Montesa

Hi. Looking at an MH200 for restoration. It has the fibreglass tank and I was wondering if it would be prone to damage from modern fuels. I can't see any sign of leaking or damage. Is it possible that by this time they would have used an epoxy resin that would not be affected by the ethanol or is it likely that this tank will need to be lined for ethanol protection. Cheers

Hello everyone, when I shift the bike into gear and pull the clutch at the handle bars it seems like there is still some resistance and not rolling as if it was in neutral. What could this be? Thanks! Adrien

I am hoping to have fix my 349 fork leg welded up but on dis-assembly to do a refresh I find there is a small part that fits into the bottom of the spring. In profile it is sort of top hat shaped. One of these is intact and the other is broken. Does anyone have the slightest idea what I'm on about and if so where I can fine replacements? Cheers.

Hi all, Just wondered if anyone can help me with some basic maintenance info for this bike. I'd like to know, how much fork oil is recommended. How much transmission oil. AND, some friends here reckon you MUST use spark plug BR6ES?? That plug is hard to get here, do you reckon a BP6ES would be OK?? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi all, is there anybody that provides an alloy tank for the Cota 21M that will sit under the original tank / seat unit with the old tank base cut away? Or can anyone suggest a company that might make one.

I am digging into my bikes first valve adjustment and have a question that those of you who have done it before may be able to answer. Firstly, everything is relatively straight forward, and relatively easy to access. The question comes from trying to find TDC. When I align the T with the hole in the cases the rockers do not move freely, if I rotate it another 360 degrees I still cannot move them. I have tried to slide a feeler gauge in at both positions assuming one of them is TDC, but it is really tight. Is it possible that my valves are so tight that I cannot get a feeler gauge in an TDC? Other than being able to freely move the rocker arms can I verify that I am at TD…

Just bought an IRIS 520 gold chain for my 4RT, fitted it this morning and have found that the rivets are snagging on the chain guard and the tensioner rubber. I haven't ridden the bike yet, but I would imagine I'll be ending up needing a new guard and tensioner rubber pretty soon with this situation. I'm not particularly happy about this, as obviously it's not a problem with the original chain. Should I be returning the chain and asking for one that doesn't do this, am I entitled to do this, even though i have fitted it to my bike (not used) Do any other makes of chain do the same thing ? What seems strange to me, is that IRIS sponsor the Montesa Team, so you would ha…

  16. My brother and I went and had some fun. It's a great bike, so capable considering it's age and how slippy and muddy it was! It was our first day ridding trials, I've done green laning but never anything like this. I hope you enjoy the video. Cheers, and thanks for all the help on this forum realising the actuality of enjoying this bike, from purchase advice to troubleshooting problems I've had. Ciao

Hi all, just joined the forum after buying a semi restored 200 Cota. Would appreciate any advice on the common faults etc. Main issue been starting, due to kickstart not returning or connecting without pulling by hand to a point to kick over. Good compression and spark, good fuel etc??? Any help appreciated. Thanks, Mark.

So.. I ordered a 'Montesa' rotor puller from Sammy Miller, which is (by my measurement) 30mm. However, my 348 has had a number of upgrades over its life, including a Motoplat Mini 6 Electronic ignition.. which I'll be posting off to Bradford Ignitions as soon as I can get the rotor off.. The crank end makes measurement in-situ with calipers tricky, but I make the internal thread size about 26mm, so I guess my question is: Did / do any Motoplat Electronic rotors come with puller thread sizes close to (either side) of 26mm? In other words, am I safe buying a generic 26 x 1.5mm puller- or could my mystery rotor possibly be 25mm- or 27mm, etc..? Duncan

Hi. I have recently brought a 2008 Montesa 4RT, which I absolutely love & is a bike that will have a very easy time & one that I will keep for the rest of my life. I know this is a bit of a long shot, but I am trying to find out a little bit of the the bikes past history. I believe Barry Riley in the Yorkshire area used to own it & I would be very grateful if Barry or anyone who knows him could contact me via PM or on 07767 431894 to help me gather a bit of background. Many thanks Alan
