Road Legal, MOT, Insurance etc

This has probably been asked before if it has I'm sorry. If I buy a trials bike that is not road registered how do I go about getting it road legal. Is it an easy process. Thanks Ralph.

Who do people use to insure there RR with as every company I’ve tried says the bike isn’t listed, the only model that is listed is the standard 260, thanks

Anyone having much joy with insuring a 300RR? Seem almost impossible to find a company that lists the bigger 288cc motor, the 250 and 260 can be insured no problem. Unfortunately Msm insurance don’t cover my area.

Morning All, Due to my age being 23 when I took my test, and after January 2013 I could do my full bike test but only have a a2 licence meaning I am restricted to 47bhp and no more than a 0.2kw/kg power to weight ratio. so im wondering if any body out there actually noes the BHP of a 2015 sherco 300? its the power to weight im worried about. sherco state it weighs 68kg and 0.2kw equates to 0.268bhp, there for the bike would have to be 18bhp to be legal? could any one in the no please shed some light Many Thanks

Hi all. Just joined the group today, so i am new to the forum. This is my first post, and hopefully I can get an answer to my query. I have reached the stage of giving up my Kawasaki ZXR in favour of something smaller and lighter, and as i owned a Montesa Cota 247, and ran it on the road (about forty years ago ! ) i thought that this would be the way to go. I am in the process of buying a Bultaco sherpa at the moment, with the intention of getting it registered for the road, and entering a couple of road runs . The bike doesn't have a V5 . Hello All - New to the forum. Getting back into trials after a long break. Just about to start a full rebuild of a 1976 Montesa Cota 246 with my 11 year daughter in the hope of dragging her off social media for at least an hour a night! Ideally I would like to road register the bike in the UK. The frame and engine numbers match. I am familiar with how to obtain a v5. Its the Montesa bit that concerns me. I am guessing obtaining paperwork for a 1970s bike will be a challenge. Any guidance would be appreciated. Best wishes Moray

I am considering buying a Suzuki RL250 which has a Whitehawk frame. The bike is not registered. There are no numbers on the frame and I must be able to road register this bike in order to use it on road trials. There must be quite a few Whitehawk framed bikes out there and some must be registered. Can anyone give me a steer on what I need to do.

Hi, does anyone know if the Type Approval Exemption for Trials Bikes still applies. I am trying to road register a 4RT and I I have the certificate of newness. The DVLA guidance notes for registering a vehicle in 2012 (form V355) said: Competition motorcycles are excluded from the EU type approval system (vehicles intended for use in competition, on roads or in off-road conditions) Directive 2002/24/EC Article 1. So its coming up on time to Insure My bikes an after the Montesa 4Ride was a no go with C Nash last summer when I got it [not on there model list I got p****d off needed it sorting fast] I then went with MSM just thinking I would do battle with them next time with the multi policy for My TTr 250/ Harley panHead 1200/ and Honda xr 250 was due as to adding the 4Ride. Has anyone Managed to get anywhere with C Nash on this model.............. they only had a 250cc RT listed not even a 260cc............ when I called last year seems bad as its a Honda really and the 4rides been out as a model for 2 years now I know some Insurance people are not doing Trials bikes anymore but …

I'm assuming this is a may be looked on as a bit of a daft question but is it possible to insure a trials bike against theft when stored? If so have you any recommendations for companies who do it?

Ok, so I know that in the UK you officially need a horn and a motorbike-sized number plate for daytime running on the road, and in France you're ok with an LED front and tail light (brake light too?), and a mini number plate (not sure about horn) ... what about in Spain? What's the minimum equipment for a trials bike to be 100% legal?

Hi all, New to the sport and the site but hoping to have my own bike by mid Jan, so been doing my homework on vans and now looking at insurance for the bike! I'm having issues trying to get quotes to cover the bike as I don't have a bike licence and wasn't planning on getting one either. Can anyone on here that doesn't have a bike licence and has a non registered bike let me know what you do for insurance?
