sammy Miller Classic Bike series on Sunday 23rd May starting at Downs Farm near Bourton on the Hill. Current entries, as follows: 1 Pre unit rigid = 3 2 Pre unit springer = 7 3 2 stroke = 5 4 Unit 4 stroke = 7 5 Pre unit sidecar = 5 6 Unit sidecar = 2 7 Twinshock sidecar = 1 8 Twinshock = 24 9 Trail bikes = 5 10 Easy route-all classes non champoinship = 23 Overall total = 82. The SCUJ trial (and the Sammy Miller series) was I believe created for British bikes and sidecars competing on sensible sections. Hi Guys, Im interested in a AJS trials bike on Ebay item number 200317965961 it states its an ex-Peter Pykett bikes is this correct? if so did MR Pykett leave the std fixed footrests and the cylindrical tool box holder and 19" rear wheel on the bikes? please cast your eyes over this and give me your honest opinions. I would love some input guys and gals on this one. When you ride at a "Classic" trials clubs event does anybody have a problem with the machines around you? OK not very clear that one i will try to clarify. For a while now we have been running trials for the following Pre70 British Bikes ( in reality British Twinshock but you gotta call it something), Twinshock ( no modified monoshocks) and Pre95 Air Cooled Monos. Now i've noticed that we have been loosing the Pre70 British Bike contingent only slowly but where we averaged 12 entries a couple of years ago we now average 8 and i am concerned obviously. Gentlemen I ride a 1964 Cub in Classic trials in Australia and at present its fitted with a Boyer Bransden ignition system but I am reading all the stuff over there about the PVL system being that much better. So, which is the best system guys and what are the problems in fitting it ? any photo's to look at?? Also the best place to buy one from> Your advice would be very much appreciated. Cheers Twinshock
