Hi I have been buying a beta Rev 3 270 2005 the problem Im having is I'm wanting to put it on the road but here's the catch I bought the bike and the owner of the bike had been using it off road and didn't have a v5 or any reg plate with the bike but he insists that it has been registered by the owner before him so we're do I go from here because to apply for a v5 you need the reg number ( what I have not got ) and I can't re register it because it's supposenly registered . I have searched all over the Internet trying to use my frame number and engine number to get it I've also been to the local police station but nothing ! After many conversations with DVLA/HMRC it now appears despite what the form says that you do NOT need insurance to register a trials bike for road use. You DO however, need an MOT, proof of purchase/age and when it was imported literature etc. NOW you also need it to be registered with the HMRC on their NOVA database. This cannot be done online and you have to telephone them on 0300 200 3700 for a nova1 form. I'm only putting this on here because the DVLA info is scant. Be warned that phone calls to the HMRC CAN TAKE UP TO 30 MIUTES TO BE PUT THROUGH TO THE RIGHT DEPARTMENT. Hi So the problem I have is insuring my bike at a different address to where I am living. The address is my ex-partners. Doodson would only insure mine if his was insured at the same time but now I am registering it they are unwilling to do that. Why are insurers unwilling to insure my bike at a different address? Will this change when it is registered? I don't understand why I can't insure my bike, on my own, without his being done too - insurers don't make sense!! If anyone can enlighten me I would be very greatful!

Hi all, Nearly got the old M27 ready for a first firing so starting to think about getting the original reg number back. All I have documents wise is tax discs up to 1980 in tatty condition and the rear number plate with just the outline of the lettering which has long since peeled off. Photo attached. I understand I will need to get an owners club to sign off that the bikes genuine but theres no Bultaco owners club so who do I go to? Anybody got advice on the pitfalls and perils I face? Hi I have no documentation for my Sherpa just matching frame and engine numbers. Does anyone know how to search the dvla site with just this? I don't know if it has been road registered, it may have. If not I need to do it. Advice gratefully received. Neil

Hi New to the forum. Just bought a 1974 montesa cota 247. I have no docs, but have tracked down a previous owner who has supplied me with a copy of the original log book. Clearly states number and engine and fame numbers. DVLA say they have no records for the number and are reluctant to let me have it. I gave sent them the copy of the reg document, but they want a club to say that the numbers match. As far as I can find there is no uk Montesa owners club. Any ideas what I should do. Thanks

Hi folks I am part way through a process of registering a Yamaha TY175, I've sent in the V62 with fees, and some follow up photos and bike description after an email from DVLA. Four months later.....I've received a V55/5 form from DVLA that is for first tax and vehicle reg (Im guessing they could not find any original number) This form assumes you are a likely a dealer and that you have a certificate of conformity, so Im wondering if anyone out there has gone through this process and obtained a cert of conf? Did they even produce such docs in 1980? I heard I could write to yamaha UK and get information but is it bike specifi or just general for all TY 175…

After reading about another spate of Trials bike thefts, how many people actually insure their bikes? Not talking about roadgoing insurance, but insurance against theft from home/van/trial I forgot to re-insure my 4RT for a week, earlier in April this year (Carole Nash forgot to send the reminder) and in hindsight I could have kicked myself I use Carole Nash for a specific offroad bike policy to cover against theft/fire from home, which includes theft cover whilst travelling to and from a Trial or practise ground whilst in the Van or on a trailer Costs me £128 per year for £3k's worth of cover - cheap 'piece of mind' in my book, less than a pair of Raptor footpegs S…

Does anyone know of an insurer who will insure a bike on the frame number for a short period to register the bike. When it is registered I will be able to put on a classic policy with other bikes but they will not insure on the frame number only. I know C Nash will do it on the frame number but I don't want a 12 month policy with them. Thanks...

I've decided to try and put my rev3 250 on the road - figured I'd use it more and then get better on it! So, she's in for MOT in the morning - fingers crossed!!
