hey folks, Gunna be joining in at my first trial on sunday, I have downloaded and printed entry forms but not sure how to make the payment, Can i send a cheque and who do i make it payable to?? Also, How do i know what route and class to choose if i have never done a trial, Im thinking intermediate because i have been told novice is too easy! Is this tru?

A long explanation – with a short shelf life. As a starting point for any future debate I feel it is quite important to look at the ACU structure – in a sort of historical way if you like. Given the New weight limit in the WTC and the 290cc limit on 2 strokes presumably to make Honda's, (I am not going to refer to them as Montesa's any more), more competitive what is the situation in the UK? Like many My Son has bought a 300CC bike with the idea of entering a few Nationals. Is it now Persona non grata or do we assume that any bike sold in the UK is OK for the BTC?

I’m hoping to start riding trials soon, but I don’t understand how the ACU works with centre groups and A , B (or open) event status? Can I ride in any group, or just the one my club is in? And can I ride in the AMCA trials as well? Could someone explain? Thank you

In view of the attached link Here. What amount of funding does the ACU or indeed the sport of trials recieve from the National Lottery, or is the funding only intended for naughty people?

I believe the British Trials Championship forum went ahead on 12 Jan. What was said, decided, as there has been no mention of it since then. has anything changed or is it just a case of as you were.?

With the change of name to this championship I with others was concerned if there were to be many rule changes, I spoke to the acu stall at the dirt bike show, and as I understand, the rules are very similar to last year. They are to introduce a over 60s class ??. Class F. They will give oganizers the chance to have 50% of the sections with an alternative easier route. classes B ( twinshock)... C ( aircooled mono),,,, and over 40 ... to ride harder route, all others to ride 50/50 route. Not quite sure how many years its been since I had an ACU licence? maybe 4? so renewing it wasn't something I was particularly looking forward to doing based on previous renewals or new licences. I have been very impressed though at the new online system which from start to finish only took possibly 3-4 minutes tops!!! well done the ACU, easy to reregister, brought up all my old info (including a dodgy photo)and reapplying was effortless.

Hi All, I've just returned to trials after 12 years away and brought a couple of shiney newbies with me. I think we need to look at the steps newbies have to go through and ask if there's a better way. The three of us have recently acquired bikes around November time. 2 of us are Cambs area, one is Gosport on the south coast. I had ridden many trials in the early-mid 90s and so had a fair clue as to what to do. My newbies were relying on me. In particular, Nicks_TR34 not only had no real clue what to do, but had no 'feel' for what was going on in his area. What we decided to do is to join Cambridge Matchless for 2009 and also Thames MCC. Just picked up this comment from a previous post about 'cheating' in a Youth A&B event .... I dont condone cheating of any description but you can see why this comment above is an issue. Nowadays there are a fair few of British youth riders riding under FIM rules in Europe and World events and then having to switch when in the UK. I am not arguing for or against FIM rules in this post, but would just like to hear the ACU's view on this subject please?

Great explanation of how things work at the ACU John, enlightend me for one. Can you give a run down of what happens to all the tenners that go into the kitty via the licence and how the money is distributed back into the sport and what for.

Mid way through last year, the ACU invited all clubs to send their representatives to a trials forum at Rugby. Sadly the event was cancelled due to lack of interest. I had my name down to go and amongst the items that the Stratford-Upon-Avon club wished to raise was the idea of a common set of colours for all trials. Our proposal was put forward in writing anyway. As we know, most events have two routes, many have three and some have more. Confusing and less than ideal I agree, but this is how it is. Could someone please give me an explanation on 'what marks the competitor would loose' in the following situation: The trial was being run under TSR22a method of marking rules. A competitor entered the section and halfway through slipped into a deep rut with his front wheel. He landed with the majority of his right leg on the ground. His legs were still astride the machine. The handlebar touched the ground. He was able to push himself up without taking his hands of the handlebars and continued to ride the section to the end cards. As an observer what mark would you have given him and give an explanation why/how you came to the decision.

hi, I'm not sure, but I thought I heard a discussion a couple of weeks ago that the ACU was considering working with an insurance company (Carole Nash?) to provide an insurance policy for trials bike, allowing them to get a tax disc, to compete in road trials. This seems like a good idea, especially for those who may not have a bike insurance policy for road bike. Is this being considered by the ACU ? A policy which covers the limited amount of use and distance travelled should be more cost effective than a general bike policy. Just picking up on the story about the Skelder Bank round of the Maxxis British MX Champs, where a number of officials made an error of judgement concerning a protest and were later suspended and fined (plus costs) for their error. I appreciate that we all agree to abide by the rules of the ACU and the National Sporting code lays out a structure of penalties including fines, so we can't complain if we make a mistake and end up getting fined..... But, is it a bit harsh to fine people who are unpaid volunteers?

Having recently moved from england to scotland I was just wondering why there is such a big difference between the ACU/SACU trials registration? Is it due to numbers?? as there is obviously more clubs/riders to spread the cost south of the border or is it land policy? or something else? I must add I don't mind in the slightest paying the fee as it works out at less than a meesley £1 a week. Also how do the enduro guys manage to charge £40 for an event when us trials guys manage it for £10???? again I really appreciate all the work everyone puts in to all these events im just curious (not in a gay way). Hello, I'm looking into holding a three round championship which would have enduro bikes and trials riders riding in this competition together. The event will be speed related, with sections (riders will be able to walk the sections) and riders will be timed to see who is quickest to finish. The sections will be marked as per the trials marking system (TSR) with a slight difference. For example if a rider were to put his/her foot down in a trial once then this would normally be a one mark loss, the difference is instead of a one mark loss like in a trial the one foot down in this competition would result a one minute time penalty added to there overall finishing time.
