Beta

I noticed in the TBM test that Mike Rapley said that the Beta's electrics were still dodgy. Have they not fixed the problem yet? If not where are the weaknesses? I've heard that the Stators are weak and have also noticed that the CDI's seem to pack in. I havent heard whether they suffered a lot of failures in Scotland this year. I like the Rev 3 a lot but would be put off buying one if it's going to let me down.

I need to raise the front mudguard slightly, spent most of saturday clearing the mud out. I lost marks before i noticed it was clogging up and the front wheel sliding sideways on turns. I have looked at it but the front clamps round the fork legs seem to be in a groove stopping me simply sliding them up a bit, has anyone else done this with a tidy result, are any parts available to lift it? Hi all, I guess this is not really anything to worry about, but suddenly (last week) my exhaust started going blue...hopefully you can see on the pic. I guess its obviously? excessive heat that makes it do that?? But just wondered if it means the bike is running too hot or something?? Any advice/ideas greatly appreciated It is often about 30 degrees celcius here, I run a Champion N7YCC plug, and its often about 95+ percent humidity also!!! Bike has plenty of coolant in it. I'm using REPSOL 2T

I was getting fuel leaking out of the tube at the bottom of the carb, so i did the T piece mod. I put it back on the bike and it starts to leak out even worse then before, as soon as i turned the petrol on there was a steady flow of fuel coming out of the out let spigot at the bottom. Anyway, i take the carb back off and took the float bowl off and had ago at setting the float height. I moved the little tab that connects with the valve that shuts the fuel on and off, up a bit. Put the carb back on and found the bike wouldn't start, but on the plus side, no leak. Undid the bolt at the bottom of the float bowl and fuel came out, so i did it back up and took the carb of a…

Greetings from sunny Queensland. I have a little dilema that I wonder if someone else has noticed. My sons and I have 2005 models about 2 months old. At our last trial my 250 started leaking oil from the clutch housing gasket just above the kick stater. There was traces of coolant in the oil so I thought "that'll be the water pump seal that has caused all that". Shouldn't be a problem to fix. When I got home I drained the oil and left it. In the meantime my sons had a practice day. When we got home I walked past the Rev80 and notice that the oil in the sight glass was milky. Probably the same cause? This Bike rides real well and is great for messsin around on, i attached some tassels and it can pick up some speed down a big hill. Judge for Ya self.

Just bought an 01 beta 200, nice bike, but the fan seems to be hitting the shroud, and hence is not spinning when I run the motor hot.. Not sure if it was damaged / moved in transit, or if it has been like this for a while. I'll pull it all apart tommorrow & check it out., but just wondering if there is a dismantalling procedure on the web somewhere? Also can anyone can suggest tests for fan, thermo switch etc. are they 12v devices or 5v? Is there a common cause of the fan hitting the shroud? TIA for any info.

Hi everybody, it is me again I just stripped my carb down to reset the float height as it was leaking out all the time, when the engine wasn't running. I adjusted the tangs so that they were pointing straight at the outside edge of the pilot jet casting when the carb is upside down, it is dribbling eery now and then, and it leaks out when leant to the left, what should I do, will this change have affected the bike? thanks bob

What is the model of the carb on a 02 270 Rev3? I've been to the Mikuni site www.mikuni.com and downloaded the VM Carb Tuning manual but none of the numbers on the Parts list match any that are stamped on my carb. My carb has these numbers stamped on it: WO Y2 and 26 683 This web site is Mikuni America. Is there another site out there? This inquiring mind wants to know. Thanks

What stuff should I pack my exhaust with?

I've peeled the stickers off the frame of my Techno and may put some new stickers on. But on the other hand i'm thinking of leaving it plain. Is there some thing i can buy to clean up and polish the frame? Whats the best stuff to use? Has anyone tried it and does it look any good? Cheers

Hi All, New to this game again after a long lay off, bought an 2002 270 Rev3, but am at a bit of a loss as it's obviously loads different than my Majesty and Fantic 240 were 11 years ago. My questions are: (sorry there's loads) 1) Do I need to fill the radiator up? Where do I fill it, how often and how much? 2) How often do I need to check the engine/clutch oil? where do I check them? What should I use and how much? 3) How often should I change the sprocket and chain, and fork seals, as I see this quite often on nearly new bikes!! but I don't know where to look for wear? 4) What petrol/oil mix should I be using? I've just taken the exhaust system off of the 99 Techno for a clean. There was oil running from the end can/muffler. I've cleaned the end muffler right out and repacked it with the correct packing. It was filthy and thick with oil. I've also cleaned out the front pipe as best as i can with caustic soda, it's got some oil out but not all, but should be ok i reckon. I also put the middle section in the Caustic soda for a while, it started to fizz on the outside of the section and get hot. I've read on here that caustic soda eats away at alluminium, so i guess thats whats happening. I took it out and it seems ok. What i want to know is this. What is actualy in this se…

I've just noticed a big crack in the upper yolk on my '02 Rev3 near the pinch bolt. Guess I overtightened it and hit something hard at an angle during the trial earlier this week. Anyway, having just spent quite a bit of wedge replacing seals, bearings, C&S etc., the bike maintenance fund is somewhat depleted so I'm trawling around looking for a cheap replacement. Are the yolks on all Rev3s the same? What about earlier models, would a part from one of those fit? There are a couple of complete assemblies on eBay, but the description says "from a Beta trials bike approx. '96/'97 - no further model information". Failing that, anyone got an upper yolk they'd like to sel…

Can anyone help? I have a Zero 3 which was running fine, then I pulled the clutch in and it just died. Have not been able to start it since, have a spark but it seems weak. Would be grateful for any help. I bought the bike from a friend a couple of weeks ago and they had no problems. Also does anyone know where I can go to practice in northants, this is my first trial bike and I'm not very confident yet, also cost a consideration as I am 14.

Hi i just bought a 99 Beta Techno(my first trials bike), it runs ok but has been sat around for a while so i thought i'd change the oil, clean the filter, spark plug etc etc. I know a bit about 4 stroke engines, but i've never owned a 2 stroke engined bike before and never got a manual with the bike. I've looked through all the threads on the Beta forum and have found some really helpfull information. However, i'm a little confused. Is there a difference between engine oil and gear oil? I bought a litre of Castrol TTS, undid the allen key bolt on the left hand side of the engine and poured in 550ml. Is this the right oil and have i put it in the right place? Thanks
