My old Tiger Cub has been in my possession for 31 years , however when I moved out of my family home 25years ago, I couldn't find the log book, but as I only did the odd trial, and the Christmas engine run up with my Dad (RIP). I wasn't overly bothered , however while going through documents after we lost Mum, I found the original Log book in my name , So I sent it off to the DVLA, with covering letter .... Much to my surprise I have had a two month correspondents ping pong, even having to Photograph the frame number , number plate , etc.... But have finally been told its being processed ... Is this now the norm ?

Just to let people know that dvla have changed the v55/5 forms in September they still send out the old ones though! I have had mine rejected just because it's the old form which I only received from them 4 weeks ago. if you print one off online and fill it in identical to the old one it will be fine (dvla told me) so make sure you don't fill out any old ones old ones have the carbon part on the back!

Hi, my Montesa 123 is somewhere around 1972 in age... does anyone know where I can get a certificate of age so that I can get an age related plate. I don't think there is an owners club.

Got a 71 M80 Bultaco Sherpa project on the go. If I want to register it with an age related page I'm thinking I'm best to do it before restoration so that it is clearly original. As it's over 40 years old it should be tax and MOT exempt but can you register the bike without these or do you still need them for first registration? Cheers.

So I would like to road reg my GasGas TXT 250. I have the V55/5 (I think it is) form the DVLA but I think there is more to it than that isn't there? I was wondering if anyone could detail the process and the cost involved, I've read some posts on it but some of those are a good few years old now and I know the Gov love to "update" how things are done for no reason. Thanks

Hi all, Nearly got the old M27 ready for a first firing so starting to think about getting the original reg number back. All I have documents wise is tax discs up to 1980 in tatty condition and the rear number plate with just the outline of the lettering which has long since peeled off. Photo attached. I understand I will need to get an owners club to sign off that the bikes genuine but theres no Bultaco owners club so who do I go to? Anybody got advice on the pitfalls and perils I face? Thanks, Pete

Hi how much of the v55/5 do you have to fill out? Surely you don't have to fill in emissions/co2/noise decibels etc? Many thanks

Going to be getting an MOT for my '61 Tiger Cub. Is a stand required for the MOT? I've checked through the MOT manual and can't see anything that says a stand is a) a part that requires testing, or b ) is required to perform the wheel checks as this can be done through a visual inspection.

Yet to get in to Trials and want to suss out all of the issues before I jump in... one of which is getting to/from the trials location. It so happens that I live just 4 miles from an official trials site and so I'm wondering if getting a road-reg bike with MOT, tax and insurance and riding it to/from is a reasonable option? Had a couple of comments that have diss'ed the idea completely but thought I'd poll a wider audience and see if anyone has done this and how viable it is? Tyres seem to be the main issue, followed by knackering the mechanicals! Obviously, if I get in to competition more seriously and want to travel off to other venues, then I'll need a van/tr…

hi i have a year old bike that i wish to insure, primarily against theft. It is road registered. i have heard that insurance companies are not interested if the bike has no ignition key but they seem to accept my reg number on the forms. Does anyone have any experience of this and any other advice. Is it best to have a policy including road use or not? Can anyone recommend any companies many thanks in advance

In May of this year any vehicle over the age of 40 will no longer require tax or MOT. So how will this change the process of registration for older machines? At the moment for a 1977 Bultaco Sherpa for instance, your require MOT to start the process, will this change?

  16. Will cops now start targeting road trials. Heard reports from a couple of rider's, that a cop just happen to be passing a road trial last month and he decided to pull everyone that came out the farm track on to the road. Did them for small number plates and tyres not for road use. If true, it could be the thin end of the wedge and it may give them the idea to set up outside these trials for easy money. Anyone heard about it or was it just a rumour.

Hi guys, quick query. as the title says really. Have any of you guys insured your Oset, and if so, who with? (UK only). The bikes are currently covered on my contents policy but with the insurance company not actually knowing what an Oset is or how to categorise it, they're not filling me with confidence should i need to claim. Thanks in advance.

After many conversations with DVLA/HMRC it now appears despite what the form says that you do NOT need insurance to register a trials bike for road use. You DO however, need an MOT, proof of purchase/age and when it was imported literature etc. NOW you also need it to be registered with the HMRC on their NOVA database. This cannot be done online and you have to telephone them on 0300 200 3700 for a nova1 form. I'm only putting this on here because the DVLA info is scant. Be warned that phone calls to the HMRC CAN TAKE UP TO 30 MIUTES TO BE PUT THROUGH TO THE RIGHT DEPARTMENT. In my case I borrowed our (Gest Trials Club) Chairman Jim Cottinghams mobile phone to make th…
