Bultaco

Hi all, Could anyone tell me should there be some sort of seal/rubber betwwen the rear exhaust section and the middle silencer on a 78 Sherpa. If not what stops gasses leaking from that joint. My bike leaks from there but because I am out of country I havent had a chance to strip it yet. It would be handy to know so I can order parts ready for when i get home. Cheers Marty

Long story cut short... I bought a lovely shiny Bultaco about 10yrs ago. Been in the shed most of its life but now thinking of getting it registered for the road, it's an age thing!! I have the original green log book and an MOT from 2001 to 2002 the green log book states that the engine number M4904576 and I can read it on the engine. The frame has been powder coated so I can't read the frame number, but all the documents (old green log book) say that it's chassis frame or car No is SM145 and it says the same on the MOT I have. Do I have to sand the frame back to check that this is genuine before I can apply for V5 or is SM145 on the docs a true frame number as I can't f…

Good Day Gentlemen, After reading the post in regards to the pre-65 Model 10, I thought I'd share this with you all. I found this early Bultaco local to me this morning. It looks like a Sherpa N. It has all original hardware and fittings except for the throttle, fenders and silencer. The front fender is actually a piece of all that is left of the original (I can tell by the fibreglass type) but reversed and a rubber flap added. What I find really interesting is that the frame serial number stamped under the seat behind the tank and is a very early Sherpa S frame - B-300087. That is a low number frame, has to be 1961ish. It seems to have all Sherpa N components exc…

Hi, I hope some of you more knowledgeable Bultaco owners can help. i have a model 90 that has been fully rebuilt and it’s fitted with 36mm Mikuni carburetor and new electronic ignition. Its an absolute pig to start, but when started the motor sounds strong and will happily rev to 6000 and will tick over, but when riding on the road the engine runs very erratically and will not push through 5000 revs. The engine after 1-2 miles will start to misfire and run really badly. I have changed the main jet, pilot jet and needle with no joy. I now wondering if I have a dodgy ignition system ? Any advice? thanks Mark

Hi all, just rebuilding my Frontera 152 engine, I'm using the Inmotion Italkit piston and crank set, new rod too. There are two piston rings - a chrome one and a black one. Which one is the upper and which is the lower? I've emailed Inmotion but sounds like he's super busy... and can't reply before Tuesday anyway... just trying to get a headstart. Ta.

Hi guys I have spent 2011, buying bits and pieces to finally build up a modified/competative bultaco and have been trying to find out what modifications work and dont work. My questions are what are the best hubs to use for braking performance? I have got steel linners in my 159 and they produce ok stopping power but nothing compared to some TYs, honda, fantics and certian pre 65 scotish winning bikes i know. Has any one tried a different exhaust on there bikes? the bultaco ones seem heavy take up a lot of room and get a lot of mus stuck between it and the rear tyre......i was think a yammaha ty pipe work may work better. last of all..... the clutch. my clutch work…

I’m currently renovating a 1979 325 Sherpa which has the small air box with the door on the side. I be heard a lot of negativetity over the years about them being to small. Would a later 199b be better? Will it fit? I intend to run a 26mm Mikuni on this bike. What do you guys use? Many thanks.

I am restoring a Model #138 and am searching for an exhaust system for this bike. I am most interested in finding the the header pipe, as I can source the intermediate and the final piece from InMotion or other vendors. If anyone can assist I would be very grateful.

Hi all, a strange request I know but I'm miles away from the bike for a few days. What are the dimensions of the Bultaco logo on the tank of a Sherpa - 92 if it makes any difference - which i don't think it does. The word 'Bultaco' specifically, and more specifically, the height of the letters. Thanks for your help Paul

So I took apart my Metralla 5 speed motor a few months ago. Just ordered parts and am ready to put back together. I pressed the clutch side crank bearings on the shaft and into the case. For the crank seal there is an aluminum piece that the seal fits into and a steel race that goes over the crankshaft and that the seal rides against. Should this race fit into the aluminum seal holder flush or does is there a space?
