Road Legal, MOT, Insurance etc

Hello all, Can you all please share how big your number plate is? How is it attached (stuck to mudguard, on a bracket)? Have you had any issues if it's a non legal size? I know how big they should be but its just not that practical. Ideally I just want a sticky one to stick to the rear mudguard but before I made a purchase I thought I would see what you are all using to get an idea. Thanks fellow riders. Chris.

Hi I have a scorpa sy 250 that I am trying to insure for the road.I have recently sold my road bike and wanted to swop the insurance over but the company does not deal with trials bikes or even list the scorpa tried carol nash and they don't list the sy 250 can anybody recommend a good insurance company

part way through road registering my gas gas 280 txt progress: MOT Dating letter Insured on VIN number V55/5 filled in and sent off Came back saying i needed to apply for a NOVA to sort VAT out. did this online ands its telling me i now owe £130 import tax on it. The dating letter tells me it was imported by the offical gas gas importer, surely this would have been done legit and all import duties would be payed at the time???? Well the old girl has been a bit neglected for a while so it's time to give her a bit of attention. I'm gearing up to get the Sherco road worthy. Don't worry, no "what do I need for an MOT?" questions coming up. All I am trying to find out is with the new road fund licence rules, do you still need to display a tax disc on a motorbike? I understand why there is no need for a car due to numberplate recognition via the fancy cameras, just wondered if the same applies to motorbikes? Ta very much, Chris.

Anyone thinking of getting your bike MOT'd ! . hi all, my bike has a number plate on it but i dont have the v5, ive checked online on the dvla site and its confirmed the bike, there site says its a 2002 but the frame number tells me its a 2001 could this be a typo maybe. also does anyone know how i go about getting the v5 for it. tia tony

Hi New to the forum. Just bought a 1974 montesa cota 247. I have no docs, but have tracked down a previous owner who has supplied me with a copy of the original log book. Clearly states number and engine and fame numbers. DVLA say they have no records for the number and are reluctant to let me have it. I gave sent them the copy of the reg document, but they want a club to say that the numbers match. As far as I can find there is no uk Montesa owners club. Any ideas what I should do. Thanks

Hi, Does anybody have any experience of insuring a trials bike for a road trial for just one day? I have the chance to ride my fathers Enfield in a local road trial (in preparation for the Scottish Pre 65 - where there is the option to purchase road top up insurance with your entry fee). The bike is road reg'd and already insured for the road under my dads policy but obviously just for him. I have a full bike license so assume it should be quite possible, but just wondering if anybody has any experience of doing this and if so through which companies? Quick one and maybe a silly question ! Can the 125's be road registered, they don't seem to be any second hand road reg 125 bikes at all for sale. I know these are mainly for youth riders so probably no need to register but im just wondering if you can register them when bought new ? Cheers

I have been building a pre 65 trials bike for some time with a replica frame and I have found for a sale an appropriate frame and V5c of the same brand and year. The seller states that the V5c is in his name and has a non-transferable registration number. How difficult would it be to use this V5c and frame number to register and tax the trials bike? When it means non-transferable does that mean at the end of the process my bike would get the registration number on the V5c or another age related number?

Hi, I just wondered if anyone has seperate insurance for their bike while in transport, i.e on a rack or trailer. I'm pretty sure that my car insurance won't cover it and at the moment I've not been too worried as my bike is only worth sub £1000 but I'm thinking about purchasing something a bit newer and more expensive and would like it covered? i went to register a bike today all the correct documentation etc to hand having done it loads of times.. however.. you cant read about it anywhere on any websites or even on a poster but the process for registering a vehicle has changed significantly.. virtually all local dvla offices are closing in december and all applications will ahve to be done by mail.. in the meantime significant changes have alrady come into effect on 15/04/13. you need to do this for all vehicles built in the uk or not. you must have a dating certificate from the original manufacturer.. if not you must have a letter from the manufacturer stating that they do not have records or did not build…

Can anyone recommend an insurance policy for my kids bikes? The bikes are not road legal or registered and never will be. The kids haven't passed any tests nor do they have a no claims bonus, they're 13 & 8. The bikes won't be going anywhere near a road except on the trailer. We just need them insuring in case of theft from storage. All the policies that I've looked at so far require the bikes to be road registered or SORNed and/or the rider to have a licence.
