Hi, I hope some of you more knowledgeable Bultaco owners can help. i have a model 90 that has been fully rebuilt and it’s fitted with 36mm Mikuni carburetor and new electronic ignition. Its an absolute pig to start, but when started the motor sounds strong and will happily rev to 6000 and will tick over, but when riding on the road the engine runs very erratically and will not push through 5000 revs. The engine after 1-2 miles will start to misfire and run really badly. I have changed the main jet, pilot jet and needle with no joy. I now wondering if I have a dodgy ignition system ? Any advice? thanks Mark

I thought these might be of some interest to some of you. They were on a sight named extreme yz and I came across them when looking for a set of bars for my IT175.They are also available from Dennis Kirk. They are not cheap (85.00 us),but I think I might get a set to try on the Sherpa T.They raise the bars 2" and can be rotated forward.

A funny thing happened over the weekend, I was on a green lane and as we slowed down at the end of the track an elderly chap came out of a house, flagged me down and asked if I'd like to buy a bike (like you do). Of course it's always impossible to resist and he took me into his shed and showed me a tatty old Sherpa which he said had been stored for the past couple of decades by his brother who had passeed away. The bereaved's family were going to put the bike in a skip but thankfully he stopped them doing that and rescued it. I'm not too well up on Sherpas and it's a bit of a mystery to me, the chap thinks it might be a Sammy Miller High Boy but I'm not so sure. The…

Has anyone purchased one of these, if so did it fit allright, holes align etc. http://www.todotrial.com/ttshop/especiales-clasicas.htm# They appear to offer more width of coverage/protection than the std shield is this so. I also seem to recall an aftermarket shield that was turned or curved round at the sides, does anyone know if they are still available.

I haven't operated a two stroke for about twenty years. Prior to that I used bean oil almost exclusively...on a TM 250, a RH 67..Bultaco Lobito...Montesa Impala...and lastly a Kawasaki Trials Bike...a KT 250...now I'm back in the two stroke business with a Bultaco Campera. Should I still use bean oil...at 20-1, could I use a leaner mixture 32-1 or should I stick to synthetic at 30-1 or 50-1??? Thanks in advance Mike

Hi. Does anyone know if the bearing and seal sizes ie mains and clutch, gear selecter etc, are common for all the 5 speed sherpa crank cases throughout the years.

Hi again all. Back again so soon. I am literally about to order all the bearings and seals for my 198a and I thought what the heck why not fit a roller bearing to the timing side like many others have already successfully done. An extra £30 or so in percentage terms is not much. So my question is what type of roller bearing to buy? What type have you all fitted? I note that DaveyS posted a similar question back on 26th June and he has used an SKF NJ205 ECP/C3. This type of bearing allows free float in one direction but not in the other and fitted with the flange against the flywheel means that if the crankcase expands more than the crank itself, which it probabl…

Hello to all I've just purchased a bultaco 159 project, which needs a hole lot of work. It's stripped now and I'm working out what I need. I think it's a 350 can anyone tell me the piston diameter so I can work it out for sure. Thanks Ben

yesterday fixed ignition at my 199a . I removed kickstarter and case. started engine without left case, to watch rotating flywheel with marks on it and use a flash gun. (never had a problem with that) several times kicked back. I have a new cylinder on it,so it really has compression... Then with right ignition try to assemble case, but kick start shaft was very hard to move and didn't come back. Without screws in the case kickstart shaft could be moved but you could see it was eccentric . I tried to bent it back a little, with heat. no way and didn't want to break the engine housing. I never thought this could happen. bent shaft? ...any ideas?

I’m currently renovating a 1979 325 Sherpa which has the small air box with the door on the side. I be heard a lot of negativetity over the years about them being to small. Would a later 199b be better? Will it fit? I intend to run a 26mm Mikuni on this bike. What do you guys use? Many thanks.

Any thoughts on the best airbox? I would guess they got better with each new release - so I assume the 199/198b are best?. I ask the question because there is an ex Reynolds bulto on ebay from 1983 with the older (mid 70's) airbox fitted - the one with the side mounting foam filter. They must've fitted it for a reason - is it better? Bigger volume?? I'd say its easier to service the filter but that wouldn't have been an issue on a works bike I wouldn't have thought.....

Hi All, There are a couple of electronic ignition systems available for the Sherpa, but which is best? Has there ever been a test or are they pretty similar? I would probably opt for a system from Bultaco UK because the guys have been brilliant for parts, help and advice during my rebuild, but what about Rex Caunt? I've seen systems from the States with lightened flywheels which I think I wouldn't want. Or do I? I've read comments here which indicate quite a change in engine characteristics, is that accurate? I don't need lighting. Lots of questions, your thoughts are appreciated. Many thanks.

The Sherpa had a few frames during its lifetime but I have often wondered if there was a single model that handled best of all or was every model change better than that previous?
