Hi! First post. I have just bought a 2014 4RT Repsol after 30+ years away from trials. The kill switch on the bike did not work and I decided to fit a Apico lanyard type. When I disconected the old switch I have two wires from the bike under the tank, a green wire and a black with white tracer wire. The new Apico switch has a brown (with a round eyelet) wire and a black (with bullit end) wire. I connected green to brown and black/white to black. The bike starts ok but the magnetic kill does not work and the bike continues to run. Any clues please? many thanks.

Could anybody point me in the right direction to get a copy of a manual for my 1977 Cota 247. I have had my bike a very long time but never got round until now to try and get a manual for it, I must be getting old wanting to know the right way to do things rather than trying to work it out for myself

http://www.superbikenews.co.uk/insidebikes/honda-switches-montesa-franchise/ So If they're not building the bikes in Spain anymore, then why bother with the Montesa name? I personally think the bike reputation would not suffer from a name change to HONDA, with the added kudos of HRC, the most respected successful bike manufacture in the world. Infact, sales could improve, I really don't see the point in selling a Honda RTL in Japan and a Montesa elsewhere. Just use Honda, new name, new better bike and the world champion riding it. It's not like Honda are new to this sport, with no history or success. Toni has just signed a 2 year contract, could it be the final 2 years …

After 5 months or so & more miles than most 4rt's will do in 2 years my bike wouldn't start tonight. With a long days course sorting for our 3 day ahead tomorrow I was less than happy. After much kicking & cursing I decided to change the plug, it had been in since Easter & with an SSDT under it's belt I thought a new one would do the trick. More kicking & cursing the sodding thing still wouldn't start. I decided to walk away at this point, after 10 minutes I went back into the garage to get my manual for a read up on it & thought B*****ks to it I'll have another go, it fired up 3rd kick. Why the hell wouldn't it start the first time? Both plugs were …

I finished the rebuild on my 247 a few months ago, dropped a bit of fuel in it and rode it around the back yard then put it away in the shop with a view to sell it. I figured one ride at my 74 years was enough for this old body. A friend wanted to have a look at it (the bike, not the old body) and to my dismay the paint on the fuel tank had bubbled in several places. I had sealed and refinished the tank, so expected it would be good. This bike had been worked hard, then sat out in the weather for 30 odd years before I got it and apparently our Australian sunshine didn't do the fiberglass any favors. After inspecting as much as I could I decided the only way to f…

I gather than the Montesa uses a standard clutch setup with coil springs rather than a bellville type arrangement ala GG/TRS/etc. Is there any adjustability available to change clutch pull effort, similar to the Beta where you can flip the spring retainers, or would I need to start pulling springs? Just curious... I don't have one, and I've only ridden one briefly, so no idea if I'd need to do any of this, but generally I need a soft pull due some hand problems.

I have recently (last week) bought a Montesa Cota 348 Malcolm Rathmell Replica. It is alleged to be of 1976 vintage. The frame and engine numbers are matching 51M 1*** yes there are only four numbers after the 51M which denotes a 348. This bike has not been registered for the road. I trolled about on the infernal web but can only find production numbers and type reference designations, but no actual year data. I am assuming that my 348 is one of the first for 1976, any help would be greatly appreciated. I have visited ToDoTrial but no success there, I have not bothered In Motion for info yet hoping some one here can help.

Hi 4rt owners, I'm just about to pick up my new 4rt standard this week, my first brand new bike for years , and have been looking at various carbon/ ABS covers to protect it from new. how do you guys rate these products, and what would you say are a must have ! Does whats on the market at the moment fit the 2016 model, will 2015 parts fit. I was looking at the thicker bashplate from H&D, it must be stronger, but is it wider to protect the casings and waterpump. Thanks.

If i ride in a trial (hang around in sections waiting to go) and the bike gets "hot" i ALWAYS struggle to get the bike in neutral. The symtoms are - i ride to the next section. i switch the bike off in gear and leave it againt a tree to walk the section (it needs to be in gear so it doesnt run off ). I come back to the bike. I try and get it in neutral. It will kind of get there - but jump back in gear if i roll the bike forward a foot. I try again. I cant get it in - so resort to trying to start in gear which usually takes a good few minutes of bashing on the gear lever. I noticed on someone elses 4RT that it was difficult as well so assumed its a case of "they al…

Hi everyone, I've now got my Monty all built up and the engine is sweet, the only issue now is the clutch seams to drag and the bite is a little snatchy and unpredictable, I've adjusted the lever, it's running on ATF, What I did notice when I rebuilt the engine one of the steel plates had some discolouration as if it had been hot? Has anyone got any known fixes for these clutches? Do monty clutches feel as nice as my beta clutch? Thanks in advance
