OSET Electric Trials Bikes

  1. Started by Lefebvre,

My friend has an electric 2017 OSET 24.0 RACE and is not very happy with the response of the bike. Did he make a bad purchase for a trial bike?

  2. Hello from Scotland, I have just acquired 2x 20.0s and now realise that I'll be needing a second set of batteries. I'm not yet ready for lipo. I see I can buy from Oset at £39.99, or from intamicro https://www.intamicro.co.uk/p-653-rec10-12-yuasa-battery-12v-10ah.aspx for £24.99. probably elsewhere too. As I am buying two sets, the price difference is significant. Anyone know a reason not to go with the cheaper supplier? Also, what is the perceived wisdom regarding off-bike charging? I was thinking of buying a socket like on the bike and simply attaching it to the batteries. Can anyone point me to a source for the socket? Can I balance the current and future batt…

  3. Our 2007 OSET 16 24V has seen a bit of use now and has had a few electrical component issues along the way, but has been quite sturdy mechanically until the drive pin for the motor sprocket sheared recently. My 21kg son was riding in a manner I consider quite normal at the time, practicing crossing timber railway sleepers on a gentle uphill slope. I know it is quite a simple job to replace the drive pin, but am wondering if it is a common failure or not, to help me decide whether I should use a different type of drive pin or the same again. The drive pin that it came with from new is a 3mm diameter steel roll pin.

My 2 year old is bike mad. He's got a balance bike and loves it rides it so confidently. So we've just got him an oset, he's still a bit small to hold it up on his own so we've put stabilisers on till he grows a little and gets used to it. He loves it and is doing really well. Here's some pics

with the bike dialed in to have a low top speed, i find the throttle impossibly sensitive for a 3 year old - for him it is basically a digital on and off switch - providing a near instant 0-5mph acceleration. great torque but intimidating for a 3 year old. I would have hoped that with 2007 electronic technology the throttle reponse would be smooth and linear over the length the throttle turn. Clearly, this isn't so easy to do. Anyone have ideas for a work around?

  6. hi there , i just bought my son a 2016 OSET 16 and need to get new batteries. anyone have advice / info for a battery upgrade? where they bought how much, installations etc i am new to all this and learning, want better performance and batteries to last more than 40 mins etc. https://www.kijiji.ca/v-ebike/kitchener-waterloo/ebike-36v-10ah-lithium-ion-with-bms/1495463918?undefined would this battery work well? I know some people thinking of getting their young son an Oset as I have suggested it may be more suitable than a petrol engined bike.. They have no mechanical knowledge and may get problems from neigbours etc with noise from a petrol engined bike as well as starting difficulty and risk of burns. Anyone any general comments on Oset reliability or other factors that they should know What is run time on a charge How long do batteries last Do batteries loose capacity / running time after a year or two old Cheers

I recently had yet another set of off-the-shelf batteries blow up (overheat and swell, not explode). This time was a set of three 10.5ah SLA batteries, that I believe are PowerSonic brand. But this is the 3rd set in about 3 years: First a set of 8ah's on our 12.5 model (w/ a stock Oset charger). Then a set of 10.5's on a 36v model (I then replaced the Oset charger with an ebay 36v charger) Then this set of 10.5s on one of our two 36v models. To the best of my knowledge, I haven't left these things on charge more than overnight, or 24 hours. I tested both of the two chargers we have (1 Oset and the one I bought on ebay) and both are putting out about 41v. There…

Hi all - We just picked up one of the 12.5" models for our 3 year old after months (and months and months) of searching for a gently used bike. The rear tire is flat and needs a new tube, I know Oset sells 'em on their site, but I was hoping to get one at a local bike shop and not wait for shipping. That said, I don't know what tube to get - there are multiple widths available...12.5 x 1.75, 12.5 x 2.25, 12.5 x 2.5...etc. I know the rim width is 2.4"...not sure which tube to get. Thanks in advance for any help

After reading a few other posts on this topic I understand there are a few niggles with the oset throttle control. My problem though sounds a bit different to others who have posted. Having adjusted the 'throttle response' adjuster throughout it's range; when the throttle is chopped the bike continues to pull or drive forward for anything between 1 and 4 to 5 seconds depending on 'throttle response' adjuster setting. Having had the oset 12.5 with an ordinary petrol engine type throttle response my 5 year old has found his new bike uncontrollable and to be honest unrideable. Can anyone confirm it has a fault or are there adjustments elsewhere not listed in the manual.

Posting here as there doesn't appear to be a Mecatecno section. Is @Andystill running the show?🤩 I bought a Mecatecno T08 for my 4 year old grandson, it came from an auction (unseen, impulse buy!) and has cleaned up really well for an old bike. Replaced both levers, unseized the front forks and cleaned all the electrical connections ready for two new 9.0Ah batteries, which are on order. The only things I need now are a charger and I believe it might be missing a return spring for the front brake. Just wondering whether parts are interchangeable with other electric bikes, does anybody know. I can't find any information on the UK importer except that it used to be…

Hi, I am using the motor from a Oset 20R for a project bike (started as a kart but after getting the motor it is too perfect for the bike project). I need to reverse the rotation of the shaft, which is easy enough but throws off the timing. Does anyone have info about timing these motors? Thanks

I purchased the 16.5 for my grandson a few months ago and just rode it for the 1st time last week. I seemed fine an we rode around the back yard until the batteries started to weaken. I put it on the charger and when I got it out tonight it there was no power. It would barely carry my 50 lb. grandson around the yard. I put it back on the charger and when the light turned ""green" I tried again, same results. I get my voltmeter and 1 battery checked 12.98 volts and the other checked 13.12. I lost all the paper work during a recent move so I'm in the dark on further troubleshooting. So - does anyone have a scanned copy of the original owners manual and has anyone…

Hi all. I have just bought 2 sets of soft Renthall grips, 1 for the 12.5 and 1 for the 16. As a relative novice to this, what is the best way of removing the old standard grips? The main one that I am confused about is the throttle grip. Many thanks

Hello, I was hoping someone might be able to write me a shopping list for what I need to install one of those controllers to enable smooth power delivery from a standstill. I will hopefully be getting someone else to install the controller as electrics really aren't my bag baby. Looking at my local bike shop, BVM or perhaps just an auto electrician at a push. If someone can oblige in time for the unwrapping on Christmas day that would be great. Regards, Chris.

Hi guys My boy (2.5yrs) is a true trials rider. He HAS TO ride through every bit of mud he can find. How do I clean his bike? Im presuming that I cant hose the bike down due to the electronics. Please dont say use a toothbrush.
