Hi, I have just got my first twin shock trials bike and intend to do a full restoration on it.....I fact I have already stripped it down ready to get the frame painted. No doubt I will have many questions as I start to put it back together, but I just have one quick one at the moment. Could somebody tell me what colour the upper engine support bars are supposed to be. Are they polished or painted silver? Apologies if that is not the correct name for them, but they are the bars that go across the engine at approx 45 degrees. At the moment mine are black but I know that is incorrect. Many thanks.

Well It's time for my first oil/filter change on my 06 monty4rt and I was looking for some tips on the filter change with the gasket and all,as I'm used to my Ktms and it's a little different ballgame.I'm sure it's a piece of cake, however any tips suggestions before I get into it would be great,as I don't want to jack up that case gasket or anything else. Thanks in advance HDD

It's time for me to change the oil in my 4RT for the first time (okay, it's overdue). I was hoping to be able to get to the oil filter without removing the skid plate (gee, I expect so much), but that appears to be impossible. The last time I pulled a skid plate off a trials bike was on my Aprilia TXR312M. Getting it back on was a mission so close to impossible that I had to call in Tom Cruise. He brought lots of vice grips and various other tools. I got it back on, but it was not a pleasure. So, if I pull the skid plate on my '07 4RT, how easy will it be to reinstall?

Sandifords web site news article posted 30/9/05 reported the new '06 model would be in the dealers in 3 to 4 weeks, which is 3rd or 4th week in October Now it is 1st week in November and still no news. Anyone got any gossip they want to tell me, as my bike for part ex has been prepped to hand to the dealer for 2 weeks now, and still no news I am a patient person, but I know of people who have ordered from dealers and are already fed up of waiting, having sold their old bikes. JL, JS and NB could be reeping the benefits for anyone anxious enough to get their hands on a 2006 model. So spill the beans if you've heard owt

I've had a Montesa 1998 315R for many years and I'm keen to get a new bike. Quite attached to Montesa for some reason .... but not sure if a brand new 2008 4RT is worth the money. Would a good condition 2005/6/7 be a better bet ? Anything specifically a problem on 2005-2007 models that has been sorted on the 2008 model ? My fellow riders do quite rightly point out that I could buy a 2008 Gas Gas 2T for about 2/3 of the price of a montesa 4RT. Should I block my ears and make childish noises :-) or are they making sense ? Any useful input to help decision making will be much appreciated.

So Toni Bou, not unexpectedly, won the 2007 Outdoor WTC to match his indoor title. Laia Sanz won the Women's 2007 European title and should surely gain another world title. Dani Gilbert won the 2007 European Championship and Montesa sealed its second consecutive manufacturers award. These 4 strokes will never catch on.

Just bought an IRIS 520 gold chain for my 4RT, fitted it this morning and have found that the rivets are snagging on the chain guard and the tensioner rubber. I haven't ridden the bike yet, but I would imagine I'll be ending up needing a new guard and tensioner rubber pretty soon with this situation. I'm not particularly happy about this, as obviously it's not a problem with the original chain. Should I be returning the chain and asking for one that doesn't do this, am I entitled to do this, even though i have fitted it to my bike (not used) Do any other makes of chain do the same thing ? What seems strange to me, is that IRIS sponsor the Montesa Team, so you would ha…

On the way to today's trial when I heard this on the radio. John Wayne,William Shatner and Neil Armstrong were all Montesa owners! I've been around a while but never heard anything like this. Certainly interesting if it is the case. Is it a giant leap for mankind or should Scotty just been me up?

A few months ago I broke the switch for my twin-map throttle body, so I took the opportunity to make a switch like the one on http://montesa4rt.nl. I fitted it for a trial today, but I couldn't tell the difference from one map to the other in the same way I thought I could before. I know that the switch is working ok. Is there a way to tell what map is selected on the throttle body?

Hello all I'm thinking about changing my bike and going 4 stroke and having ridden both Beta and Mont I've decided that I want to treat myself and buy the Mont, my only concern is that Pidcocks have given up being the importer, so does this mean sales have dropped to such an extent it is no longer viable being the importer? Before I part with my cash anyone have any idea what the future holds for Montesa or do you think Honda will pull out? Many thanks in advance.

I am new to the Montesa Forum but have posted on the Bultaco Section often. I picked up a Cota 348 bike for $300 (in hindsight too much) and the previous owner told me that it just needed a new kickstart spring. I love the rush of a new project and the hopes of turning it in to something great. But....it turns out that it has a few more issues than just a spring. The kickstart shaft is broken off and the drive gear on the clutch side is welded in place. As well there is something wrong with the shifter side because I found JB weld Epoxy inside the case. What are the chances of finding the required parts at a reasonable cost??? Seems to be fewer sources for Montes…

I am thinking of revisiting this model, I would use it in trials at a low club level, Now they are so old what's the reality of obtaining parts, gaskets engine parts, gearbox parts etc in the event of a 23 yr old part giving up? Is it scouring the net looking for a used part or certain items being unobtainable... Advise please

I would like to replace my footpegs and peg brackets as my stock pegs feel a bit narrow and are worn such that they droop a bit (I think this is, in part, due to the brackets). I saw the Raptor Ti brackets and they look very nice, but I am not sure I want to part with $200 for them. OEM brackets are $82 (for both), but seem less than beautifully crafted. Any options that are better than oem but less costly than the raptors? For pegs, does anyone make a rockered peg like the White Brothers and Sunline Arch MX pegs (center spikes are raised higher than the front/rear which, I find, makes moving fore-aft on the bike easier, particularly when operating the rear brake) for …

Second year at Hawkstone and it was mint. But again this year the team 4RT's are deffinatly running more than just 'super unleaded' in the tank ! Does anyone know what it actually is ? . Smells like the stuff you would use on model petrol engines or something ... or is it a mix of that and normal fuel ??. If it is some sort of high octane fuel then would this shorten the life of the engine components ?, has anyone used it and what is the differance in the power charactristics ? It's a real 'petrol head' subject this one (pardon the pun, couldnt resist) Hard luck to Doug, I thought he put in a good ride on the sections that I was lucky enough to see him on... he did…

Im restoring my Mont mh123 and I would like to go down the chrome frame route. I know the frame should be painted 'saint germain red' but I fancy chrome. I had considered powder coating but I've had mixed results from this in the past and fancy something different. I Know nothing about metal treatments. I've just had a quote for £800 from Ashford chroming to do my frame and swing arm. This involved sandblasting, chroming and polishing. I'm sure the finished article would have looked amzing but this is way beyond my budget. Are there any metal treatments out there which will give a nice chrome or silver finish without the expense ? Also does anybody know any compani…
