Montesa

  1. Started by kingscorpion,

Following a request that my friend Enrique made to me in the La Maneta forum, I decided to write a small guide to help those who do not know how the amazing “Montesa parts manuals” work, which make life easier for everyone who uses them. Above all, if we understand them as they were conceived in the factory. Even today I am amazed by the mentality of Pedro Permanyer, at a time when we were far from the rising of computer science in our lives. The system can’t be more logical. The first thing we should know is that, from the Impala, all Montesa parts have a unique reference formed by three groups of numbers (and sometimes a fourth group). These groups were separated…

I was going to put the Montesa up for sale because I recently bought a '06 Beta Rev3 250. When getting the Monte ready for sale I discovered a small oil pool on the bike stand, I pulled the skid plate only to find a small hairline crack coming off the top of the 90* corner cast into the case. When I first bought this bike I installed a new chain, spockets, exhaust gaskets, repacked the silencer, new Dunlops, and a new Montesa rubber case cushion, which required straightening of the heavy aftermarket skid plate for clearance. Apparently there was still enought pressure on the case to cause a vibration induced stress crack in the engine case, possibly due to a casting fla…

Hi all, Any news on the 05' mont 4 stroke? Danny

  9. Started by gizza5,

Sandifords web site news article posted 30/9/05 reported the new '06 model would be in the dealers in 3 to 4 weeks, which is 3rd or 4th week in October Now it is 1st week in November and still no news. Anyone got any gossip they want to tell me, as my bike for part ex has been prepped to hand to the dealer for 2 weeks now, and still no news I am a patient person, but I know of people who have ordered from dealers and are already fed up of waiting, having sold their old bikes. JL, JS and NB could be reeping the benefits for anyone anxious enough to get their hands on a 2006 model. So spill the beans if you've heard owt

  10. Started by sir dabs alot,

Just picked up an '06 4RT with low hours and just wondered if there are any issues or setup advise anyone would like to offer up? I noticed while tinkering with it that the rebound knob on the top of the right fork leg seems 'stuck', it will not turn. Any ideas on what's going on and more importantly, how to fix the probelem? Thanks!!

  11. Started by ymirtrials,

I've just gotten a new to me 2010 4rt and I just been noticing the front rotor has more play on the bushings that what I think is normal. With the bike on a stand with the caliper off, if I spin the wheel slowly the rotor actually makes noise as it shifts position on the bushings as it is rotating. I'm even starting to notice some noise as I'm riding. This is only my second 'modern' trials bike to I don't have a huge wealth of experience but this seems like the bushings must be worn out? Anyone seen this before? When I have a minute I'll take the rotor off to see if that sheds any light on the issue but figured I'd see if this was a normal wear issue. Thanks

I recently bought a Cota 350 from the US, it has some features that I cannot find on any pictures from google or any where else for that matter. Some of these features are plain alloy coloured brake drums whilst the rest of the hub is black, "U" bolt handle bar clamps and front mudguard bracket from what appears to be from the later 330, also triple clamps are different to brochure shots. Frame & engine number are 51M26641, so it's possible it started to share some bits from the upcoming 330, but don't know for sure. I'm just interested in how it should look if I ever do a full resto, at this point I'm simply doing a good tidy up. I'll attach a couple of photos of how…

I bought a Cota 350 from the US about a year ago, it appears to be quite original other than things like mudguards. I'm about to strip the frame in readiness for sandblasting but am curious what these stickers on the head-stock refer to and are they significant and whether I should try and preserve them. Might be something that only US people can answer? Pics attached.

Anybody know what size the taper bearing used in the '98 315? I'm sure they should be a fairly standard one but not been able to find it. 'Official' bearings seem very expensive

  16. Started by correcaminos,

Hey Guys, After sitting for a while, my '98 Montesa Cota 315R won't start. I suspect the float valve is stuck as fuel doesn't flow into the bowl. I've got the carb off the bike, and I removed the large bolt (with jet) at the bottom of the bowl but the bowl is still stuck to the carb itself. I don't see any other bolts or screws that would hold it in place but, since I'm not familiar with the DellOrto PHBH26cs, I might be missing something. I suspect the gasket has turned to mush and is holding the bowl in place. Before I go applying pressure, I'd like to confirm that there's nothing else holding the bowl in place. So, can anyone confirm that I should be able to remove t…

Hi Guys I have a 99 315 with the standard Grimeca brake setup and I have searched the internet to find replacement seals for the caliper. I can buy a complete new MC from ebay for a reasonable price but with no caliper for it to operate there seems little point. I have tried searching past posts but a lot of the info is outdated so I am looking for the comprehensive guide to maintaining/upgrading my brakes. Questions are: Is it still possible to find seal kits for the caliper? If not which caliper will be the best bolt on replacement? If I do have to fit a new caliper which MC will I need to go with it? I am not looking for ultimate braking performance and don't n…

  18. Hi good people! I've had my bike for a while, but now it has been sitting for over a year (school abroad). It's a '99 Cota 315R with a lot of 2004 (or so) upgrades. When I parked it, it had some minor issues with the clutch, but now it's straight useless. It doesn't disconnect at all, when you put it in 1st with the clutch engaged it literally takes off. I tried bleeding with no luck. Secondly, there seem to be a fair amount of oil seeping from the underside of my engine. How should I go about to take care of this, do I have to split the whole engine and change the gasket? At the risk of sounding like a complete n00b, would this be motor or gear oil? Or do they share o…
